crowd for the richmond north mlebourne game was amazing.

easter sunday, two winless teams, north home game... i thought it would be about 15,000. 36,000 is incredible.

??? was always going to be a massive crowd today.

didn't work today but saw a running sheet yesterday. crowd estimation was 75k.

sheet for saturdays game said 23k.

~25K Richmond fans eager for their first realistic chance at a win will have that effect...If anything, it was disappointing.

more amazing that Carlton playing a struggling interstate side draws a larger crowd than two Victorian teams whose supporters both fancied their chances going into the game.

Kudos to the Blues, Cats and Hawkes fans. Great turnouts

Not only a great turnout today, but a great crowd too - for an impartial observer, Cats vs Hawks is always an enjoyable game to attend. The 'family' culture of both clubs definitely has something to do with this.

Many more Hawks fans there than Geelong, i s'pose that's a given though as it's their home game. Good turn out, AFL members opened up as general admission was full.

absolutely more amazing, you're talking 2 teams down the bottom without a win on easter sunday yep thats mouth watering, normally theres 7 of us but only 3 of us went, others said we'll spend it with family and thats fair enough....
To get 36,461 is great and had it been played on another day id add another 10% min to that figure and Coll V North got a tick of 40K in RD 2...

Carlton top 4 there up and about and Adelaide draw well in Melbourne....

Ab, my old mucker, clubs near the top of the ladder winning games find it easier to motivate their base than clubs in the basement not winning games. You are not alone in pretending to forget that simple reality if and when your own club is up and running but reality it is. Try to be a bit objectively sensible.

I've no idea what the last North V Carlton game with both winless early season or in the bottom 4 drew but it won't have been anything to write home about mate and almost certainly won't have been 36,000. ladder position impacts attendances....its not rocket science it truly isn't. If Carlton continue to go well this year you will draw very well...of course you will, just as a basement carlton a few years ago drew very very ordinary attendances against clubs like Adelaide and north. That is how the game works, that is the reality of attendance figures at AFL games.

That was a pretty good round for attendances..

This week should also be good
Eagles should get a decent turn out as they haven't played at home in a while ansd are in decent form.. 38-40K
Sydney v Carlton at the SCG should get close to 30K
Richmond v Lions will get 35k + whatever Fitzroy supporters are left.
Adelaide v St Kilda and North v Port will get about 40K together.
We've also got Essendon and Collingwood home games..

great turnouts over easter.. the two games at docklands were a big surpirise

Richmond's was more impressive.

The other teams have been up the top.

bahahaha. an early season game. both teams fans chock full of confidence of winning the game and 20k roos supporters and 16k richmond supporters show up.

massive effort
LMAO

Fantastic attendances all round. Everytime the Hawks play the Cats it always seems like every hawk fan on the planet turns up for it.

Honestly the most surprising was the Rich v Norf game. I thought theyd get 30k tops like when they played on Anzac day a year ago but 36k was fantastic.

Richmond had a away compensation game at their home ground against st kilda a few weeks ago yet they looked like they had more turn up to Etihad on Sunday at a ground they supposedly hate, where they had to pay to get in compared to the freebie against the Saints and a terrible time slot compared to the Friday night game. Crazy stuff.

True Dave but you have to keep in mind the remarkably low levels of expectation Richmond fans have had to endure for so long. We turned up in good numbers because we thought we were a squeak at winning. Simple as that. Whereas we were fairly light VS the Pies because the game was a foregone conclusion.

If we beat the Lions this week you'll probably see the biggest ever Richmond V Freo attendance the week after because 2 successive wins represents a run of form to Richmond. It's actually 5 years since we put back to back wins together early enough in the year for it to impact the ladder in any real way. That's the backdrop against which we have worked. Things really have been that poor. If we lose to the Lions it'll be back to team building and a work in progress. Until we piece some form together any decent numbers posted by Richmond is a bonus rather than an expectation and comparison of our attendances with those of top 4/6 teams - which you do not do but some do - an exercise in comparing apples to oranges such is the massive effect of form and consequent rising expectations..

As you should expect, in this day and age all strong Victorian clubs should be expecting to draw 30,000 par for par against the interstate clubs

I understand it doesn't happen but all Victorian clubs really should be drawing 25,000+ against the interstate clubs in this day and age

Perhaps they should but the simple truth is that all are subject to ladder position, form and consequent expectation. Collingwood and essendon in recent years have been able to drop out of the top 8 and still more or less guarantee 25,000 VS Freo and Port but no one else has. However as you say given present day numbers one hopes that sub 25K attendances are a minority in future.

I've no idea what the last North V Carlton game with both winless early season or in the bottom 4 drew but it won't have been anything to write home about mate and almost certainly won't have been 36,000.

Round 12 2006, Telstra Dome:
Kangaroos v Carlton
Crowd- 34,110
14th versus 15th, both teams with just 2 wins, Carlton the reigning wooden spooners.

So virtually the same crowd as the North v Richmond game. Maybe if you have no idea you shouldnt be making unsubstantiated comments. Richmond's crowd was nothing special.

Thank you for confirming that I was indeed right.

Look mate I don't care if you want a go at Richmond. Join the long line. However last year in Round 4 a struggling North drew 33,000 VS an Essendon coming off 2 wins and 1 defeat. Essendon...as big as Collingwood if going well and probably the best supported club in Victoria, drew 33,000 at the same time of year away to the same opposition and NOT on Easter. In Round 3 two years ago they drew 34,000 against flag waving Hawthorn for Pete's sake.

Now if you want to pretend 36,000 was nothing special you are more than welcome to do so but it was in fact an almost unprecedented turnout for struggling bottom 4 North against struggling bottom 4 opposition of any club never mind Richmond. As I said to Abaddon by all means have your bias but try to make sensible comment if you are going to commment otherwise the Bay exists for point scoring and bagging.

Simple question, were u there at Etihad 4 Rich V North?

Cause if u were u wouldn't have made a silly comment like 20K Roos and 16K Tiges....No shit our away game and we had easily more, when the roos kicked goals u hardly heard them let alone see them it was predominantly yellow & black around the ground, when we kicked goals it was loud, the break up of the crowd and a home game to the roos i might add was more in the vicinity of Tigers 25K and Roos 11K...Thats not throwing figures willy nilly u had to be there to see that we had about 70% of the crowd....

28,081 at the SCG tonight in driving rain. Pretty good.

Very good considering the NRL match between two Sydney teams drew 9,263.
