The only thing I cared about was that we interviewed Balta. :D

I liked the part where LDU said he'd been grilled by the Saints a few times. They must have expected to trade their picks into the top 3 IMO. Suck shit, Saints.

Perhaps but does he have any exposed form as a mid? Just asking the question.

Yeah he has played through the midfield in games but HBF is where he will cut his teeth before moving into the midfield.

Nick Coffield
Midfielder/half-back
Northern Knights/Vic Metro
190cm/83kg
23/10/99

Some of Coffield's best form has been as an attacking half-back, but he is just as comfortable playing through the midfield. His versatility is an appealing trait (he even kicked four goals in the opening round of this season), as is his size given his athleticism and ability to use the ball well. A good leader, Coffield is captain of the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup and is a natural competitor. He looks to be right in the mix as a top-20 pick at this year's draft.

11. NICK COFFIELD

Midfielder/half back, 190cm, 83kg, Northern Knights/Vic Metro

Buckenara says: Coffield’s combination of speed and size makes him a very attractive player. The Northern Knights captain has played his best football across half back this year but he can also move into the midfield and push forward to kick a goal, which he did for Vic Metro against Western Australia in Round 2 of the national carnival. He is quick and agile and was one of the best afield in Metro’s final game when he had 29 disposals and seven marks against the Allies.

Plays like: Grant Birchall

Clubs suited: North Melbourne, Hawthorn, Fremantle, Collingwood, Western Bulldogs, Brisbane/ All clubs would be interested

9. NICK COFFIELD

Clubs: Northern/Vic Metro

Position: Midfield/Half Back

Size: 190cm, 83kg

Bio: Coffield is an interesting prospect. A natural midfielder, he probably played his best footy throughout the Champs across half back. There, he was able to intercept, direct and get things started with ball in hand. At 190cm, he also pushed forward and became a dangerous target. His ball-winning nous, leadership and decision-making skills will likely see him selected in the first round, but his versatility could see him crack the top 10. He racked up 26 disposals and kicked two goals in a TAC Cup clash against Murray on the weekend.

you just know no matter who the club takes that someone on this board will be angry and frustrated with the decision, it's a given!

it's very open in my opinion, i can see us potentially taking 1 of many players that include in no order Coffield, Naughton, Brander, Fogarty, Balta, it is really going to depend on the Lynch situation and how confident we are in getting him across. If we are very confident then i definitely think go for Coffield.

I have been told Naughton is a bad kick lol (so we probably take him haha) is there any truth to that?

Even Naughtons name gives away what we should do Noht on.

Makes Tooves look like Nathan Buckley.

Exactly a lot are very keen on Balta & a lot just want to take the best player available. LOL should make for interesting discussion.

Im in the Fogarty , Coffield , Stephenson , Bradshaw , Cera camp

And you also know if we were to take someone like Coffield, people like Buckenara will be in the Herald Sun saying he wasn't a worthy top ten selection (according the post earlier where he had Coffield at pick 11 despite most people having him in the top ten).

This way the uneducated fans see in the paper that we stuffed up and get angry over nothing.

Haha I thought it was funny that he was easily the most confused by the question.

As I've said before, Balta makes Clokey look like a rocket scientist.

He rocked up to a VM trial game earlier this year when he was supposed to be rested. Wasn't told about the specific times just saw VM had a game on through his teammates social media and rocked up kitted up. The coaches felt awkward and didn't want to let him down so they put him in - it's why he was the only Academy player playing that day.

Haha, that is bloody hilarious.

Do you think he could be a bit of a nightmare to coach?

Oh he's a good bloke nothing against him, but like there is not much going on between the ears. I think it's just a case of possibly simplifying things as much as possible. Earlier in the year there was a player focus done on him, he was tagged in it on Facebook and he responded "Too long to read". Couldn't stop laughing. There's plenty of players in the same boat, Jack Higgins academically is low but has high footy smarts, so while Balta could improve in that area, being low academically doesn't always equate to low footy IQ.

As long as its not Brander, we should be A-Ok.
He's the clear and obvious choice, the best key in the draft and widely rated around 5th/6th... there's a real risk if we don't take him that he turns out to be exactly what we needed and we kick ourselves for years. I reckon he's just going through an awkward stage at the moment, he's huge and gangly at the moment but that will change... pre injury he was the clear favourite to go number 1 in this draft and the word was he had superstar written all over him

I heard we are taking Balta.
For once I hope you aren’t taking the piss. Here’s hoping you’re as right about this as you were about Treloar.

Some of the best players I’ve ever seen have been dumb as dog shit so that doesn’t bother me!

Current players that come to mind that aren’t rocket scientists are Reid and Maynard.

Just can't kick the thing.

I got this impression last year that Tim English was lacking a bit between the ears. Was being touted (mainly by Twomey, mind you) as a top ten pick. Went through to pick 19.

Not sure I want Balta anymore! Haha

I think English slid purely because he was so damn skinny that it was always going to take years for him to become a regular player. He’ll be a jet, but it’s not often early picks are used on players you have to consider a long term project.
