Dodoro will now have had time to see all the Phantoms and will side with them, for fear of ridicule and will duly take McGrath. :)
Maybe the lowest risk player in this draft, so I see him going down this path.

If we somehow did have a choice between McCluggage and Petrevski-Seton, I wonder which one we'd take.

On Dodoro and McGrath, the poor dodo would have been getting hammered from pillar to post...Ex EFC Robert Shaw his school coach...Ex EFC Ryan O'Conner his Sandy coach...Ex EFC David Flood his Metro coach...then you got Woosha hounding him to get him a plug and go.

Poor ol Dodo probably just had to relent.

Then he should go full Shane Rogers and pick Ridley..........just for a laugh :)

I'm probably being too harsh and overly critical, but is anyone else put off by Ainsworth's personality?

I remember in the 'Going Places' article them mentioning some of his team mates and coaches thought he was arrogant and didn't really click with him and he had a bad attitude when injured that was rubbing his teammates the wrong way. Apparently he didn't mean it, it was just perception.

Watched some of the videos on AFL website where draftees answer those questions and i can't recall him cracking a smile or joke at all...was stony faced unlike the others who all at least cracked a smile.

Also nominated Brisbane as a place he'd like to play at...i can see him fitting in with the likes of Rockliff, Zorko, Beams etc lol

Can imagine passing on a player like Steve Johnson or Jason akermanis because they were a dick or rubbed guys up the wrong way. If he is deemed to be a good footballer with a burning desire to succeed and win I don't care if no one else likes him.

I think Brodie will win the rising Star next year, I also think SPS will be the stand out player after 10 years.
Drew's kicking worries me.

That is actually WAFL Colts (U18) Jeremias. There is a huge difference between WAFL Colts & WAFL.

Well there you go - my mistake. But the point still stands regardless.

Nothing SPS produced at any level this year could fairly equate to him being labelled a flashy outside player.

Drew's lack of agility for a mid worries me.

Doesn't really have any standout features either. He's hard at the ball and tackles well but his disposal is iffy and he's a little one-paced.

Looks the type to play well at Under 18 level but there must be some concern for how well he'll transition into an AFL player. I personally can't see what value he'll bring long-term.

To me SPS is the most rounded footballer in this draft. There is nothing he can't do. And if he didn't have hamstring problems then I think he would be in the conversation for the 1st picked. I hear his character is outstanding. Captained his WAFL 18's side I think but I could be wrong.

Yeap agree 100%. Kid has played senior footy at 16yo and had no problem with the bigger bodies.
Out of all the players expected to go in the top 5, IMO SPS has the best disposal and is a genuine midfielder.
Plays with pace, evasiveness, elite kicking skills and also a willingness to do the hard stuff.
Very much a complete package.

Darcy Parish is the same size And he goes ok inside and out.

Yep Lachie Neale from Freo is only 176cm and is one of the top contested ball winners in the league, Jack Viney 178cm Cyril Rioli 177cm the list goes on.
This obsession with height is so over rated, if your good enough your tall enough IMO.

For those comparing SPS's size with Darcy Parish and Neale. It is also important to compare their pre-draft stats. Both of those players got near twice the amount of the ball.

I agree to an extent. Players sub 180cm can be very good players. However, which midfielders stand up and dominate when the game is on the line...

Dangerfield - 189cm
Josh P. Kennedy - 188cm
Pendlebury - 191cm
Bontempelli - 192cm
Fyfe - 190cm
Cripps - 195cm
D. Martin - 187cm
Parker - 183cm

Not saying the sub 180cm player list doesn't contain some fine players. I'd just rather have these taller mids as they seem to influence through the midfield more and aren't as limited position wise. They can go forward or back and still influence. Not sure a Lachie Neale type can do much more than win the clearance.

It all comes down to the hammies. Were they the reason for drifting in and out of games and his overall poor 2016 numbers? Is it bad luck or something else? Will they hold him back at AFL level?

My preference is to pick up:

1 Balanced mid -
SPS, Taranto @5
Mutch, Parfitt @25
Fisher @48
1 KPP -
Kerr, Himmelberg, Rotham @48
Sproule, Maibaum, Eddy @63+
1 Small Forward -
Lebois @48
Stengle, Jarman, L. Ryan, W. Rioli @63+
1 Inside Mid -
Drew, Clarke, Scheer, Gallucci @25
Atley, Scharenberg @48
J. Bolton, Guelfi, Hinge @63+
1 Mid/Forward -
S. Bolton, Berry @25 Begley, Poholke, J. Williams @48
Lyons, Junker, Kerbetiah @63+

Ideal Draft:

SPS @ 5
Mutch @ 25
Atley @ 48
Sproule @63
Stengle @ 66
Junker @70

It's a shorter draft in many ways, but I really rate SPS and Mutch's ball use, Atley's toughness, Sproule's potential, Stengle's game instinct (has that predator like ability to snap up the ball and create out of nowhere) and the athletic profile of Junker.
Yeah, Mutch could be a serious contender @ 25, all the more reason to bid on Setterfield @5 to make it easier to shake a few of the academy boys free. Maybe BA and CT are just linking us to Drew because he is Gleeson's nephew.
