How do you think Jarrod Lienert would go as a rookie? I don't care how raw he is, a 22 year old 195cm wingman is worth the discussion. And all these top end picks, pick themselves. Its not how good your best player is, its how good your worst player is. That's what wins premierships.

If we did get Lienert, it would continue the tradition of sons of former SANFL players being recruited by the club:

*Craig Ebert
*Derek Bonner
*Gary Tredrea
*Graham Cornes

From watching the first half of the U18 match, I'd be more than comfortable grabbing Taranto with our first pick. Smooth operator up forward and in the midfield.

If we also draft a KPF, I hope to god it isn't Marshall. Just does not get near it, lacks effort, and will take a long time to develop. Josh Battle offers a lot more, and could develop into the role Schulz was playing.

Edit: it is absolute bullshit that Essendon will be rewarded with Hugh McLuggage.

I just don't get the 'the punishment has to stop at some point' line of argument.

It's not even an argument! Yes, they should stop being punished at some point. Why can't that point be after the draft? You know, when the players' suspensions end?

I didn't see it, but let's say we ended up with picks 9, 10 and 24.

What's the realistic best we can hope for?

Well I see the top 8 as

1 McCluggage
2 McGrath
3 SPS
4 Brodie
5 Ainsworth
6 Bowes
7 Taranto
8 Schrimshaw

Then there are some academy picks like Perryman and Setterfield who we may bid on but not get.

So we are likely to be left with the next rung of players like Drew Venebles English Marshall Florent Battle at 9 and 10. At 24 it would be Scharenberg or Graham or Parfit.

Best case would be SPS and Scrimshaw at 9 & 10. Giving us skillful inside and outside mid. Then Marshall falling to 24.

Still think we'll take Marshall with our first

Will be perplexed if we don't take the best midfielder available with our 1st round pick.

1. Sam Petrevski-Seton - 181cm, 76kg midfielder from Claremont
2. Andrew McGrath - 179cm, 75kg midfielder/defender from Sandringham Dragons
3. Hugh McCluggage - 185cm, 75kg midfielder from North Ballarat Rebels
4. Will Brodie - 187cm, 80kg midfielder from Murray Bushrangers
5. Ben Ainsworth - 179cm, 74kg midfielder/forward from Gippsland Power
6. Tim Taranto - 186cm, 82kg forward/midfielder from Sandringham Dragons
7. Daniel Venables - 186cm, 81kg midfielder from Western Jets

Sps is too good to make it to 9.

Marshall is too bad to take at 9.

Bolton looked good enough to be top ten.

I'd take English over Marshall anytime.

Powell pepper would be great at 24.

Would have been nice to see Venables.

Florent plays a lot of afl games.

Scharenberg ran out horribly to the right when he had a shot at goal. Nice tackler. No confidence in his skills.

Hayward and Davis are worth a shot later in the draft.

Its still so up in the air. All of Brodie, Taranto, Ainsworth, Sps could be as high as 2 or could slip to our first. And theres still English who could go as high as 3. Its gonna be shaped by the bids

And team needs. It seems players like Marshall could go in a ten pick range.

Apologies as I've not seen any U18s footy this year. I'd hope our first pick would be an inside mid.

If the Hartlett trade for something around pick 10 was to go through, What KPF would be around there?

Also any development KPD's around our 3rd pick?

Larkey and Korewha will be there late. Keen on Larkey, not sure about Korewha.

Someone like Maibaum may slide

Assuming no slide from SPS or Brodie, I'd actually be happy with any of the highly rated academy mids at 9. Bid on Bowes. If they match, bid on Setterfield. If they match, bid on Perryman. If they match, bid on Scheer.

If we get one of them, great, they're all very good prospects. And even if we don't get any of them, at least we've drained GC and GWS' pick pool. Then bid on Kobe Mutch with a second rounder if he's still there.

Excluding academy & f/s players:

KPF

Todd Marshall - 197cm, 87kg forward from Murray Bushrangers - 1st round

Josh Battle - 192cm, 90kg forward from Dandenong Stingrays - 2nd round

Patrick Kerr - 194cm, 93kg forward from Oakleigh Chargers - 2nd/3rd round

KPD

Jack Scrimshaw - 193cm, 80kg defender from Sandringham Dragons - 1st round

Brennan Cox - 194cm, 90kg defender/forward from Woodville West Torrens - 2nd/3rd round

Griffin Logue - 193cm, 92kg defender from Swan Districts - 3rd/4th round

I don't think there is much to worry about with pick 9.

McCluggage
Petroski-Seton
Bowes - gc
Brodie
Ainsworth
McGrath
Taranto
English
Berry

happy with any.

that's 9.

wildcards
Bolton
Venables

happy to take the risk. wish venables played.

then there's
Setterfield -gws
Scrimshaw
Florent

seem like low risks
