Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

It's so good having heeney gulden mills and Chad ****ing Warner competing so hard to be the best player in this team. Every time I feel.like on of them has it sown up someone else just blows it apart.

Warner was incredible tonight, there's just no other player in the competition like him. His second behind wasn't a huge miss but it was so clever and showed how unique and damaging he can be. It's so good that instead of having a nearly night like things were looking he just took the game by the scruff of the neck and took over.

Loving watching Chad play this year. Learned a few lessons from last year where he got caught a bit but has managed this year to improve his sideways movement a bit so he is less predictable. He's like a crab with that lateral movement.
I remember when he came to the club as a tough inside tackling machine and I thought he seemed a bit one dimensional and a typical tough Swans inside mid. The development of this guy into the player he's become has been phenomenal. To be a great team you need these gems who seemingly surprise everyone with their development and full credit to him, he has continually improved to become a gun player. Kinnear Beatson has a great eye for talent.
Absolute joy to watch him play and complements our other mids who are also playing great

I thought he had one of his best defensive games. If he can build upon his tackling & defensive side then he'll elevate to another level. He's also playing more in the fwd 50 & he looks dangerous in that area. There's a presence about him in the fwd 50 which would worry opposition defenders. Great signs & I think he's about to elevate his game.

Well well well...he has most definitely elevated his game & elevated the midfield to another level. Wow.

Lol. I thought I was getting carried away comparing him to Martin
Nope. For the last few weeks I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe it's the haircut to make him look like Martin, but his sidestep and attitude is Martin at his peak. Even his fend (when not using his elbow) is approaching his level.

There isn't another player i can think of that is/was similar to what we are seeing now.

There will be a lot of chequebooks out next year.

Edit: I see DQ has beaten me to it!

And that was Ablett's breakout year who went on to do much, much better over the following years. I'm just imagining Warner following the same trajectory...

Remember how we tried to trade up in the draft to draft Martin and then explored a trade for him.

Now we have Martin II but can we keep him as he will get unbelievable offers from the West and Melbourne clubs.

Extend him now please.
