The elephant in the room/unpopular opinion is that Soli has been pretty disappointing given his early trajectory. I’m sure he’ll become a solid player for us. But his ceiling is nowhere near as high as we’d hoped.
Can he and Berry play in the same side and both do well?

To me they play the same role.

If selection is based on team balance, one of these guys make way for Rankine.

He'd want to be careful because the potential is that Draper overcomes his injuries and offers a point of difference in the midfield with his speed, that Dan Curtin successfully transitions from the Wing into the middle and come the end of the season, we are successful in luring Bailey across from Brisbane. Add in Dawson, Rankine, Rachele and there is little to no room for him in the side. We also had a play at Sanders from the Dogs and if we did go back in and get him, then Soli might be done with us longer term.

Yep, all of this as well. And not that unrealistic.

IF our midfield is genuinley stacked to the point Sog cant get in, we are a very good side.

I don’t understand playing soligo last week and dropping him this week.

Could just be he was fit enough to offer more than what we had available in round 1 (i.e. we rate a, say, 60-70% Soligo over our 26-27th player onwards noting injuries) but not fit enough to justify over Peatling/Berry.

Soligo out was the obvious one, the club has done a mountain of work on Pedlar in pre season and even though he was quite, he allows Rachele and Rankine to play wherever they want to.
Also means he could be coming in fresh the following week and we are debating again who he replaces.

And the issue is?

If your 5th or 6th midfielder is Jake Soligo, youve developed a pretty handy midfield.

Would love to have Rachele continue his midfield development, we know Rankine has the capacity as does Dawson. Those 3 plus (hopefully) our pick 4 Draper puts Soligo potentially at the 5th banana with Peatling and Berry. A lot of hypotheticals there I know, but its not beyond the realms.

Id still love to add another quality mid to that group

What different dynamic does Peatling bring compared to these two? I feel he's in a similar boat personally.

That's just a narrative he pushes so that whenever they lose or struggling he has an excuse to make Walker the scapegoat.

Port went into the game against North with Georgiades (192), Whitlock (200) and Lord (197) and I didn't hear shit from Kane, but apparently Fog (192), Walker (196) and Filthy (201) is too tall.

He’s a clown.
Who also hates Tex & wants him out.

The melts will be glorious, especially from the poster who thinks ruck provide nothing of value and wasting 2 spots in the 23 to provide only 100% is worth carrying on about post after post after post after post.

But what will actually be glorious, will be your complete about face on playing 2 genuine rucks. It'll be near Kristof's famous, 'even I'll melt if Billy is selected' to 'no, I can definitely see the logic' 15 minute turnaround.
He laughed at my post to Elite's tag that it would create 10 pages of spam.

He's doing it in a canter!

When you need to repeat the same argument around 100 times, it's spam that is treating the rest of the board with disrespect... as most of us got the point the 1st time.

He’s said it about other teams aswell.

I assume you expect him to mention every team every week.

If Kane wasn’t a ex port player people might actually take note of what he says.

You are forgetting Curtin..he could be right up there with the very best if he can make the transition from wing to the centre square

No he doesn’t, he forces more midfield time because he doesn’t have the tank to do minutes in there.

He and Rash have only just turned 23 right?
So this is the year they should be entering peak performance.

Soligo looked tired at the end of last year. He has been injured this year. We still haven't seen his best.

Madness to think we'd get a group so good that a talent like Soligo gets no game

This notion that Pedlar doesn't have the tank to play midfield, play him in there as much as they are playing Thilthorpe in there, about 3 centre bounces a game. His tank is not an issue, just don't expect he can run 50/50 mid and forward.

Pedlar can do the 3 or so centre ball ups and his explosiveness at a centre contest is a weapon

This, it’s bullshit. He’d done it before, he was good at it, now they’ve stopped. He could easily have bursts, he’s the fittest he’s been and they didn’t even bother training him as a mid this preseason.

Remember the "bash brothers" Berry and Pedlar, in their early trials?

Interesting ....So we are carrying two players to allow other players to do other things, Turry allows TT to play more FWD/MID & Peds allows Rankine & Rachelle to play more midfield minutes, i wonder what other teams do this and have players in to allow others to play other positions and were the line in the sand is with regard to effective vs no effective roleplaying

I can totally see why people dont want Filthy in the ruck, absolutely get it.

I just don't see Murray being there as a positive purely just to take that extra load off. The game is built of transition from the back half and as a side with midfield depth issues and some underdone players (for the moment) I just dont think leaving out that extra runner being the best idea.

With 5 on the bench yet no increase to rotations, I reckon it works.

And having Thilthorpe not smashing knees 5-10 times a game is a crazy benefit.
