Looks like I'll need to keep my Sunday evenings free.

Good to see we got the only demands the club usually makes, though: at least 10 live(-ish) free to air games and at least 6 night games.

The 6-day turnaround for a lot of games there is a problem, but not insufferable.

All in all, we don't come out of it as well as some other teams, but nothing to be too frustrated with.

Now we also have GWS though. If Adelaide can't win 5 or all 6 (we might lose a Showdown, as they can be 50/50) of its games against GWS, GC and Port, we don't deserve to play finals. I'm sure we can scrounge up another 6 or 7 wins to make the 8.

Only the two GWS games and the GC game at AAMI are certain wins out of those 6.

Doubtful you'll be able to 'scrounge up' another 6 or 7 wins anyway.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

So this year when the Roos started the season with WCE in WA, Pies, Freo in WA were they also favoured?

I would not blame your lingering on the bottom for 30 years on 30 years of bad draws.

And when we started with Carlton, St. Kilda, Hawthorn and Collingwood?

My bad, I should be more thankful that the AFL tossed us a bone and gave us Melbourne in between.

Very, very happy with Essendons draw and it couldn't have been much better tbh, considering we are always going to play Collingwood and Carlton twice every year regardless.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Only reason is because Richmond are a sustainable club and can still get people thru the turnstiles even when we are lingering at the bottom, whereas NM and Melbourne for that matter need to be put into the 8 to ensure they don't go bankrupt.

Yeah, that's why last year our first three games were two trips to Perth and Collingwood.

Re: Clubs fixtures from worst to best according to The Age

Collingwood had a hard draw last year too. Still won 20 H&A games.

It was easier than 2010's draw, where we were the only club to play the top 4 teams twice and two other top 8 sides twice.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

24 actually. We play Essendon twice too.
Oh wow, you guys haven't played each other twice in a season for 10 years.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Absolute BS, the favoritism AFL is so blatantly clear it's ridiculous.

Gifted 16 premiership points. Clearly NM are having the hand-held by the afl to be guided into the 8. Richmond cop 4 of the top 5 teams from last year in the opening 5 rounds.

Only reason is because Richmond are a sustainable club and can still get people thru the turnstiles even when we are lingering at the bottom, whereas NM and Melbourne for that matter need to be put into the 8 to ensure they don't go bankrupt.

Its a mixed blessing, Essedon last season had a similarly tough opening to the season. Came through and made the finals. Othersides had 'easier' draws and played like it was just going to happen.

What annoys me is that they say every team will travel 5 times and then include sold home games in that.

Interesting observations from a GWS/Sydney perspective:

GWS will have four home grounds next season: Manuka, Blacktown, Skoda and ANZ.

The Sydney metropolitan area now hosts two AFL clubs who play at four separate venues.

The Melbourne metropolitan area hosts nine AFL clubs (not including Geelong who play home games in Melbourne) but only have two separate venues.

You're forgetting how shit WC were in 2010, and when that fixture came out, it was seen an easy win, WCE at subi going by 2010 form was a piss easy feat even for NM. Just so happened they were a surprise packet in 2011, so technically the AFL only dogged you with 2 relatively difficult games, Freo aren't anything special either.

Plus you got GC twice. I'm sorry though, any draw that's not as easy as your 2012 draw in comparison will be seen by you supporters as a conspiracy by the AFL against NM... honest mistake.

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Finals here we come!

This isn't an easy fixture given to us to make the finals, there is method to the AFL's madness. It is a Sunday twilight/Fox extravaganza so we play the kind of teams that they can shove in that time slot, a lot. Which happens to be shit opposition, mostly.

14 of the 22 games will likely be live and exclusive to Fox. 11 of the 22 on Sunday, most early or twilight which are usually Fox timeslots. 1 Friday night appearance vs Carlton again and 3 Saturday nights.

We aren't going to be making a lot of money from our H&A games but lets be realistic, Docklands will steal most of the money anyway.

am i reading this right? Hawks get 3 interstate games if you dont include their Tasmania games? wow. Well done. Would be happy if you were a Hawks fan

Good footy wise, not so financially as we play all 8 interstate clubs at home as well as North Melbourne in Launceston. Only good thing is we get Collingwood and Geelong at home as well

Im hoping we can reproduce essendons feat last season, and come out competitive and win some 'unwinnable' matches and build some solid form for round 6 when the afl decided it was getting a bit too obvious.

Re: Clubs fixtures from worst to best according to The Age

Wow, The Age has Freo & West Coast with 20 road trips each (And Brisbane 19)! They must be playing some games in Esperance or something ... ;-)

Ehhhh. No they don't, it's based on a points system. Read the criteria ;)

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

While Essendon is a bit of a bunny, not that we flog them, they just find ways to lose to us, they tend to perform a lot better at the start of the season when it isn't quite as physical as later in the season games. The last time they beat us was an early season game.

So I am not quite prepared to put down the round 1 game in the 4 premiership points category just yet. If our pre-season start was as sloppy as this year then it could be one we drop, I will get a better feel from seeing the pre-season games.

Re: Clubs fixtures from worst to best according to The Age

teams form change rapidly at the start to end of a season, but one thing that won't change is that collingwood have to travel the least with one of the fewest 6 day breaks of any one else. expect them to finish top 2 again...

Re: So North got GWS and Gold Coast Twice Each

Did any Richmond fan honestly expect them to play finals in 2012 even with an easy draw ?
I still remember that late season belting we gave them at the G, Tigers are still a couple of years away.

True but i guess the main thing is winning games, winning games means bums on seats and more people signing up membership generally. Its a massive win for you guys in that respect
