Bendigo Pioneers:

#2 Kane Farrell – I really liked Farrell’s game on the weekend. He is not a huge accumulator of the football but he looks balanced and has good vision through traffic and great hands in close. There were a couple of times where he sidestepped an opponent and delivered it well inside 50 to a leading target. He also showed his versatility to have an impact up forward, kicking a crucial goal late in the third term. The one knock from the weekend was there was an instance or two where he tried to do too much and was caught before he could effectively dispose of it or finish cleanly.

#2 Kane Farrell – Farrell played a tough, inside role throughout the match and had clean hands in tight. He won a number of crucial one-on-ones and showed a good penetrating kick when going inside 50. Farrell booted a goal in the final term when the momentum was against the Pioneers and continued to battle hard. He just does all the defensive things right.

#2 Kane Farrell – Farrell played some resilient football given his team’s performance. He did not let that stop him from playing to his fullest, being one of the few players able to make moving through the Dandenong midfield like child’s play. He laid a tough tackle toward the second quarter and earned a free. He later copped a big knock and lost the ball, but quickly recovered, regained the ball and kicked a monster of a goal. Farrell often ran the ball along the wing, covering the same great ground. He displayed excellent technical ability and composure during some football. When he could assist the play, he did so with focused running and kicking downfield. Farrell stepped up for his team when it seemed like nobody would. Farrell finished the game with six majors, and best on ground for his team.

#2 Kane Farrell – Spent times at both end of the ground but lifted his output when he went into the attacking half of the ground. Used it well on his left foot hitting all his targets. Had a very good passage on the wing in front of recruiters showing off his speed and agility getting around a handful of Dragons opponents with ease.

He looks as absolute gun in that clip and his testing is fantastic, yet I've never heard of him before. Why isn't he highly rated? Must be some knocks on him or he'd be top 30 with skills and athleticism of that level.

KANE FARRELL

180cm | 72kg | Bendigo Pioneers

Kane Farrell is a player that is developing great versatility after requesting a move forward towards the back end of last season. With the best ‘leg’ in the TAC Cup, the left-footer will be highly sought after in the 2017 draft. A player with great pace, he has the ability to really hurt opponents in the forward half. I would like to see him develop his inside game this season and to do this he will also be required to play through the mid. I also expect to see the Pioneers use his foot skills by taking the kicking in duties and playing off the position he is best at – half back. I see Farrell as a definite top 30 choice that has the ability to go inside the top 20 by years end. – John Bradman

Kane Farrell
Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country
Outside Midfielder/Small Defender
Height: 180 cm Weight: 72 kg D.O.B: 17/03/1999

The best kick in the draft is this left footer from Central Victoria. Kane Farrell from the Bendigo Pioneers has been the standout kick of the draft for a few years now and it has been on full display this year. Spending the year mostly at halfback, Kane has shown off his super boot on a multitude of occasions as has shown an ability to kick the football better than most. This has allowed Kane to develop into a play maker in defense like a Suckling as his kick often sets up the game from the back half. Kane will be looking to move onto the wing next year and with a bigger body could become an inside midfielder. Farrell has some of the best foot skills I have seen since Riley Bonner as he can devastate teams with his ability to hit targets.

Averages over 6 handball recieves a game, and had over 10 on a couple of occasions which is a fantastic stat for a guy with pace and skill. Also averages close to 5 marks a game.

Very nice lateral movement.

I was as big on him as anyone at the start of the year, he was my absolute clear #1.

Had an abysmal year, his champs were extremely ordinary.
So what's your verdict now Pykie, all things considered?

If you don’t think North won’t take a dynamic but aerobically limited big-bodied midfielder with a history of knee problems as a junior, you haven’t been watching this club bumble its way through draft time for a number of years.

Fogarty Fiat! All the way.

HedgeFund has has taking Rayner at 4 and Bonar at 23 in his mock draft. That's X-factor covered. Problem with both is they have s**t endurance.
He also has us taking Kane Farrell (cousin of Dal Santo and a clean kick) at 64. Ed Newman at 78.

Ed Newman notes:

#34 Ed Newman

Inside Midfielder/Medium Defender (Mentone Grammar/Sandringham Dragons)
12/03/1999 | 183cm | 80kg
Previous ranking: N/A

Scouting notes: Was one of the best player in the AGSV school boy competition for Mentone Grammar and was Australia’s 13th man on Boxing Day and Newman is a high level underage cricketer. Possesses a very clean left foot kick and is smart at the contest. Can play across half back and rebound the ball if required.

Last month: Made his TAC Cup debut with 10 disposals and three clearances against Oakleigh Chargers. Against the Dandenong Stingrays, he won the first centre clearance and propelled it long inside 50. He finished the day with four centre clearances to go with his 21 disposals and six marks. Didn’t play on the weekend due to sickness, but should be a certain starter in TAC Cup Finals.

#73 Ed Newman – Started the game on fire, roving a tap from the ruckman – with a long centre clearance kick inside 50. Has a very nice left foot kick and played the game as a pure inside midfielder. Was good in the third quarter when he went head-to-head with Dandenong’s Hunter Clark. Has smarts at the stoppages.

#12 Ed Newman – The AGSV captain hardly missed a target on his left foot throughout the day. Starting at the centre bounce and winning the opening clearance, Newman also played across half back and found the football with ease. Was agile enough to move past his opponents and was one of the AGSV’s best players.

#73 Ed Newman – Newman showed flashes of brilliance today but struggled to get his hands on the ball outside of the contest. The Victorian Under 19 cricketer was brilliant at times with his head over the ball but had a quiet outing today on Dragons debut. One to keep an eye on for the remainder of the year.
