Surprised Jarrod Berry isn't talked about more on this board. I'm for more confident that he projects as the centre square midfielder we need then some of the others.

Tall, athletic, strong overhead, elite ball user. He seems a perfect fit for our pick

Like the look of Daniel Venables. Looks like he enjoys tough contested footy and has a bit of mongrel. Clean with the ball and a bit of pace.

Like what I hear of settle field though I haven't seen him in action he sounds like a mid we could use and well worth a bid

When fit he's played as a genuine utility this season. Equal amounts of time back, forward and through the midfield. He was an U18 AA back flank last year.

My concern with the other options likely to be around our pick, in Ainsworth and McGrath, is that we haven't been able/willing to turn Hartlett and Wingard into full time midfielders. I'd rather not end up with another 179cm flanker no matter how good they are.

Who said berry is an elite ball user? People seem to say the opposite.

I think it's generally accepted that he's a good ball user by foot. I haven't seen or heard anything to suggest otherwise.

Ben Ainsworth is the worry in that regard. Great skills at times be he's been using the ball at 56% at TAC cup level.

Bit of a funny draft as there are several players who haven't quite stepped up as expected after good underage years, Berry, or have been injured, Simpkin.

If the rumours of the three way trade are true and we end up with pick six and eight, will be interesting to see if we go for Marshall and a midfielder or two mids. There would be every chance that two of McGrath, Ainsworth, Marshall, SPS and Venables are available at our pick.

I'd be annoyed if we picked up Ainsworth. Sub-180cm, flanker who can play midfield rather than an actual midfielder, poor endurance, poor disposal efficiency, tries to play taller than he is. You couldn't pick a guy whose strengths line up with what we already have and whose weaknesses line up with areas which we desperately need to improve if we tried.

Would Matt Dea be worth a look? Looked ok at Essendon this year, and is available in the draft now that he has finished as a top-up.

For me Mids like Brodie and mcluggage will definitely be gone. Sps very likely gone but I think he really could use a damaging ball user like sps.

Marshall , Ainsworth or McGrath would be good for us. Ideally I think we need outside mids with good ball use or an inside mid that can use the ball so mcluggage and sps are really the mids we need but both would be out of our reach. This draft is apparently strong with inside mids and weak with outside mids.

Pat Kerr named full forward in the TAC Cup team of the year.

Brett Blair may be another we could look at as a 3rd tall. 35 goals from 13 games, but is only 189cm. Good hands and has a huge leap on him

Pass on Blair. His one game at the champs was real bad. The two leading goalscorers in the TAC Cup were 19 year olds that got overlooked last year.

Strange about Kerr. Kicked 10 goals in 6 games, only named in the best players once.
