Pathetic.

Why the ** did we only show up with five minutes to play in the game? Where was that effort in the third quarter? What the ** are we doing?

**** Essendon, seriously. Until I watch them lose again next week. Because I am cursed.
I'm pretty sure we did it last week too; a bunch of players stat padding when the game is over.

The fact we didn't move Merrett is one thing, but in my opinion we're going to rue not starting to move on the likes of Parish, Langford, Ridley over the last two two trade periods when they had interest and they had some value.
Did any club ever actually have legit interest in Parish? Like maybe back when was a free agent in 2023, but in 2024/2025? I don't see it

I'd argue that moving on Merrett means you keep Parish around, though. A logical process is to sell the players you can get value for and keep the players who don't have value to fill space. The problem is, we did neither and instead went down a 3rd path of "only get rid of players who are out of contract and probably don't want to be here anymore anyway"

obviously this club doesn't follow logic, but still

Gobsmacked. Like the rest of us Brad.

Buckle-up, good people. I’m not sure where our win will come from this season. A diabolical layer of fog has descended on 2026. A long cold winter of curbed enthusiasm awaits us..
Richmond. Maybe. Maybe not.

We didn't need to move all of them but it would have been smarter to move more than just Draper from the injury prone senior players pile before we get to the compromised draft period.

Well that makes sense when he is playing as an above average AFL wing and Brad decides he need to be a forward instead so he can get his boy Prior into the team.
Prior was diabolical. Just let players take marks at will 5m in fornt of him while jogging. Zero desperation.

Look at Maynard for the Pies, love him or hate him, he would have made the spoil most times if he was in Prior's position.

Can't wait for Solly to come in and right the ship!

Winless season confirmed.

oh of course, anyone with a brain should have known what we did last off-season made no sense whatsoever

but on a broader picture, and this is something I'm going through with my NHL team atm, people seem to get laser focused on getting rid of the "bad" players instead of focusing on making the logical moves, I guess it because it feels righteous and just. I don't think we'll rue keeping Parish around simply because I struggle to believe he had much, if any, value in 2024 or 2025 but then the Club also doesn't get rid of anyone with value either, so what are we doing here.

Langford is trickier given his value has plummeted very quickly and I don't think selling high after 2024 was likely, from a both Club and player perspective.

Scotts job is to win games. If a player no matter the age is on the list Scott should be able to pick them.

Selection integrity is important to keep a unit together.

You need to build evidence and keep open communication if you plan on dropping senior players. I’m sure Scott has had some strong conversations with some of the guys in the gun and if things don’t improve we will see those guys moved down a level. Similar to Shiel.

I think we looked better than we have in the first two rounds.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. His job is not to win for the now, but to develop a team that can contend in the future, and ideally accelerate their development where possible - i.e. by playing kids even when they’re not fully ready (due to a lack of experience not injury).

Currently, we have no selection integrity whatsoever. Brad constantly and arbitrarily plays all of the senior players, and only when injuries force him to does he select younger players, with a few very minor exceptions - otherwise, they are never to be dropped.

Give the kids an extended run like tsatas, rather than parish, and build for the future (and at least try a kid out, and then bring the senior players back in once the junior players have failed).

that should never be the job of the coach. the job of the coach should, like 90% of the time, be try to win the game with the cattle you've been given. it's the job of the football manager and list manager to get the cattle, and if the overall direction of the club is "to develop a team that can contend in the future, and ideally accelerate their development where possible" then list management decisions should be made in that direction. If you don't want the coach playing too many old guys, don't have those guys on the list.

the issue here is the cattle we've got is all over the place because they've too afraid to do anything except get rid of guys on expiring contracts

with that said, anyone who thinks any other AFL coach in recent history would have deployed a line-up any younger than Scott has in the first 3 rounds of this season is dreaming. this list has 13 guys with 100+ games on it, and Scott didn't pick two of them in R1 so that he could play Hussien & Kondogiannis & Nuguyen instead. Nearly every other coach is picking Gresham & Guelfi to start the season off with (partiucally with Keko not in the team in R1 too!)

Prior’s efforts to defend, particularly on the lead, were pathetic - barely jogging behind someone 2 m in front of him.
His laziness was unbelievable.

And this, after I thought he played a decent game last week (one of his very few).
