Mature age players from the WAFL does scare me a bit.

Blee and Mitchell barely translated their ability across to the SANFL. Marlon Motlop and Mitch Banner looked like stars there too.

Bad drafting is bad drafting.

Harry Taylor, Matt Priddis, Lewis Jetta and Hayden Ballantyne go alright.

It's stupid to call Mitchell a draft failure. Probably 75% of guys going in the rookie draft don't even get close to an AFL game. Mitchell has been a reasonable fringe contributor for three years now. I don't think he's best 22 going forward, but geez there's some ludicrous statements about him.

Menegola has been tremendous this year - endurance and fitness has always been elite for an AFL footballer. Relied too heavily on that in his time at Hawthorn and Fremantle and was never really successful in settling into a role. IIRC Fremantle's intent was to use him as a tagger, which he showed some promise for but obviously not enough to stay on the list. Added considerable bulk over the last off season and the work he put into his skills really showed throughout the year. I think he'll get a rookie chance somewhere.

Very true, Mitchell has been serviceable and that's more than you can say for most rookies who never see the light of day.

He seems like a great bloke too. My fiance works for a charity and last year they had an event for the kids with some of the players, and whilst they all did their part she said Mitchell was the one who really got into the spirit of it. By the end of the day he was practically running the show!

Just realised partington isn't even in afl.com.au's top 25 for their phantom draft, I wonder what made him slip so much.

I suspect that they look at him and don't see any single outstanding attribute that is afl elite.

Although I think sometimes just being able to touch the ball 25+ times is an attribute that is overlooked. But I guess sometimes you can question whether they can do that at a higher level. Tom Hurley comes to mind. But I like partington and suspect he goes just before our pick sadly but would love to nab him at pick 32.

Mitchell has been a very good SANFL player.

What do we need in our team though?

Moore will probably go so thats
X1 big bodied mid who can actually play to potentially help out wines
X1 ruckman - stocks are thin with lobbe and ryder in our best 22 then relying on a 2nd year ruckman in frampton next year isnt going to work at all
X1 outside mid who can kick and is taller than 185 preferably. Arguably already filled this need with toump so lower down on the list.
X1 small crumbing forward to develop; amon is kind of developing in this role in the sanfl but thats about it and i think the club sees him as an efficient kicking mid in the future

All I want with our couple of picks are a couple of mids that can kick. Inside/outside, I dont care, just a couple of mids that have good skills.

If Lobbe stays I think that's exactly what we will target.

If we re going a mid sized player then I hope we take one with blistering speed and has an AFL average kick ie if he is a mid and the AFL average kicking efficiency disposal for a mid is 62%, then that is the sort of kicking efficiency he is cable of achieving. At pick 32 we wont get someone with blistering speed and a great kick.

What we need:

We are probably 1 ruckman short now on our list, you'd think we'll try and rookie list someone.

We are desperately lack midfield depth and quality, and this lack of depth due to continual late draft picks and mediocre drafting is destined to come back to get us. I think we need to be looking at pure mids, no more of this half back/forward flank crap. We need to pick up another inside mid and a balanced inside/out mid.

After that the list is reasonably balanced apart from speed. We could probably do with some elite pace on our list.

So for mine:
Pick 32 - Praying for someone like Clayton Oliver.
Pick 49 - Best mid available.

Rookie draft - 1 ruck, 2 the best available player and 3 a mature aged pickup (I'd personally love to give Kirkwood a try)

My boy Jordan Snadden will be there at 32;
Mid size - 190cm tick
blistering speed - 2.94 20m sprint (top 10), 24.54 30m repeat sprint (top 6) tick
AFL average kick - 21/30: 70% (equal 4th; the highest score was 24) tick

and just for the sake of it equal 4th clean hands (26/30) and did well in the jumps

I hope he is better than the YT highights

Pass

Parfitt, Rioli or Ferreira

A slider at 32 (hopefully Burton, but I don't think that'll happen at all), Jordan Dawson at 49 and then the late pick to upgrade S Gray. I'd be happy with our offseason.

When I wrote up my best XXII the last position I filled was the small FP. Monfries (too slow), Neade (goes missing), Amon (more a midfielder) were contenders. I went with White but I want a Rioli or Milera or AhChee from the draft. All likely to go top 20, is there someone on the next rung who can play this role?

Blake Hardwick (181cm, 78kg forward from Eastern Ranges):
There are a handful of small forwards who will be around the mark in the third round, Hardwick being one - and also the leading goal scorer in the TAC Cup after two massive games of 8 and 10 goals. Unlike the others though, Hardwick is more of a marking small forward.

Hisham Kerbatieh (177cm, 77kg forward from Calder Cannons):
Kerbatieh on the other hand is probably one of the more natural crumbing forwards in the draft, even though it's not the strongest draft group in that regard. He hasn't had a particularly consistent season, but he's gradually been getting better as the season has gone on. And he's also pushed up the ground a little more too.

Davin Ferreira (174cm, 68kg forward from Wanderers):
The small forward from the NT moved down to SA to board and play football this year, and had a remarkable start to SANFL League football with Norwood.
