Give it time.

History says that there about 4-5 PCL ruck injuries per season previously. I'd expect that to rise to 5-6 this year, given the number of rounds added since the rule was last in place.
How many with the previous ruck rules?

Why can’t Thorpie chop out and we add an extra runner ?

He can, but it's just wasting what Thilthorpe potentially offers us. Ultimately, you do not want your best players in what is effectively a role player kind of set up where they're getting moved around to give others a breather.

That result is worse then ROB being stuck on the bench and only managing 50% TOG. Noting we'll use ROB more than Murray due to trust.

How many with the previous ruck rules?
Pretty much none. PCL ruck injuries were eliminated almost overnight, as soon as the AFL introduced rules which prevented knee-on-knee clashes as players jumped into each other.

.... Now they've changed them back, and it's only a matter of time until the first ruck PCL injury.

Hilarious that we saw our best ruck performance in probably a decade, and we still completely clogged up the Changes thread with how we plan to fix our ruck situation.

I think the point is if Murray doesnt get up then we have to have someone relieve Stretch when he needs a break.

People are paranoid he's going to get hurt jumping in the ruck.

I get it, but IMO if Turray is only a week out then its a risk worth taking.
Just tell Thilthorpe not to jump at the centre square & rove the ball if we are worried

What would be the point of that? You might as well just have another midfielder in the square, and no ruck, if you're not going to jump at the ball.

FWIW, this is NOT a course of action I would recommend. I seem to recall Essendon doing it in the past, and it didn't go well for them. The absence of a ruckman meant that the opposition ruck was able to provide his team's midfielders with silver service, despite being outnumbered 3-4 at the fall of the ball.

The difference with Thilthorpe is he can still compete with his height by not jumping & still have the ability for the ground ball.

And... no!

Even at Thilthorpe's height, he's not able to compete with a leaping ruckman like English if he's not jumping himself.

Effectively, you're conceding the ruck contest and playing him as a 4th centre square midfielder. History has shown that this approach almost never works. The ability of the opposition's ruckman to direct the ball unopposed far outweighs the advantage of a 4-3 outnumber when the ball hits the ground. Expecting the mids to shark an unopposed ruckman is a fool's errand.

As I said before - this tactic has been tried in the past, rarely with even minimal degrees of success.

Maybe there can be a truce with beverage and Darcy with nicks and TT

I reckon I have been one of the biggest advocate for Thilthy to Ruck.

But, now seeing him add som kg to his bidy this off season and not lose agility he needs to be in the F50 every centre break.

And MacAndrews ability is a game changer.

Yeah, he was good as a mid. But that should end with Rankine back.

Our advantage in winning centre break, which it seems we can do now, is getting the ball into Thilthy. Where he is almost impossible to beat one(and two) on one.

He should always be our primary target from a centre break.

If we need a Ruck chop out, with Turray out, it needs to be someine else. But not RoB.

Send Butts in lol

And leave Darcy with a really undersized defender....ummm no.

Butts wii be seriously challenged just supressing Darcy's influence.

Just on the risk of Thilthy being injured in Ruck..... every injury he has had has been playing forward.

He is going to cop it physically every marking cintest. Including knees and elbows in back.

Yeah the dumb Ruck rule can cause more knee on knee issues, but you cant play and position players in fear of injury.

Negative mindset.

None of which really involves front on contact knee to knee!!

There was a "lol" after that sugestion. If Turray cant play its a tough spot to fill.

Just win centre break, problem solved.

Yeah Darcy gonna be tough.

A shootout between RT and Darcy will be entertaining. As long as we win.

The point is, he risks injury every contest. He will be physically targeted. And you cant position players based on potential injury. Its negative thinking.

I dont think he should Ruck though, especially if we are winning centre breaks. A quick centre break creates the least congested f50. Which he should dominate.

He’s said it about other teams aswell.

I assume you expect him to mention every team every week.

If Kane wasn’t a ex port player people might actually take note of what he says.

I don't expect him to mention it about every team, but it's more the way he obsessively keeps bringing it up about Adelaide even after a really impressive win that you know is agenda driven.

I just think he's a flog who has history of petty grudges and letting his emotions get in the way of providing a balanced view of things.

He’s been on it for 5 years and I guess the finals result is a tick for his theory.
Even a percentage of people on here want us to go back to a 2 tall forwardline.

Darcy will likely be in the ruck when Butts is. Unless they play Croft

Not that I agree with the suggestion
