Feels weird having a player choose to come to us
2012: Clark
2013: Dawes
2014: Mitchie, Riley, Cross
2015: Lumumba, Newton
2016: Kennedy, Bugg

Am I the only one concerned that we are offering Lewis a 3 year deal??? He is way past his peak as a footballer. I honestly felt his last year would have been next season along with Mitchell and Hodge, maybe Gibson. He looked slow, I mean really slow towards the end of the season, having less impact on games. Happy to give a third rounder for him, and maybe a 2 year deal, but 3 is excessive.

As for Rockliff, my friend at the Lions says he is zero chance of being at the Dees next season. I have no idea where these rumours start. We've been linked to Danger, Parker, Kennedy, Prestia etc etc over the years and they have all just been rumours. F*** I hate trade period!

The 3 year part is the thing that gets him over the line - I actually don't reckon the club is banking on him playing all 3 years - maybe 2 at most. But a 2 year deal wouldn't have got it done.

This is about bringing in someone who can effectively be a coach on-field, even if only for a year. We're reportedly not going to give up much in terms of picks, so this is the least-risky way to get him into the club.

You'd think if Lewis gets 2 passable years and slows down much more he'll just retire after 2. But 1 year plus trigger would be better in my eyes. I would actually be ok if we agreed to manage him through 15 games a season.... its that level of crunch time polish we just have zero of.

If we delist Newton, its basically like for like. Except Lewis can keep some of the midfielders accountable when they have an extended run of stinkers. Personally, I think guys like Dom Tyson get to go missing for a month at a time without much in the way of best 22 pressure because we've consigned the second string to Casey.

Its no secret we have cap space for the next year or 2, so if this is how we spend it, at least we can get folks in, then in 2 years work out who is taking us forward and who isn't. When Lewis is leaving, that coin will be going straight to Viney, CP, Hogan, Weid and Oliver. Also, how much money have we got wrapped up in useless muppets like Terlich & Lambumba?

Danger and Prestia make sense, we tried to trade for them.

It would be 2 years with triggers for a 3rd I would think and hope.

You don't see any difference between those guys and someone finishing 2nd in a top 4 clubs B&F approaching the club (rather than us approaching him) and choosing us when another club (Gold Coast) had more money on the table and his current team want him to stay on?

Lewis is a list clogging sook gifted the 2nd place in our B&F to boost his trade value from 90 to 89. I hope he gets smashed the first game he plays against us......but most likely he will snipe someone the week before to get suspended...

The best part of the Lewis deal is the late pick part. Hawthorn supporters getting real salty about another player walking out for pick 500. :D

Graham Wright at the trade table:

Happy to get Lewis on the cheap. As others have said, having a bloke who knows how to stay calm in the late stages of a tight game is something we really lack. I assume the 3 years would be a Cross like deal as a transition to a coaching or development role after playing? Anyway, solid pickup.

On Tippett: no thanks; too old and expensive for us. Rockliff: maybe, if he's coming pretty cheaply. Would be good alternating between forward and mid as he can play both positions well. However is also a bit of a hack-it-forward type in the midfield which I'm not sure we really need.

Agree. Our kids need to learn how to win - Lewis is going to offer superb leadership in this area. Takes the pressure off our young kids as well. MFC has a history of overworking their young guns so the slow and steady approach is the lasting approach.

If we trade Lewis for a late pick I'll be stoked. Hating this talk from Hawks supporters re: Hunt and Frost - two non-negotiables as far as I'm concerned.

Any Hawks supporter saying that is a deadshit. It's either a third rounder or a fringe player.

Yes, 4Thorn is falling apart in front of our very eyes!
Just on that, melbounres win last year could of been a catalysts for Lewis. He saw first hand what the future held for us, and what was around the corner for the "Mighty Hawks".
Good decision Lewwy
