facilities are great? they dont have a fence around the ground changerooms are very small and the clubhouse is a canteen, Uni are in it for social fun footy and that is great but are competing at the wrong level. Easter week instead of getting the much needed training in it was decided to go to the Lions v tigers and watch the AFL and have a drink this is the clubs mindset and again nothing wrong with it but it is a social one first. i bet the stronger clubs trained first then went on their social activities?

Agree Speedy, the facilities at UQ didn't meet AP Cup standard much rather QAFL. They do have links to West Juniors. I cant see the university spending money on upgrading the facilities, when they have since the 1980's reducing AFL facilities at UQ.

smy, agree,.. a VAFL rep side would beat a QAFL rep side by 10 goals plus at least. A full list Neafl side would most likely defeat the VAFL side, but not by much.

Look you would expect VAFA to be too strong- having said that I watched the VAFA play against the Sydney Premier League in 2008 see link.

V.A.F.A 4.3 6.4 9.6 13.8 (86)
AFL Sydney 3.2 7.8 7.12 11.15 (81)

AFL Sydney probably should have won. In 2012 minus NEAFL players the margin was 47 points.

I would put QAFL stronger than AFL Sydney so based on that who knows? Depends if VAFA sends their best team and likewise if QAFL has the likes of Davey and Shelton etc maybe QAFL could be at least competitive.

True 2010 - alot depends on who plays. If the game is up here then imagine the Ammo lads would be all over a trip to sunny Qld during the winter!!

VAFL is a strong comp... will be to good for a QAFL rep side. By some 6 to 8 goals as a prediction.

Watched the Magpies vs Vultures today... a scrappy game not helped by the very windy conditions where the Magpies got home by 3 or 4 goals in a low scoring game. Must say, the newly resurfaced turf at the Dittmar Park is a treat,,, after some heavy rain yesterday, the surface was mint. On todays performance, Magpies have a way to go. For Mt.Gravatt , they have a guy ( number 3) , I think his surname is Neate.....is a good player.

This game here boys was 3rd and 4th division players from the VAFA playing AFL Sydney, the senior boys 1st and 2nd divisions play against Vic Country, and in the Metro cup and the VAFA just beat the very strong Eastern Football league to claim the title again[ about 2 weeks ago]. QAFL are this year playing the big boys and as you have all stated could be in for a solid afternoon. I have heard David Lake, Daryn Creswell, Steve Daniel and Matt Trewella are all involved in coaching roles.

Watched Broady play the Grange today.... again, very blusterly windy conditions made the game a little difficult. Grange did well, whilst Broady are improving each week,, playing some very good patches of footy. Having their Captain( Fife) back for his first game this year after injury is a big plus for them .. Am now feeling confident we will play finals and be a major challenger.... Coach Petterd is doing a very good job with this young list.

Yeah i think we have to be careful about who the QAFL played previously. Saying this if the coaching staff were allowed to play off against each other in a mini game then i think we might have it covered... Some fair footballers there! :)

Do players who are under contract with NEAFL teams but playing regular QAFL games qualify for the QAFL team? Wouldn't think Creswell would fit in with that coaching staff.

Pinocchio,
correct,,, I don't think the average punter up here has the knowledge of the depth of the VAFA... with some 4 or 5 divisions involved. I know they have defeated Vic Country in recent years and saw they beat the EFL rep side as u said two weeks ago.I guess a lot depends on the side they put on the field, ie availability of their best players.
If the QAFL can put their best possible team on the field they will be competitive. And, if they are allowed to include some of their clubs NEAFL contracted players , then I wud expect a tight contest.

Would imagine they would have had to have played 2 or 3 games with QAFL sides to date.

Watched magpies v The Mounties on sat very scrappy game but (4) points is (4) points I guess. I personally think it's fantastic that all those coaches are coming together to help in developing a plan to combat the VAFA, as no doubt they will be giving up some of their ideas on their own perspective game styles .
Great to see hope they do well, I will be going to watch for sure.

i think it is a good coaching panel with experience of Lake,Daniel and Cresswell with an up and coming coach Trewella, i just hope the car salesmen Lake and Cresswell respect the position and dont use it as a recruiting plaform from other QAFL clubs, i think with the NEAFL players i believe if they have played 5 or more games before the squads are announced they should be considered i do hope it isnt just Labrador Mside and PBC players only, there are some gems at all clubs the challenge is to discover them.

Brittain from Grange would have to be a certainty..

Agree Ruffles, we are going to need our best possible team against this mob.... depends also on what sort of team the VAFA, send up, be it full strength or a below full strength side.

And don't forget the VAFA have already played 2 or more rep games this season, winning the Metro comp in Melbourne by defeating the strong Eseendon and District comp in the final. Thus, a big advantage as they have a side that has trained together and played together, where as we will be coming in on a one off so to speak.

I'm not saying that QAFL will beat vafa but maybe the gap not as much as one expects

You just never know, Queensland created history 6 years ago when they won the div 2 carnival in Vic. Beating Vic 2, NSW and NT. The following carnival in Sydney [Wagga Wagga] in the main division they again created history for Queensland getting through to the top 4, ACT, Victoria, Queensland and SA.
