Be interested in your views as to which players from the two grand finals played well in both, played well in one and played well in none.

My instinct would be kennedy and buddy in category 1, grundy in category 2 and the rest of the two times grand finalists in cat 3.
Based on salary isnt tippett suppose to be the difference in the big ones

Nothing mire than a basketballer playing aussie rules
No idea how to play as a lead up forward etc

Tippett won't be on as much now as he was on his previous "lucrative four year contract' !

You'll all remember this article.
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-02-...an-for-life-as-contract-automatically-extends

Pay particular attention to this part.
"The lucrative four-year contract Tippett signed when he crossed to the Swans from Adelaide was set to expire at the end of 2016.
But AFL.com.au can reveal that Tippett, 28, has satisfied trigger clauses in that contract which have earned him a new two-year deal."
New means new! Swans wouldn't have signed him on similar money to the original 4 years knowing full well Buddy's contract would increase at this time.

This new contract was more about extra years for Tippett & not big money.

"It's a great result when you put performance-based incentives in contracts and the player activates them. They get rewarded with the security of a couple of extra years and that's been the case with Kurt," Harley said.

Harley reinforced this yesterday when asked about Tippett & he questioned the speculation of contracts & that the detail of it was between player, manager & club.

Steele for a 2nd rounder to saints
It will be interesting to see if he is an O'Rourke/Anderson, a shit player in a good team or he is actually a good player.

Good get for the Saints I reckon.

Losing a GF is disappointing at the best of times but all of the above magnified the disappointment because although I was not cocky about us winning I thought we had them covered. I suppose having them covered came with a Proviso and that was that if our topliners played well they weren't beating us. If this was the case even the umpires would not have stopped us because our topend talent would have been too much for them. Not the case though they won and I am still scratching my head on on how the **** they did even though we had so many down on the day the game was still winnable. Move on though and make sure we go one better and the group get out of themselves what they are capable of and deserve.
Spot on. I feel exactly the same. The future beckons our boys......but they need to make it happen.

They couldn't stand up to the pace of GWS and Bulldogs. We lost 4 out of 5 games against them this year. Unless we fix that we won't improve.
The outside runners did hurt us...that's true. But strangely, it was us losing the contested ball/stoppages and butchering the ball which enabled them to use their outside pace. If we have the ball, they can run as fast as they like for all I care. Sam Mitchell and Greg Williams would be the slowest centremen ever....yet both dictated games by their ball winning ability. We not only have to address pace, but the reason why Parker and Hanners disappear for periods of big games. JPK was always brilliant after Mummy had created a pathway of bodies and body parts. If Nank had a tank he could be very helpful to our on ballers. It's not all about pace. If we win the ball and maintain possession by clinical delivery...then pace is not so crucial. GWS have our measure. The Dogs....not quite. They have beaten us - but by bare margins and the wrestle has been pretty even.

Yet that tippett

The overpaid one that got his arse handed to him by a kid a few weeks back

2 poor GF under his belt
If we're jusging players on only big game appearances & exculding their contribution across a season then I'm with you. However he showed this year he can be AA ruck injuries permitting IMO. I'd rather have him there the next few years with the young kids lining up behind him instead of making Naisy, Nank or Sinclair carry 1st ruck all year themselves.

So many on here have short memories, before he did his hammy the same people were hailing him as All-Australian and one of our most valuable players along with JPK.

Can't speak for anyone else but as I said I rate him. It is not about moving on a spud.

It makes structural sense for the team in trading him now while he has currency and we have clearly shown we can cover his spot adequately along with freeing up a chink of cap space

Not overly sure it counts. Buddy was playing with two separate injuries, and Tippett would have been beaten by Zac Dawson based on his finals form. My point was that they didn't rely on key defenders, and didn't have an outstanding key defender for basically the whole year. As for their forward line, take out Boyd and they're practically a bunch of smaller half forward types. Key players can surprisingly be not-key (if that's a word) in big games.
Yes that is the case...but they can also be devastating. Carey killed us in the third quarter of the 96 grannie. Brereton , Mew, Glendinning, Doull, Salmon, Rhys Jones...KPF and KPD can win grannies on their own. Our KPF's did no harm on the scoreboard in this year's grannie and that was our team's greatest harm.

Trade wins i think

Dont make it to hard im just a tradie mate

When you did Hodge's driveway you overcharged him didn't yah.

Please tell me its true. I need some good news.

I would say Mumford has been a bigger loss than Mitchell would anyone agree?
Mummy has never been replaced. A big bodied, mean enforcer mid fielder - if we'd had Mummy in 2014 and 16, and he'd played like a banshee - the world would have been a different place. Mummy's problem is that the way he p[lays - he breaks down far too often. Have we missed him??? Absolutely. If a young Mummy was available you would take him in a heartbeat.

Not saying you have, but this is the exact same scenario that posters on here are blasting and laughing at Hawthorn for doing with Mitchell and Lewis to get in Tom and JOM. I just find some people (again not directed at you, just decided to reply to your post) on here a little hypocritical that they judge other clubs harshly for their list management strategies then throw up the same trade arguments as prudent and good list management for us.

I agree on the cap space aspect but whilst Naismith and to a degree Nankervis showed promise and potential neither performed anywhere near the level that Tippett did prior to his hamstring injury. Trading out a proven performer for young guys who have shown promise and potential is incredibly risky, our Swans BF whipping boy Sam Reid was signed to a long-term deal on his 'potential'. Ask Swans BF list experts Swansrule100 and Punts what they think of his performances against his 'potential'? ... :D

If we were to trade Tippett I'll back the club in, but with Naismith signed personally I'd keep Tippett over Nanka everyday of the week and twice on Sunday's but thats just my opinion.
