I think mcveigh is straight back in provided injury is not healed too late

Smith seems to have some mysterious injuries I thought he was poor last year but he isn’t that old is he?

Grundy I could see one last game least likely to play next year

I think we saw jacks last game

Grundy won’t play on next year imo

Macca with a quad could really struggle to get back this year

Is Smith contracted next year?

Jack body language (presser last week) imo seems that his body can’t take it
Smith not contracted. None of them are.
Grundy will play multiple, McVeigh will too if he can get over his injury. Smith too slow and Jack has played his last you would think.

This is just my opinion.

If Smith is fit, he will play again. His numbers were very good leading up to that injury against the Dees late last year.
We are too quick to end their careers. If fit, Smooch walks straight into our team as there is NO ONE with his defensive discipline to do his role. Yeah next year is tricky though but as a contracted player this year he gets a game if fit every day of the week.
IMO only of course.

The reserves have a match.

Yeah well it’s lead by Kennedys ghost (he’s been improved of late and still solid)

I think we have more 2014 grand final 22 left than the hawks have of theirs? Could be wrong

We have held onto some too long

Brutal honesty- jack Grundy McVeigh (though been good) smith shouldn’t still be on afl lists

Kennedy should be 3rd or 4th mid by now

Usually I agree with most of your posts and agree with majority of this one.

But if McVeigh wasn't injured he would be in every teams best 22. Still provides quality disposal, has football smarts, gives great leadership and most importantly is versatile.

Sydney are really missing his presence right now.

I think the AFL and fans in general put way too much of an emphasis on age in some circumstances (A rebuilding team would still use a player like McVeigh for on-field leadership and guidance (Look at the impact Hodge has had at Brisbane)).

Tbh, I'm thankful the decision to play these older guys has been taken out of Longmire's hands. I think he'd still be playing them all if given the opportunity, and I'd rather we give the younger guys the chance to grow in their spots.

Exactly. It’s laughable that we’re now half way into McVeigh’s expected absence and yet COR/Stoddart haven’t played a single game in that time. It’s like Horse isn’t even thinking about the future because he still sees McVeigh as such an integral part of this club’s direction when in reality he’s an injury-prone veteran in his last season.

If jones asks to leave..straight swap for petracca would be ideal

Yaah I don't think Melbourne are accepting that, no matter how bad Petracca's form is this year.

Don't think Petracca is being traded full stop actually.

Your point?
Getting fit includes playing reserve grade footy Mick.
Nick Smith plays a role no other player can at our club so once fit, match day fit, he walks straight in ahead of anyone else.
Same should go for Menzel.
If it's good for Adam Goodes............................

Don’t disagree, McVeigh has been sensational, I guess I meant more ruthlessly building a list you probably are more likely to have pensioned him off by now, he has been fine though and deserved a spot

Is it out of his hands?

Why, because he is 31 or because he can't defend small forwards better than any other player in our team anymore?

I didn’t realise he was 31, because he looks the same as he always did

Ah we'll be sad when he & Reg are done.
They just don't get the recognition as 10 game players at Collingwood or Richmond do for example who are already AFL legends.

We all know what he's been for us at least. I'm still hoping he has a few games in him this season no matter what happens after that.

No doubt he probably can. But do we instead ask ourselves “will Nick Smith be a part of the next Swans premiership team”? If the answer is no, and that’s quite likely, then perhaps we are better off putting in time to other players who are more likely to be a part of the next tilt.

Nick smith is easily the most forgettable great swans player ever
Sometimes doing a best 22 over the years you can get to the end and realise you didn’t pick him, been a great player

This is the thing though Masey.
I don't know any other player that could do this role. COR?
Having said that, if the game has evolving into less defence & more attacking play, then you are right, we must move on with the new 'loose' defender who coughs up a few goals but gets back some with attacking play from the backline, something Smooch will never do.

Smith was a liability last year. Worse, his inability to kick the ball was intrinsic to our inability to clear D50.

Even if you are ruthlessly rebuilding a list you don't want to go and trade out all of your leaders at once, you need players who can provide on-field guidance to the next generation.
