How hard is it to walk into an op shop and say “where is the worst tracksuit you have in store?”
That might be tapping the full capacity of some people.

So if your sole job is to cover the AFL, you’re telling me you can’t learn the lists?

That’s a joke considering the starting 18 of most teams are common knowledge, so they can’t learn the rest? They should be sacked.
One other thing worth considering is that our sport has no where near the level of player movement that can be found in other major sports around the world. For example, journalists following Soccer in Europe have to contend with new players coming in from all corners of the globe, every year. Far cry from our sport where the vast majority of new additions to our league come from under our noses in the under-eighteens competitions.

On the whole it shouldn't be all that difficult to have a reasonable amount of knowledge regarding team lists if your profession revolves around this sport. Heck, I've seen more in-depth knowledge of team lists from people who play fantasy football type games than I do from some journalists.

You don’t take guys from forward to defender unless they can’t make it as a forward

If you’re bleeding goals defensively then you shore up your defense and slot a guy like Dear or Keith forward because they’ll be getting fed by our midfield and surrounded / supported by Tex etc which will eleveate them by a fair bit.

‘Defense wins championships’. Who had the better defense last season and in particular on GF day? Us or Richmond?

That doesn't look too bad to me. He has overrated the usual suspects and probably gone a year or two too early on Kelly, Daniher and Heeney but all footy commentators do that with the good young talents. Poor Sam Jacobs has dropped from 20 to 37 since the one Robbo did post last season. He has to be close to the most underrated player of his generation! He is such an unsexy player but exceptionally good.

Cripps at 15? Wow I’d barely have him top 75 at the moment.
