I know tackles aren’t the be-all and end-all of being ‘defensive’ but Murph had equal most tackles with Young and Serong according to those stats above, so it’s not like he’s just running around just pulling stuff out of his arse. Although when he does, it comes off most times. Don’t stifle the kid FFS

What would you like him to say? “He’s the best user of the ball forward of centre I’ve seen he blows me away and has taken the piss all summer” come on man. the conversations he has with Murphy would be polar opposites to the one he had in a 8 minute presser

But to actively say in a presser that (not verbatim but read between the lines) he needs to tone things down is quite bizarre imo. Better to say not much at all than something that comes across as trying to curb your emerging star’s natural game.

In the context it's pretty clear he's talking about preparation more than ability. There's a chance he doesn't start the year in the team, but barring an epic fall off I'd be shocked if he doesn't end the year in it.

Banners does everything to the letter of the law. If there are flags to swim between one thing is as guaranteed as the sun rising and that is Banners swimming between the flags. That and some Pearls for JL’s wife.

Will Brodie definitely like some of those overseas tourists on Bondi Rescue never swam between the flags.

Reading what people have said this afternoon about longmuir in his presser I thought I’d go and have a look. His whole press conference was nothing but positive about a lot of players and was refreshingly honest. In regards to Reid. He started off saying how he just sees the game quicker than others then mentioned still has to remember defense which he’s been working on. Then the flags comment and then mentioned all the forwards lick their lips when he has the ball. Full context counts. Personally like his comments on walker. Doing a patella then his shoulder the last 2 years Is pretty harsh. He’s still so young. Really looking forward to coming up against Adelaide

Yeah but why apply commonsense when you overreact over literally nothing.

It's obvious why Ryan didn't play and it's obvious he'll walk back in when ready.

Feel like JL could cure cancer and people here would still bitch about it and I'm not even his biggest fan

My biggest takeaway from today was most of our players want to get the ball in Reid’s hands as much as possible, if anything, JL’s comments are as much to distract/disguise from oppo scouts that our new game plan revolves around Reid and Young as anything else, some people just cheery pick to re-enforce their biases.
Speaking of confirmation bias, my other two take aways were: Johnson is better than Ras and Walker is better than Worner. This has been my belief for some time, didn’t want to mention it, but it seems to be the consensus after today’s game.

Maybe that's JL's way of not letting everything get to his head, but without context i.e. seeing how he said it the optics aren't great

I do think JL needs some media training. His public messaging is so poor, even though we had no idea what’s being said inside the 4 walls, he comes across so dour, conservative and boring on the outside.
