Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

And yet Murphy has narrowed the gap between them already this season. Go figure!

As to Scodogs question, why the +1? You were already involved in a discussion just a few pages back where the reasoning for someone putting Murphy & Pendles neck and neck was laid out. Couple that with Murphy's form this year and I thought the answer would have been one of the more easily tapped in footy jabbers.

Murphy has been good, no question, but nowhere near the level of Pendlebury.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Murphy has been better that Pendlebury over the first 5 rounds this year jabbers.

Hard to split the two, I guess you have to take Pendlebury based on his success last year, but you are kidding yourself if you think Pendlebury is streets ahead of Murphy.

In which areas? Possessions? No! Disposal Efficiency? No Clearances? No Contested Possessions No? Goals? No Tackles? No Marks? No Score Assists? No

Mmmm I'm sure you'll provide your reasons!

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

If Murphy has closed the gap b/w him & Pendlebury than Bryce Gibbs is currently the toughest player in the AFL. Paul Roos, Gary Lyon & James Hird last night said that Scott Pendlebury is currently the best player in the AFL. God there are some clueless ones here.

Aside from the fact counting stats has never been more irrelevent than in the modern game, Murphy happens to lead Pendles in contested possession, just so you know. The gap is negligible, but it's the same across the statistical spectrum between these two players.

I'm not going to claim Murphy as having had the better season thus far, but there's not much to argue against it either, apart from a handful of stats with negligible differences.

Still, their form has given a lot of weight to me having put them neck and neck heading into the season in complete draft re-do sense, as per previous pages arguments.

Contested Possession = Yes. Murphy averaging 2 more a game than Pendlebury this year.

Goals = Yes Murphy is averaging more this year and has all his career.

Clearances - Both averaging 6.2

Possession = Pendlebury averaging 29.2 to Murphy 28.2. Huge difference there ;)

Don't let the facts get in the way of your biased opinion though.

Official AFL statistics: Pendlebury is averaging one goal/assist per game - Murphy is well under that. Pendlebury is also averging over 30 touches a game. For clearances, Pendlebury just pips Murphy with 5.8 to 5.4.

Your statistics are clearly wrong. Please refer to a better source next time.

Apologies for the contested stats on looking again Murphy has averaged .4 more a game NOT 2! Clearances Pendlebury averages 0.4 more a game and 0.4 goals more per game.

So all of your stats were wrong! But hey let's not let facts get in the way!

ps. Your disposals stat was wrong too!

Don't be so antagonistic, the stats that I look at match his, except for goals scored which has Pendlebury in front at 1.0 where as Murphy is at .6

This is where I get my stats from http://www.pro-stats.com.au/

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Think he purposely left them out of the order. I would take Jack over the guys from Gilbert onwards. Personally, I still don't rate Thomas 3rd. Maybe Im just stuck in the past ;)

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

Didn't Lecras kick 12 goals on Hocking :/ Ibbo's gonna have a breakout year either this one or next.
Just proved Hocking is not a defender - he is a midfielder
Has already had his breakout year (2nd in our B & F last year) and currently Top 15 in Clearances and contested possessions.

Can't disagree with your list except that perhaps Ibbotson and Stokes a little high. Ibbotson definitely not ahead of Varcoe IMO

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

And actual impact.

Swallow is developing into a sensational player.

Heir apparent to Hayes imo (in a competition sense).

Seems to have gone up another level again;

27 ppg, 6 tackles and a goal a game is some serious numbers.

Disposal is now a strength.

Will be a bit unlucky I fear, as alot of non AA mids are having fantastic years in top 8 sides, Watson, Mundy etc

Could be the best midfielder outside of the actual AA side this year.

I'd personally have him ahead of Murphy now, certainly Thomas.

I am staggered that you don't have priddis in the top 15.

Re: 2005 Afl draft Re-Done

I am staggered that you don't have priddis in the top 15.

The reason was that i didn't include rookie drafted players in the list. Note that the ones i listed in my post you could make a case for being included in the 15 but most were more mature which is a bit of an advantage.

A bit like Barlow last year and Curnow now

These are not necessarily the best but who i personally would have drafted for my team given needs etc. (eg eagles have not been exactly short in the ruck department hence perhaps almost harsh placings of ryder and clarke. Im sure ive probably just completely missed a gun in there somewhere aswell.
