"The West Australian understands the Eagles have acted by improving McGovern’s pay on his existing contract, but are yet to move on a further contract extension."
Highly frustrating - would have been good to do both at the same time

Reward the bloke for his efforts thus far as a sign of good faith and lock him in long term

Hopefully the bye sees a contract extension for him and simmo

Not sure , Rich doesn't look fit ATM , heard the coach Justin Leppitsh say that Daniel 's form issue needs to be looked at 50/50 by the coach and Daniel .... Daniel needs to bring his 50% .

Our second and a player I would think !
Sounds like as said a change of enviroment maybe just what the doctor ordered

Not the player we need, i wouldn't think. Not versatile enough, too short with abnormally short arms, and not fast ... not the modern prototype footballer. No thanks!

Do you think its morally wrong for us to pay brisbane lots of money under the table to be west coasts development club for midfielders?

Or just **** it - whatever it takes

How much would you offer him and for how long?
No idea.. id guess you would need to offer him around the 450K mark and 3 years for him to be interested. Considering the move to WA comes at a premium you could add another 100-150K and another year on.

Average wage for an AFL player is around 350K i believe?

Average wage for an AFL player was $283k last year. Graph at bottom of link shows steady decline in numbers of players in each $100k breakdown after the 300k mark.

Also regarding the conversation a couple of pages back about potential salary cap issues, the Cap has increased 4.5 per cent this year and will increase again next year by the same amount (around 900k in total). I wonder if this has already been committed.

I would hope we are not looking at increasing or even matching Selwood's current salary. With a young side, we will need to prioritise who is getting what and possibly make some tough calls on a few players seeking dollars above there value to the team. At this stage Selwood may be the first to fit this category, particularly noting injury's, that he has not been in great form, and that he definitely no longer justifies himself on the salary of a restricted free agent. I would rather sink this cash on coniglio who is a better player, has more upside and we would get a few more years out of.

550k-600k, 4 years. with that kind of contract and at the age of 27, that would be enough for first round compo wouldn't it?

Lycett plus our first for Bennell is probably a little overs. We'd need a 2nd round upgrade or something in that deal IMO.

Lycett still has value. But it's dropping considerably with each game he sits in the WAFL.
When is the last time he played in the WAFL? Not on injury list. Seems to have done a vanishing act.

Pretty sure giving Lycett a new contract last year, we'll back him in to EARN a spot.
Almost no chance we'd trade him when his currency is low + contracted.

Geelong would want the moon for Motlop, (they can have that of course)
Selwood free agency doesn't help us there even if a restricted free agent.
