Seems to be a view we might struggle to keep Devon in the manner to which he's entitled to become accustomed, if Kelly stays. Hopper possibly a flight risk. They're both wanted so I wouldn't be counting chickens just yet.
I think the offer mught be fair based on my view Devon is a high first rounder and Hopper possibly second
If we assess your 2018 first round as 12-16 you might need to sweeten it a little.Others will no doubt have a more informed view.

I reckon our current carlton 2nd rounder (pick 21) and our 2018 1st is about right for both.

Clubs might be reluctant to trade you guys a 2018 1st (as good as smith is) because that looks like a good crop but we have a few F/S kids for next year so we might be more prepared to trade it than most (as it would possibly get swallowed up in bidding anyway).

That gets negotiated, pretty clear he's not desperate to go. Do you have the $700k ( new agreement) I think he's worth?

What's he currently on at GWS and what can you afford if Kelly stays?

Pick 20, your current 2nd and next years first?

Where do I sign?

I'd be happy with a first next year and a second this year TBH, mainly because it will get Devon to where he wants to get to be as a form of thankyou for what he did for the club in the early years.

Have to say that a lot of clubs wouldn't want to get players where they want to go for unders its good to know that our two clubs are on the same page in the regard

It's mainly because Devon Smith has been a shining light for us in our fledgling years. If it were a different player that hadn't been here since inception I would have vastly different opinions on his trade value.

We certainly will have it next year with retirements etc. Whether we are prepared to spend it on dev is another matter (i would if motlops on 600 i would easily give dev 700 but unsure if the club would).

Reading between the lines of what raymann is saying (he knows more about your club than me) it sounds like smith would like to stay but if kelly does he will have to take serious unders or you will have to convince a contracted player to be traded to afford to keep devon. If that doesn't work out both parties might have to agree that he looks elsewhere.

Yep
I was guided by him too, he knows what he's talking about.Even worse that was on overs so may have to take a drop which would presumably hurt.
I would guess, and it is a guess he would have been on $550-$600k and allowed for increase.
This year we've been winning clearances but struggling to convert generally. I think that's why we aren't blowing sides away. Some of that is Scully and Whitfield as our main o/s specialist wingers, but in my view an in form Devon as the linkman could well be the difference in September. IE I think he's a very valuable player

No Coniglio for the year hasn't helped us either mate.

Absolutely it hasn't. He's the big out from our best lineup. I guess my point was we've been going ok inside, but we're definitely better with him. I still think the breadown has been outside and the link to convert clearances into goals easily. We're generally winning and that's great but have only had two dominant wins.

Some super talent on show in this Under 18 game between VIC Metro and SA.

Cameron Rayner, Jaidyn Stephenson both look like absolute jets.

Will Sutherland also smart and Jack Lukosius (2018) will be anything.

I first saw Stephenson tear it up in a junior game a year ago. He was just a class above and he has gone on with the job.

Hopefully if we do lose a good player and end up with an early pick these guys are on our shopping list.

So apparently I can't ask a contract question in the contract thread....

Has anyone heard on how Hopper might be traveling now that the CBA has been sorted?
There isn't anything that I can find anywhere.

With the sad events of today with Boyd.

Do we think thay may effect Kellys decision?

2 players have signed massive long term contracts and both have suffered medial issues, wether through pressure or abuse or combined.

Wouldn't have thought so.

I think he is odds on to leave, if he was going to re-sign it would have happened after the CBA.

I've kind of reconciled I'm ok with it if we get two early picks like the Treloar deal. Would really love to get a Jaidyn Stephenson in this year and an early 1st rounder in 2018 which is a gun draft.

Nobody on our list is irreplaceable.

Didnt think it would

Just something i thought of and wondered if it had crossed anyone elses mind.

Yeah as soon as i heard the offer ithought he was gone. Can still hope though.

Am worried we keep waiting and we lose Smith as well.

The good thing is we have time as they can't really sign elsewhere (officially) until we have last crack.

I think we will have a busy period and will lose quite a few, particularly if we win the flag and some of the performance clauses kick in.

It will be a big and surprising free agency/draft period I suspect!

Kellys interview after last game was not positive IMO. But I dont see him going to North, they wouldnt be playing things out in the media if they knew they were a chance.

We've seen this movie before. Meh. If he goes, he goes. If he stays, he stays.

Me, I thought Shiel was gaaawwwwnnn for the bright lights and cafes of Melbourne. But he's still in orange and charcoal.

If I'm an afl player I want to live in Sydney, if I'm a rugby league player I want to live in Melbourne. Who would want to deal with the media of either city prefer to play my game and be left alone.
Except if you are Treloar. McConnell the other night specifically pointed out that the big crowds, bright lights and attention was clearly what 'floated Treloar's boat'
