Does anyone have a list of all the FA this year? Just curious to see if there's any worth going after (a part from the obvious 2 that we're already linked too)
I wouldn't mind betting they are hoping to land a few more FAs at the end of next year. If they end up trading for Danger and giving away more than one pick, I would consider it a fairly strong sign that they are confident of developing the list further in the next few years without the aid of the draft.

That was my thought.

The Hawks did it with a new addition or 2 over a 3 year period. Targeted needs and it worked perfectly for them.

Hopefully we taste a similar result at the end of it all.

This is exactly what I have been thinking. We have a lot of players going and very few picks and not many good ones at that. Unless SJ needed to be moved on re salary cap pressure because we know we are getting Danger, Scooter and Henderson. Otherwise it makes little sense to me.
SJ needed to be moved on because they want to move in a new direction. He is too slow for the midfield and his unpredictability is not what they need with the young players comming through. Menzel will essentially take SJ place in the forward line & Bartel may spend more time there with his marking ability. Don't worry about the number of places they have to fill, the last few spots is not what will win us a premiership in the next 2 or 3 years. Pretty sure anyway that they will still manage to end up with about 3 picks in the top 60 plus possibly a rookie upgrade & 4 or 5 trades in. They are likely to get late 2nd or 3rd round picks for Jansen & Kesten, & Walker involved in the Henderson deal.

They are certainly going for it. A flag before Selwood, Hawks et al are done.

The way I see it, even with Danger and Hendo etc, absolutely everything would have to go right for us next year to win the flag. Our top 6-8 would be up there but we will lack depth while the young kids develop, and a few injuries would see us struggle again.

I am hoping that their conviction with regards to this plan is partly derived from one or both of the following:

1. Wells and rates highly the youth already on our list

2. They are confident of snagging a few further FAs next year to increase the core of 24-28 year olds and improve depth etc.

I imagine Geelong will take a punt on some delisted free agents on single year deals. With so many list spaces why not? Will have to wait see who us available but as always there will be a couple in the next couple of weeks worth a 1 year minimum deal. Hopefully.

they have a coaching staff that is always thinking outside the box and evolving.
Even if we had half their list, our game style wouldn't cut it. We'd have got smashed by Fremantle in Perth a few weeks ago as we always do against Fremantle.

i was thinking how great it was for those 6 hawks to grab that photo as the 4 time premiership players yesterday which made me daydream about our group.

if by some chance we get up next year I believe we will have just 4 blokes on this list who would make the 4 club; bartel, enright, mackie and selwood.

So 2 fewer, however it would put our group 2 years further apart for the first and last premierships too, so in terms of list turn over, pretty similar i think, so for those of us thinking we are clearing the decks whilst the hawks are staying together, perhaps the difference isn't as stark as we think.

If like to think I won't waste my time listening to trade radio. But I know I will I cant help myself. Just as I keep checking back on these threads. When I know there won't be any more news.
I'm really hoping that they get Wells on the road to the draft podcasts. It's been informative listening to the other list managers/recruiters. Would love to hear from Wells.

I hope we are going to continue to target free agents. There are a few names that will be free agents next year that'd be very handy.
Goldstein
Sidebottom
Rich
Geary
Armitage
Hannebery
Nick Smith
Shane Edwards
Masten
Schofield
But there is a lot of time to pass until then bs I'm sure many of those will sign new contracts at their existing club. Still I hope the club has identified a couple to talk to. There was talk last year or the year before we were interested in Smith and Geary.

Murda has to play up front. His kicking into the forward line is what we need
Yes he's a great player kicks great goals such amazing pace. Will only get better would be terrible to lose him worthy of a top 10 pick. (Are you listening Adelaide?)

A few of those already re-signed eg. Hannebery. Schofield may be logical for us given his origins, WCE likely to have surplus talls when injuries come back, and we'll still need big defender depth as Lonergan wanders out and Taylor ages.

Honesty here now. Ive been watching all the footy shows. The same topic always comes up. Who is the better team or had the better era. The obvious three teams come up Hawks, Cats and Lions.

I think the lions rank 3rd and it comes down to the hawks and cats. There are both pros and cons as to should be the G.O.A.T of the modern era.

What are the Geelong supporters view on this topic.

Probably you guys, just based on consistency, we had the better players but you have a better team. I say to a lot of people there aren't a heap of legendary players at Hawthorn, just a bunch of blokes that work hard and whose disposal is absolutely elite.

to be honest though very hard to compare any sides. Footy is always on the improvement, that brisbane team was something bloody fearce I tell ya

Does modern era matter?

Hawks easily over the past 15 years.
Melbourne are still the best ever. In my opinion.

And in 50 years people will ask who was the best. Not current era.

To me there is a distinction between 'team' and 'club'.

No one can argue Hawthorn has been the best club. They have achieved the most success, largely due to having great players of course but more importantly because Al Clarkson is a mastermind and their recruiting and player management has been without peer. They have made the absolute most of their opportunities, timing their run to perfection, coinciding with the the expansion of the comp.

While Hawthorn is a champion team however, the other two were like teams of champions, with freakier talent. Brisbane got the 3-peat done while playing better quality teams than the opposition Hawthorn has faced, and while playing away from home far more often than Hawthorn did. While Geelong was equally talented and recorded an all-time high winning percentage across 100, and then 200 games. Geelong ultimately underachieved with the squad they had.

just watched the 2011 hightlights package.
you can see why they are so keen for vardy and menzel to be up and about along with duncan(and christensen).

assuming the whole list is fit, who are your LOCK players?

Mine would be;

J. Selwood, Dangerfield, Taylor, Hawkins, Duncan, Motlop, Menzel.

When was the last time Bartel took an overhead mark? been a few seasons. He is twice as slow as johnson and is a massive liability

Geelong ahead last year. Hawks now easily in front.

Imagine what geelong would have done if we had clarkson in charge of our list

As for the ruck - somebody mentioned Lobbe. What's his availability like? He's struggled to work well with Ryder this season, but before this year he was a gun. If Burger wants to play in the big smoke and Zmith is too expensive - I wouldn't be opposed to throwing a R1 at Lobbe.

EDIT: 27 at the start of next year. R1 probably too much. Hard to pick his value...
Connors says Zsmith likely to be at the Cats next year. Also mentioned Lobbe is open to a move elsewhere...
