Especially when the reports are Demons will take a third/fourth round pick just to get rid of him. Could see Magpies picking him up, will fit in well. Maynard and May DH1 and DH2
That would make the King's Birthday match rather interesting - would love to see Gawn kick the winning goal after taking a mark in front of May

Don't forget that when Higgins made the move down the highway that North was still paying a good portion of his contract as that helped them with the salary floor payment requirements

North don't have a first round pick this year & doubtful they'd be stupid enough to trade out of the first round 2 drafts in a row - they could will appreciate a first round pick this year, even one in the mid teens if helps with flexibility for future trades

With teams having to pay a minimum 95% of the salary each season, it may be helpful to them to keep some of that money on their books at least for a small period while they don't necessarily have too many big contracts on their list

The salary cap this year is $17.7 million with the salary floor approx $16.8 million. Next years cap is $18.293 million, with a floor of approx $17.37 million

Looking at the increase in the salary & floor, North paying say $500k of Simpkin's salary next year would be covered totally within that floor increase, and still more of a gap to fill to meet the floor
I don't think thats completely accurate.
I thought they changed all of those rules?

You have to average 95% over a number of years.
i.e. you could pay 90% this year but you're going to have to pay 105% next year to meet the average.

Thats a bit harsh on Tim Darcy and Bluey McGrath.

OK, its a bit harsh on Bluey McGrath.

OK, its not that harsh.
McGrath was very good, but he only joined us in 1992.

IMO, he and Stephen O'Reilly were the game changers. Unfortunately, by the time they came together, Brownless, Bairstow, Hinkley, S Hocking, Stoneham and Couchy were all past their best.

Tim Darcy wasn't a bad player, just way too small. Kind of like making Jack Henry match up on Ben King in the old fashioned one-on-one era.

If Flanders is in play for the Saints you can bet whatever they get for Marshall would be part of it.

They are talking tough because they don't want to lose any leeway they have being that Rowan is contracted.
I reckon just quietly they'd be happy to let him go for our first and change if it means bringing in Flanders, Ryan and Aleer.

With Geelong, players are always told to wait till our season finishes before requesting a trade to us as to not provide a distraction.
... except Lachie Henderson ;)

With the court case on today, there is some interesting info on that. Hard to say how it will go, however, with possible extortion needing to be tested in court, this could get ugly for everyone.

I don't want to go all heavy duty dark blue tracksuit boss here, but just ask we be mindful with discussion in regards to the above - happy to talk about the players spot on the list but beyond that I'd recommend we leave discussion in the thread linked below

With things continuing tomorrow I know there's temptation to get into discussion around things, but there's still a suppression order in place (as confirmed today)

I'm trusting we're all able to be about this situation and the instructions we're receiving regarding how far discussion can go on general threads

The way O Henry is underrated on here is astonishing that's all I'll say. Cannot imagine the club is stupid enough to entertain a trade for him.
To be fair he is…..selfish, too slow to give off…. Doesnt fly for it when he should… he’s not really a Geelong type of player, would give anything to have Rohan back, chased and actually flew for the ball when he should!

Only shocking was past it by 1992 from that group. Bews and bourke were also past it.

I have some thoughts on that but I'll leave it until after suppression orders are lifted (if they get lifted).
Yep...

Anyway …and we back from the commercial for yet another rubbish newspaper.

Youve got your dial tuned to interpetyourownmeaning. FM. The station that plays them and then you can make them mean what ever the hell you think they mean. Later today we will play Revolution9 from the Beatles and Richard Harris singing Macarthur Park.. and that puts different vibe on him playing dumbledore but now...

…. heres one for all those that feels like they are sick of a restrictive life style ..…. Apparently David Byrne, the songwriter, used the phrase as a metaphor for breaking free from constraints and destroying something that had become a safe but entrapping environment…. but who knows .maybe some one was ripping up the dance floor… ..make of it what you will … So heres Talking Heads and BDTH ...

Has King already left coaching at Geelong or does he stay until our finals campaign is over? Kinda seems weird if he's still there, he's the enemy now and learning how we do things in finals. If he's left, that's not ideal to lose a coach during a finals campaign

He's staying until our season is over

Seems I'm the only one that rates Simpkin that's a non North supporter
I think he’s a solid player. Not sure he’s the player we need though.

Not for a million a year he isnt

If North was willing to pay a good portion (half) of his remaining salary to help them meet the salary floor, while then opening up a list spot for him, would it make him more enticing?

Is he though?

He's kicked 92 goals in 60 games for us, which is not a bad return. Not spectacular, but pretty good especially at his age.

The problem is that's all he brings at the moment. Outside of a goal and a half a game, he's a liability. There's nothing wrong with hangers and flashy goals, but they should be the cherry on top of the meat & potatoes of hard running, assists, tackling, forward pressure. With him right now, it's the other way around. He's all sizzle and not nearly enough steak.

(Sorry for the repeated food analogies!)

Why on earth would we resign Knevitt. He should be playing country footy. Waste of a list spot
I think he could still be something.

I think his main issues are strength and confidence. For mine he needs to chain himself to the weights room over summer and put on at least 5kgs of pure muscle, and then hit Round 1 with some real positive energy. If he can get a couple of good AFL games under his belt early next season then I wouldn't be surprised to see him thrive.
