What would the opinion be of trading pick 5 for two later first round picks. Looking at how many people think the draft will pan out, Oscar Allen (KPF, Larke medalist) or Noah Balta (raw but really highly regarded KPP) will still be on the boards at a mid teens pick, as will bolter Matt Ling, classy user of the ball with brilliant speed. These two players combined would address two big needs for us, another tall to develop and grow, plus pace and clean usage. Haydn McLean and especially Coleman-Jones look to have slid down draft boards when you look at draft forums and phantom drafts, so one of those two could also be floating around at a later pick.

Ideally if the club walked away with;
Allen/Balta (KPP)
Ling
Coleman Jones/ McLean (KPF)
*Prospect type - Sambono/ Kreuger/ L. Ryan*
Would that be considered a 'bust'?

Im fairly sure richmond have 2 first round picks. I reckon they would bite as well if we offered say pick 5 for there picks 13? and 16?

If that happened i would ideally like to trade 16 and a player to Adelaide for Lever (if it has to be 13 then so be it) and use the other pick on a player in the draft you suggested.

Anything short of Wayne Carey/Gary Ablett is going to be considered a bust.

Don't want Allen. Nothing particularly special about him from the vision I've seen despite his Larke medal. KM talked about him the other day and basically said if got drafted he doubts he'd make it either.

Balta is one I'm keen on though.

Balta is pretty similar to McCarthy (whom we already have, just needs more development). I don't mind the idea of trading down as Wooller is the "Gunston" type that would do well and we could snaffle one of Constable or Coffield later in the first round.
Also Ed Richards is exactly what we require. A really quick, line breaking, piercing left foot half back. Would have been in the Metro side barring an early season knee injury. Has been better than higher accoladed opponents in APS games and equally importantly is the continuation of the Richards / Pannam blood line.

Balta could well be a bolter. Had a big game on the weekend in the TAC. Started at CHB went through the ruck and CHF. Ended up with 30 touches. He is definitely tickling my interest now that Sutherland is out.

Lachlan O'Brien is my mid size player option. Had a knee injury pre championships so we didn't see his best.

184cm left footer with electric pace and elite foot skills. Also as hard as nails and can play off the half back flank, midfield or forward.

Was discussed as a possible number 1 pick pre champs but as discussed had an injury cloud over him. Apparently is a very good 400 m runner at state level.

He fits a glaring hole in our list. A mid size player with elite pace and skill who can defend small forwards.

Not Sure Pert would accept Ablett Snr

And not just because that mark was paid

Not with our first pick though
5 is probably too high but you never know with Hine. He likes upside and versatility and Balta has plenty of it. Brander could be available and we could still pass on him. It's really is a lottery with Hine.

I have heard we definitely wouldn't take Stephenson because he has a bad case of OCD. Thought that was interesting.

That's interesting about Stephenson. I really wouldn't want him anyway, to me he's the epitome of a high risk high reward prospect

Had that great game in the champs but I'm not sold on him totally. His field kicking is poor and he's not a great mark for a mid sized player. I think he could be a damaging forward but I'm not sure what he would bring up the ground at AFL level.

They need one for Naish. I'd rather give them 5 for 13 and their R1 next year.
Do they? Most ratings I've seen have him around the late 1st early 2nd round. Surely they'd be looking to get the best value possible for their first picks + Naish rather than saving a pick for him?

I'd say he's a second rounder. Potentially but I'd say they will have a better idea when trade week roles around. If he has a bumper finals they might need it in case they are forced to pay more than expected and they lose their next pick/drops right down.

My main goal would be to trade into the 2018 R1.

Lever plays the same position as Howe. Given we already have a defensive balance that favours talls, if we recruit Lever it has to be with an eye on sending Howe forward. Lever still hasn't demonstrated that he's a centre half back to a high quality so if that's the position people have earmarked for him I think they'll be disappointed.
