Did North bid for Callum? Do you think they will bid for Tyler?

They did. It largely depends on what clubs see him as long term, IMO.

For instance if I were looking at his game from a traits perspective I'd say he's an inside mid, but will his body develop to allow him to play that sort of role? Does he do a Fyfe or Seedsman bodywise once in the system? If it's the former clubs like Essendon, North and GC could be interested because big bodies around the contest with his skill set would be good for them. If it's the latter and he isn't expected to add much size he's probably limited to a more outside role in which case he drifts like Daicos did because he's not overly quick or skilful.

Given his genetics I'll back him in to develop sufficient size to go on the inside so I'd expect a bid in the third round. I'd definitely look to upgrade a few of those mid range picks to make sure we have three live picks before we receive a bid.

I thought the same until i analysed his field kicking more closely. Turns it over regularly, which will be exposed at AFL level... & not what we need. Coffield is the opposite, beautiful delivery AND pace, and throw in leadership... & he's the one I reckon Derek will like.

Its just whether pick 6 for a HBF is the right thing right now, especially with Scharenberg & Langdon on the list at a similar height. But if Hine sees Coffield as a potential Pendles replacement - only quicker... pick 6 starts to sound like a bargain.

Fogarty could be v good, but could also turn out to be a bit of a manchild with not as much scope for improvement. & there's the go home factor, which seems to be more and more prevalent these days... despite our recent success with SA boys
+1 with Stephenson

But I think calling a 192cm/90kg+ kid a man child is a bit harsh - those stats make him already big enough to make it in every position bar the ruck. Further his biggest issue seems to be endurance/fitness which is not normally the case with man children. I like taking him at pick 6 and note that he is also a very good field kick which doesn't seem to get mentioned much. His versatility is what gives him the edge over coffield for mine.

Non issue for me because he has the skill set to not need one with his pace and agility. In heavy traffic it could be a concern, but as a first receive in/ out mid that we had Aish pegged for he'll be fine without a left side.

The one that looks like he'll make a fantastic inside mid if he fills out is T Brown. With that step and those hands he's an intriguing later prospect.
Brown looks like he could be better than half the players expected to top 20 tbh

You're right. Apologies to Loki.

We all see players differently and not just at the fan level also at the club level. I'm sure some other clubs would feel that Melbourne have overpaid, whereas rumours suggest that we were willing to pay a similar price. To me, injuries aside, Lever is a sure thing to be a long term dominant presence, whereas to guys like you and Apex, he'll play more of a peripheral. On the other hand, most of this board see big things for Shaz. I want to and have tried to, but am really struggling to see it. Hopefully I am wrong on Shaz. Don't care if I am right or wrong on Lever, but only time will tell.

Personally, I think when trading out picks people get carried away with 'first rounder' and somewhat ignore where in the first round it fell. If Melbourne had have traded those picks to move up in the draft, and got back the one they got back what pick do you think it would have netted them?

I'm not saying Lever couldn't improve on that time (with longer time in an elite environment) I am saying that his base to start with wasn't great and he had sufficient time to build up back to a decent shape to test in the 20m event.

Doing 3 x 20m run through is not like having to put your knee to test under playing conditions.

If you have 2 players come into the system one runs a 2.89 20m time the other 3.20 20m time then the naturally quicker player with the same training will likely hold the pace gap.

As for Schaz well his body has been through 2 knees, and feet surgery, they stripped him back of weight (had signs of atrophy from even his u18 photos to his return size), this suggest a massive emphasis on lightening his load and endurance based exercise over power/burst. I am hoping they can now look to improve his power game again and hopefully eek out a bit of improvement in his pace (but he'll never be a "quick").

Schaz also plays his best footy in a similar role to what Lever currently plays loose 3rd in type, although Schaz at his best has more quarter back to his game (ie Hodge) then Lever imo (Lever fuss is over his *intercepts ave* but his possession rate is only so so).

Atm AFL level we have Howe playing it long term Schaz should take the reigns.

Lever will likely become a KPD and I don't see Schaz having the pace for that role (which are also questions on Lever ability to keep up with pacey talls).

Lever never had this he has consistently and steadily increased his size.

Interesting. He wouldn’t be the worst choice. Highly rated young KPD from WA who has had a taste of senior football and tested very well at the recent combine.

Was also talk Freo were keen on Fogarty. Wonder if any interest by us in Naughton could be to get them to pull trigger on him at 5 thus allowing Fogarty to get to us at 6.

He has a shocking kick. Maybe Freo have learnt from the Hawks model and don't want a poor kick.

But Pies with our kicking marvels could carry a poor kick at CHB/FB and would love to spend pick 6 on a taller slightly more unco version of Alan Toovey.:drunk:

I'm getting seriously depressed as the noise is getting louder re Naughton.

loves a hospital handball and kick based on that video

Shocking Disposal on that Video.

His Kicking Reminds me of Nathan Brown ALL UP and UNDERS

Brown looks like Buckley when compared to Naughton.
But he's very secure down back

It’s funny because he almost looks undraftable in his highlights package! Every telegraphed loopy handball, every loopy slow kick. Every give then run to receive only to need to rush a kick downfield.

Has anyone seen more than a couple of highlights videos of Fogarty? Seems like a lot of positives, good decision making, good kick, let's assume his physicality(don't argues etc) translates to AFL(which it may not).

The only downside I saw was that he seems to have a severe case of butter fingers. Can anyone confirm whether that is usually the case?

If Hine takes him at 6... he needs to be put down humanely.

"He has massive scope for improvement... we'll sit him down with the bio-mechanists and work that out..."

And those were the last words of Derek Ulysses Hine, as the injection passed peacefully through his veins. A good soldier, taken too soon...

When I’ve seen him play I’ve never really thought he had poor hands. He’s a good contested mark and usually pretty good through traffic.

Lucky we have the really good skills coach...

LOL. I watched that video and the first thing that came to mind was Alan Toovey. All over.:D

There's a clear cut top 5 and not much between 6-15.davies-uniacke, dow, rayner, cerra and stephenson.we just hope one slides to 6 and we pounce even if we do need kp players.

Anyone know how Jonty Shaz went in SANFL this year? He would be a better rookie option than some of our other recent rookie gambles..?

It's a shame. He looked like a genuinely good footballer, until it was time to dispose of it.

Has he Learned to Kick?
