Callum Mills

Callum Mills is one of the best young players in the AFL. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate won the 2016 AFL Rising Star award and was selected in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team in three of his four eligible years. Mills is a small defender with uncompromising courage who’s also capable of shifting through the midfield. The New South Welshman was elevated to Sydney’s leadership group during the 2018 pre-season at the age of just 21, and he’s now a member of a five-man leadership panel alongside co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Lance Franklin.

Whatever it is, he's worth it.
Oh you haven't heard Jewels. He and Heeney have taken us to the cleaners apparently, the selfish, greedy bastards! I've heard that they have forgone the team bus to the SCG for the preliminary final. Heeney's gonna swing past Mills' Point Piper penthouse and pick him up in his helicopter instead.

My very good source who was on the bench on Friday night said the leadership of Mills was unbelievable , as good as any he's seen or heard . At one stage Horse was a bit flustered and Millsy went up to him and said calm down , we have them we are not losing , then Buddy came off and said the same , the players new they had it

Has horse ever not been flustered on the bench? We can be 60 points up and he looks like a plane passenger who has had to take the wheel after a pilot passes out.

In the leadership group by the age of 21 says a lot.

Great insight Bedford.

That is a brilliant description! Spat my tea all over myself when I read it 🤣

wait what flights are you taking 🤣

Hate to call him out as he's genuinely a great all round player and quite a good leader in my eyes - 13 disposals, 3 tackles and 1 clearance is simply not good enough for a man of his talent and consistency. He'll know that better than anyone I'm sure but he really let us down when we needed him most today.

The goal was good

Whatever s**t he was going on with at half time looked stupid when getting flogged

rubbish game from a captain

seemed shattered though

He was rattled and hurting for sure, he can take it one of two ways, hopefully it's the making of him and we'll look back on this day as the beginning of that.

It makes me realize how vital it has been for our 4 top inside mids to be on their game every week during our winning streak. To maintain pressure in the middle and keep winning contests.

Papley and Warner in the middle are more attacking oriented. Parker is usually intense at the contest but not a great defensive runner. So we really rely on Rowbottom and Mills to keep getting to each midfield contest and putting constant pressure on. So it makes a difference if one of those guys has a quiet game.

Maybe they will look to get Sheldrick in next season to begin to start sharing that role.

Hoping he's less defensive next year. I want teams be focused on stopping Mills rather than Mills being focused on stopping teams.
Tired of Mills being used as the "break glass in case of emergency" position. Mills is that ball winning mid we need, his game against the Hawks was as good as anyone this season. If we let him play that he'll easily win a brownlow

Was huge in the first 2 finals, we can’t expect him to put the team on his shoulders every week.
Sorry but as captain I think it's fair to expect him to put the team on his shoulders in a grand final.

I did not like seeing Warner and Rowbottom flying the flag better than a leader who was one of the few big enough, strong enough and experienced enough to handle what Geelong were throwing at us.

If he's the great leader we all think he is then he won't be defined by his game yesterday and will use it as motivation to only do better.
