Any thoughts on what the next season will bring to the Blues ?

I'd love to see finals action, but don't want the side to get ahead of themselves.

It would be great to get the young kids to see some finals action, and give them a taste of the big-time ?

Can't see finals action myself.

I'll be happy to see us be more competitive against the top sides.

No more blowouts by 100 points would be nice too. I think this is something we can instantly fix too, because it's more mental.

I think we'll finish around the same as this year position wise, but with much better percentage.

I think some somewhere between 8-10 would be a good result. Remember we should have Kouta, Waite and a much fitter Whitnall for more of the season than in 2004. Nick Stevens has been able to do a full and uninterupted preseason and Thornton and Norman look they've bulked up very well.

All things point to a good Carlton team from 2006 and beyond!!

i think if kouta, stevens, french, thornton, whitnall and fevola play 22 or around about games we should be aiming for the finals :p

ps: from all the training reports on TBV ive been reading it seems like our list is coming along very nicely!!! great to hear walker, livo, norman and wiggons bulking up considerably too!! :D

We'll make the finals, don't worry about that. We'll also improve drastically over the season. Under Pagan we have:
Some great young talent.
Some average players who have improved into good players.
Some below average players who are atleast more accountable.

That's why Pagan is the best coach....that's why we'll have the best side in a couple of years. :cool:

We would probably require 13 wins to achieve finals representation.

It would require us being able to pinch a few wins off the top 4 sides over the season, this is where the gap has been the greatest.

We have had some good fighting wins last year, but generally fought within our weight division, St Kilda, Brisbane, Port, Sydney, Freo amongst other sides have brushed us aside.

On the upside, we have had wins against the Pies, WCE, Melb, Geelong & have shown that we are clearly getting better & more competitive.

Currently we have scraped ourself out of the cellar dweller tag & can genuinely claim to be a middle of the road side, but the positive being that we are on the way up..............

If not this year, finals should be expected in 2006.

Exciting times & those that make me remember back to 92, when we pulled ourselves upwards & out of the rut that the club found itself in the very late 80's / early ninetees.

This is our fixture........

winners in bold - pls take in mind that I am a terrible tipster & I'm trying to do this using my head - not my heart...............
I'm sure I'll cop a truck load of crap just on that comment above. :eek:

Essendon vs. Carlton at M.C.G.
Carlton vs. Kangaroos at Telstra Dome

As you can see 12 wins.
I think we can beat Essendon 1 out of the 2 games, will continue to match up well on the Kangas, Pies, Adelaide, & obviously on the Hawks, Bulldogs & the Tigers.
I also think that after last years performance against the Dees we should expect to beat them at Optus.

If we can manage to pinch a few upsets against the more fancied sides we are capable of playing finals this year.

The young side will definitely be carrying its momentum into 2006 though.... :)

i feel that how well carlton go in 2005 depends on how well lance whitnal plays next season...i feel that is we can get lance back to playing top footy then we become more dangerous as between lance and fev on fire that is very dangerous and hard to match up on...lance is capable of being very damaging so his imporatnce will relfect our position in 2005!!!

I feel that the blues will struggle in 2005. Their list is churd to be honest. I mean, i know the pies arent much better but im just being realistic. Your forward line has a bit of talent but is not potent enough, you have an ageing midfield apart from Andrew Walker and your backline I feel is the worst in the AFL.

In all honestly I hope the Blues have a good season cos i want to see the Pies and Blues back out there battling out in September. I admire what Dennis has done with your club and wish him some degree of success (lol) but at this stage i just think you need to go after a few more youngester and maybe a year or two of developing.

Merry Xmas to all you guys!!!!!

Correction, the pies are no better than the blues. Could you please remind your fellow filth..I mean Collingwood supporters that Carlton finished above the pies!!! You seem to forget that.

OK thanks for the advice. Personally I think 3 years is enough and I would like to see my Carlton side return. We have the youngest team in the league, so maybe that'll do for now. A few more youngsters would destroy our depth, so thanks, but no thanks....

Hey Carlton has the second youngest list. Weve gone after youngsters enough! :)

Richmond, Hawthorn, Bulldogs, Kangaroos, Adelaide, Collingwood will all finish below the Baggers this year.

On that alone we finish 10th & dissagree about an "ageing" midfield - coming from a Collingwood supporter thats a bit rich.
Kouta fits into that category, Campo is younger than Burns & Buckley.

Scotland, Johnson, Stevens, Waite, Walker, Mcrath, Lappin, Chambers, Davies, Bannister, Houlihan - not exactly on their last legs.......

Another 60 + goals from Fev, 30 + from Whitnall, 20's from T-LO, Lappin, Waite - we have a good spread of goal kickers - not to mention Kouta & Campo.

As stated prior we will need to beat the top sides to go anywhere this year.

Will not finish bottom 4. :)

That's about the most accurate reflection of a year I've seen on these boards. I think 12 is realistic, however I've stated before that we'll win about the same number of games as last year but with better percentage (cos we wont get pummelled once every four weeks like we did this year!) Let's hope.

Ageing midfield hey!

Buckley = 33
Burns = 30
Woewodin = 27
Licuria = 26

Average age: 29.0

Koutoufides = 32
Camporeale 28
Stevens = 24
Walker = 18

Average age: 25.5 years

A difference of 3.5 years in average ages of our midfield compared to yours and yet you say we have an ageing midlfield!

Ahhh Collingwood supporters........ good for sh$t!

Don't forget our midfield has 2 brownlow medalists in it and 2 best and fairest winners in burns and licuria. Don't compare any of your players with the great Nathan Buckley!!!!

By The Way Mike I mentioned in my statement apart from Walker your midfield is ageing. You absolute half wit!!!

I can't wait to see you finish in the bottom 4 like 02 and 03. Be realistic, you have to admit that because of your draft penalties that it is not a very talented list. And i'm not just saying that because I go for collingwood. It is an accepted fact and don't try and talk bullcock and say otherwise

And without Walker, we are still younger than yours on average by a year! Lets exclude your youngest and you are 2 years older than our midfield (without Walker). Any more logic up your sleeves?

Oh and every midfield is ageing - its a certain thing called time...

I can't wait to see Carlton beat Collingwood twice in a season again. We beat you in 2002 - we will always have the wood over your team and if you want to talk about how crap our list is, go to the General AFL board where you can put down Carlton to your hearts content.

What about the beltings we gave you when we were at full strength. I can guarantee you that carlton will not get near collingwood this year. Another one of those 70 point games.

I've heard enough. If you Collingwood bogans wanna discuss who's better than who, then do it on the main board. This thread was obviously aimed at Carlton supporter's opinions, hence it was posted on the Carlton board. So get lost, you're not welcome here!
