When I've watched him, he's been a stopper on key forwards, just has the ability to get ball himself. It's hard to tell who's on who with regard to key positions this game - none of them are really getting involved.

Who's the best KPD out there?

Griffin Logue is probably the best KPD in the draft. Cox and Maibaum I like as well. There's a lot of 190-192cm defenders this year. No real big key defenders.

Good work Ken Hinkley/recruiting department. We've seen the astronomical difference a gun KPD can have on a team and we sat on our hands as Carlile started falling a part and now we enter a draft that lacks what we need most.

We only have the four true key defenders, so I don't know about depth. They're all young and look good though. We'll need to draft one to develop, whether it's this draft or next, who knows.

We need a reliable defender in the mold of a Rance, Talia or a Weitering on top of the defenders we have. We concede ~18 points more per game and score ~18 points less than the top teams, that gap needs to be eliminated.

It's incredibly rare and difficult to get a Rance, Talia or Weitering and apart from Weitering, they take years to develop. Who knows with Austin, he's started his career well.

Look how badly we did when we lost Trengove and Carlile from defense. Our depth is wafer thin.

At least with Essendon he's going to a club that isn't stocked with other young talent. Their list is shit, but should rebound to the 9-13 range next year to not get another year of really good picks. They are still going to go off a cliff in 2 - 3 years due to earlier draft penalties.

Look how badly we did when we lost Trengove and Carlile from defense. Our depth is wafer thin.

Hombsch, Austin, Trengove and Clurey are better placed then we were back then.
I wouldnt have carlile in front of any of them and trengove now well down in the backlines pecking order also!
