Your point?
Getting fit includes playing reserve grade footy Mick.
Nick Smith plays a role no other player can at our club so once fit, match day fit, he walks straight in ahead of anyone else.
Same should go for Menzel.
If it's good for Adam Goodes............................
Daniel Menzel plays a role nobody at this footy club plays, he kicks goals. If you say it’s good for Menzel to play NEAFL, it’s damn well good for slow ol’ Nick to play there too!

So why are you posting that?
I actually think total fitness comes from playing games, reserves games, always have.

Smith was a liability last year. Worse, his inability to kick the ball was intrinsic to our inability to clear D50.
He wasn’t a liability, that’s a bit unfair. His speed was definitely being found out and his kicking was probably as backward as our defensive thinking.

Good for you, I’ve always thought that fitness comes from training primarily and playing secondary. You put more time into training than you do on the park against opposition and the medical people will tell you, no matter what the activity, the level (grade) is irrelevant. It’s exercise!

Your argument is like saying all AFL footballers are fitter than WAFL, VFL or SANFL footballers? Is that true? No it is not, just like the country footballer up the street could be fitter than Mr AFL!

Even if you are ruthlessly rebuilding a list you don't want to go and trade out all of your leaders at once, you need players who can provide on-field guidance to the next generation.

Fair point

This is the thing though Masey.
I don't know any other player that could do this role. COR?
Having said that, if the game has evolving into less defence & more attacking play, then you are right, we must move on with the new 'loose' defender who coughs up a few goals but gets back some with attacking play from the backline, something Smooch will never do.

I’ve always wondered what Fox might be like in that role, agree though we don’t have really any back pocket lock down types in the wings.

Probably right. However his disposal limitations fed the chipper. Wonderful player who got the last ounce of ability from himself. Got caught out last year and do not want to see him towelled up this year.

I agree!

Who of the following plays another game for Sydney (bar maybe a farewell)

Grundy
Smith
Mcveigh
Jack
If McVeigh gets back he will, though I doubt he plays on next season. The other 3 are done.

Amazed how we literally don’t have 1 A grade mid atm

No doubt in my mind the club overrated the list then and now

You would seriously have to say at this moment it’s the worst mid group in the comp
Kennedy is still A Grade, I can’t see how he’s not afforded that tbh. He’s closer to A- to A+ but the guy is still flipping good. He literally carries our midfield without a shadow of a doubt!
