We've gone ahead and got permission from the AFL for a player train with us before the draft.

Some guy called Kane Mitchell was approved, I reckon we might get him in the rookie draft.

It never would have occurred to me that Mitchell/the club would have needed permission for him to train with us given the scenario of having been with us and our declaration we'd like him back. C'est la vie.

I think the same thing happened 2 years ago with Renouf.

Tha AFL are anal about everything. mainly for legal reasons, eg what happens if he tears his ACL, his contract terminated on 31st October, but the AFL love to have full control.

5aa reporting that Gorringe to sign with Carlton.
Hmm makes our decision to get rid of both Moore and Mitchell look strange now. We must be contemplating running with a spare spot on our list this year.

Would've thought that all indications were that we won't use 3 draft picks and that the last spot would probably look to take a backup ruck.

Yeah agreed, there must be something i am missing.

Just how many backup rucks do we need? Ignoring we have 2 1st choice rucks in Lobbe and Ryder we already have Dixon, Westhoff and Trengove as backups in our 1st 22. Then there's Frampton in the SANFL.

Frampton ain't ready. Dixon won't go near the ruck and if we are left at one point with Westhoff and Trengove as our main ruckmen then our list management has been poor.

It's certain the club should bring in some ruck depth. At the moment 2 ruck injuries could kill an entire season, we can't go in that underprepared. Chuck one backup on the list in case of emergency and our list is well placed.

Who is going to help Frampton in the ruck at SANFL level? (Unless we plan to play Lobbe there)

Butcher and Howard can't ruck. Jon Ross is still finding his way in the Academy team.

We can't make a 19 year old do all the ruck work by himself.

I heard he has a unique blend of speed and endurance.

Rookie Mark Jamar unless it looks like he will get picked by another club as a DFA.

You make a good point. Redden's body must be really totally shot, otherwise he would have been perfect for a Logan type rookie list mentor.
But anyway you see it, Lobbe probably will play a few games in the Maggies. Billy and Ross to ruck the rest.

Doubtless Dixon could play in ruck but that is not what we got him for. Look at our list and we have one less genuine ruckman than we had last year, two if you include Harvey. There is also the WADA thing hanging about and if Ryder gets suspended we will rely on Lobbe again. Westhoff has never really impressed me as a ruckman and Trengove is our tallest defender.

Then there is RossFC's point about our SANFL depth.

I would have thought it was pretty obvious that we need another genuine ruckman on our list.

Yep Brett Anderson and Ben Casanella of Inside Football/SEN reckon 5 academy kids will be picked up in the 1st round and another in 2nd before our pick which turns 32 into 38 and reckon we will take White. All those early academy picks means others will be knocked out and 49 becomes 43 and has us taking Jack "Strop" Cornell.

I think they call him Jock so maybe his nickname should be Jock "Strap" Cornell. :p

People fret too much here. "We missed out on the worst ruck on an AFL list so now we won't have any ruck depth and a 19yo will have to shoulder the ruck in the SANFL".

There is still plenty of time to get a 'break glass' ruckman.

Has good speed. Did a 2.98 20m sprint at the combine. Bombed in the endurance and kick testing though.

So his talent manager isn't the best judge? :p

What do you think of Darcy Cameron? Has been mentioned as a mature age WAFL prospect and looked a good pure ruck even in his u18 days. Still young. Worth a rookie spot?

WAFL mature age prospects

Darcy Cameron (Claremont)

Age: 20

Position: Ruckman/key forward

2015 WAFL average numbers: 17 hit-outs, 10 disposals and 4 marks from 11 matches (11 goals overall)

AS A pure ruckman, Cameron as overlooked by AFL clubs over the past two years. But in 2015, he added another dynamic to his game, playing — and impressing — a lot more in the forward line. And it might have put him back on the draft radar. As well as averaging 17 hit-outs per game (including a whopping 61 in Round 18), Cameron booted 11 goals from 11 games. At 204cm and 104kg, Cameron is an agile big man with excellent skills and provides a solid marking target around the ground.

He's probably the one i'm most keen on. There are one or two others I wouldn't mind either.

Ah yes. When the first three or four are incapacitated our preparedness will pay off.
