Preview Changes and pre match discussion vs Adelaide [Thursday teams - no change!]

It's easily Jonathan Hay. Traded pick 18 for him and he only played 8 games due to all the shit he was going through. Hawthorn drafted Max Bailey. Mark Powell in the same trade period gave the game away during the pre-season, we only gave up pick 61 for him though.

3 weeks in the bests for Riley and for him not to get a call up you’d think our defenders have been collecting coaches votes every week.. Bewildering. Im
Sorry but this reeks of what Scotts did and it pissed us all off to no hilt on here at the time
I don't think we're there yet. Riley only really been good enough the last two weeks.
If he doesn't come in against GC, you can probably bet that he plays in the West.

I'm torn. I'm one of the last dozen competitors in the BF Permadeath tipping comp.

I'd planned around tipping Adelaide against us from a few weeks into the season. Logic being the Adelaide Oval hoodoo.

But the closer we get, the more optimistic I feel about our chances.

What to do, what to do...

My only realistic alternative is to tip WB against Carlton, even though now they'll have the new coach bounce factor.

It would be insane for us to trade Riley now. Does anyone have a clue what is going on?

We do not need to get too concerned about what is happening with the likes of Hardeman and Harvey. There are many footballers who have played substantial numbers of games in the Reserves, before eventually breaking in to the seniors and going on to have long careers.

Hawthorn does this better than any team. Players often serve long apprenticeships, learning the game at the lower level before graduating. Michael Tuck is the best and easiest example of this process.

I feel like this a very important game. We had some good wins against teams we should have beaten and put up a decent fight against higher rated teams, but ultimately were beaten by the better side on the day.

This game is important because a win over there would show genuine improvement, but it also has a ominous feel about it to me, they’re a pretty potent side Adelaide and can get a hold of teams.

This is the sort of game where over the last few years, after showing some promise that we’re on the up, have rolled over and once again had me scratching my head wondering when they will finally take the next step.

C’mon North, time to grow up. Get the W

I always thought Howe was an interesting one. He had some positives - good size, covered the ground well, no issue finding the footy. But he just had those inexplicable, mind-bogglingly obscene turnovers several times a game that resulted in an opposition goal nearly every time and they totally negated any positives.

St Kilda vs Richmond looks safest to me.

If only it was still an available option.

I tipped them against Carlton two weeks ago.

Oh right. I didn't know the rules. I suppose it's out of the cows and dogs. Dogs probably a slightly higher chance. Had a look ahead to see if one of them have a monty in the next couple of weeks, but neither have one for ages. pies vs eagles next week. After that it looks very dicey.

I heard something ridiculous that Sheez wasn’t even born the last time we won in Adelaide.
Correct. Our last win against the Crows in Adelaide was Round 21, 2003 · AAMI Stadium · Saturday August 23, 2:40PM. North Melbourne won by 10 pts.

We've never won at Adelaide Oval.

It is interesting looking at the last game where we played the Crows in R24 last year at Marvel. The Crows were still white hot and held the top spot on the ladder, before they double shat the bed in the finals.

We put up a good fight that day, but they held us at arms length and we fell short by 13 points. The composition of those 2 teams is massive with nearly a third of the side changed.

Out: Powell, Scott, Pink, Banch, Corr, Harvey and Payne (a few of these will be gone by the EOY 2026).

IN: Blamires, Dawson, Zurhaar, Larkey, Spargo, Duursma and LMac.

If our forward line can click (Souva and Trembath), then we can put up a score that should win. Our midfield is better than the last match and should have ADL covered.

Our Achilles heel is our transition defence, and we’re still persisting with thinking Daniel and Logue can win 1:1 contests. The transitional defence is better with Jy being repurposed on the wing and Blamires having a really good tank to get back.

Time for a scalp, a win at that ground and for our march back up the ladder. No more honourable losses and making excuses for poor umpiring. Line in the sand and Souva to lead a defining team win.

Thilthorpe out is huge, he straightens them out so much. No Tex and Thilthorpe and their forward line doesn't look as ominous.

Have to put work into Rankine, Rachele and Dawson. Those 3 will be the key to them winning.

We should have the ascendency in the midfield.

Dawson - Rankine - Peatling - Berry - Soligo

Vs

LDU - FOS - Wardlaw - Sheezel

Outside

Cumming - Cook - Rachele -

Vs

Kerch - Stephens - Simpkin - Blamires

Going to be a very very interesting game.
