And secondly, the Academy points loop hole is closed, so there won't be the sort of deals that we saw last year.
Didn't know that. How did they change it?

Original picks only seems a big rule change if in fact that is a new rule.

Geelong's list is definitely not improving... the retirement of Enright cancels anything they could get from this period with the currency they have.

Hawks are similar... their KPPs are now average, rucks are crap, midfield needs that boost... and JO'M is an enormous risk (knee) to give up a 1st plus hefty change. There's only so far so many excellent flankers can take you.

They're grasping as one last flag before they plunge to the bottom... I think Geelong have missed their chance, and both clubs lists are likely to be awful in 2 or 3 years time.

We're in a good spot - our long suffering fans just need to keep being patient - as hard as it is!

That's interesting, as I have Geelong as second favourites next year behind GWS. I think Enright was done. His pace was slowing to a crawl, and another season would have exposed him down back. I think if they get in Deledio and Tuohy, and lose a Motlop in the process, then I see their list improving slightly, which will be enough to get them thereabouts again next year or two. I think they will snare a flag while Dangerfield is there.

As for the Hawks, yes, a lot depends on how much the O'Meara risk pays off. But if it does, they will be contending again soon enough. They have arguably the best coaching staff, good players wanting to be traded there and a winning culture. And Adelaide will also improve with Gibbs. I can't see the top 6 changing at all tbh. Sydney will remain strong and Western Bulldogs scarily will only get better. West Coast and North are the two likely to drop out of the 8, then you have 6 teams outside the 8 contending to take their spots. I like where we are at, I'd just like to see a couple more elite ball users through the midfield. I would love to see us throw everything we can at Fyfe next year. I really hope Freo stay bottom 4. I think he'll be gettable, especially if we keep improving.

They can now only go into the draft with as many picks as there are spots on their list. So where last year a GWS went into the draft with about 10 picks, they'll be limited, so there is no point in them trade a single early pick for a handful of late ones worth more in points, as they'll be unlikely to be valid

I like how points of view can be so different. Enright was AA this year. I think if they lose Motlop for Deledio... i think they lose. Motlop, while flakey, kicked 39 goals this year. And Deledio only played 11 games.

Its a huge risk... i can see why theyre doing it... but the outcome will be ugly.

Motlop got 39 goals, at least half were junk time cheapies over the back. Stick an accountable small defender on him like Jetta and he's useless. Also too much of a pudding to put in any midfield time.

Lids... well like you said.... he's great if he's on the park. Same as JOM, if they can manage those issues they might get a good player.

Here's a thought...

Why don't we lowball Geelong for Motlop? Future 2nd?

First of all: "Computer says no".

Secondly. That just doesn't sound like Melbourne. Usually we are the ones getting reamed not the other way round. Like with every other trade period.

Id do that. As long as Jeffy and Motlop alternated weeks off. If they both decide to have an off games at the same time it could be a disaster!

Can someone tell me what this means and WTF it has to do with trade talk? He hasn't extended his contract or something?

They must have had his manager on Trade Radio earlier and just asked about him and where he is at. When you're on air for 9 hours in a day and so little is happening in the early stages, they need to pad out the time with something!

Poor reporting on Sam Weideman. Did he extend his contract, if so, for how long ?
Also hoping for some news soon on Dunn/Garland with GWS Patfull retiring.

The 'iron deficiency' thing honestly worries me a bit, unless they've fixed it now.
I'd assume they'd have gotten a nutritionist onto that pretty quickly and addressed it with either just a diet change, or added some supplements to rectify it.

No doubt something that he'll need to monitor, but not a huge issue

Im pretty sure its something you can work around with diet and supplementation. Its just a matter of getting his diet right then he'd be all good.

Source: I am not a professional so what I said could be total BS

What the ****.. Freo got pick 23 for Mayne!!! Thats rubbish. Were going to end up with our first pick being number 52 if they keep throwing out second rounders for spuds

Blame Collingwood for throwing money at a spud and a geriatric.

Can't say we haven't gotten a few good picks this way though, Sylvia, Frawley
