Yet we seem to maintain 1 of the largest national identification networks with a P/T manager in every state and about 15 P/T spotters. Seems a reasonable trade off to have more resources at the coal face rather than at the HC.
Would it be worth just bidding on Ballenden? If brisbane match doesn't matter, but if they see someone like Balta etc still on the boards they may be tempted to let Ballenden go and grab someone else with the pick they have?? Kids got talent and is one of the better KPF's in the draft now with Will choosing cricket, if Brisbane match well then we're just in the same boat we were in anyway, never know if you never ask.

He isn't even a KPF, played his best footy at CHB. Moves like a Mac truck. I wouldn't be bidding on him.Would it be worth just bidding on Ballenden? Is it working? Forget all the noise the only real test of resource allocation is results. Even though I'm still ok with our recruiting work, given the shape of our list, the results have still been mixed.
I'll preempt your response sticking up for the club and point out that we are no longer the benchmark we once were and a desire to be better is healthy!

I watched Balta play yesterday and he was very poor. Of course that's only one game, but personally he isn't convincing me. I think his best position is centre half-back, rather than a forward.

Herald Sun Shield semi-final, high school footyWhich game did you watch?
I'll take a KPD but not with a first round pick. 100% needs to be a forward I think.I could live with us taking a KPD to partner McLarty for the next decade if the best KPF's are gone. Dunn, Goldsack and Reid aren't getting any younger. Ideally both would demonstrate Reid's ability to play at either end. Would mean we'd be even more desperate to get a KPF via FA or trade though.
Fair enough. Had a best on in the TAC last weekend so that's a shame he didn't dominate school footy. I don't think he's really settled anywhere. You hear people say he's beater suited forward and some say back. Hopefully he grows a few cm's and can go into the ruck at AFL level.Herald Sun Shield semi-final, high school footy

Don't think it's the amount of resources available, more so the calibre of our selections or inability to recognise a gem after the first round.

Subject: Age profile for 2018
Not a lot of great reading in that prime age bracket.
loki04 just to clarify in what regard do you consider it not great reading?
I agree it looks poor, but I think I might be on a slightly different wavelength. From my perspective there's 11 blokes 25+ that are genuine AFL quality. Any list with half a best 22 25+ shouldn't be sitting in the bottom 6. Also all of WHE, Crisp and Adams will turn 25 in 2018 so, IMO, it's 14! The only noticeable flaw is the lack of genuine star power, but no one thinks that's why we've sunk so low is it?
I personally look at that as a sign that there's untapped potential in this group and the FD have dropped the ball. With the correct guidance plus off-season moves (add another KPF into that bracket) and it's a list that's in a position to rise up the ladder whilst the president is talking rebuild!
The biggest issue I foresee is that knowing us we'll attract more fringe players in the 25-29 bracket and trade out one of the quality ones without replacing them.
That's pretty embarrassing
Sco if your are 25 + and on an AFL list you should be a clear best 22 player, shouldn't be half filled with VFL players and players about to be delisted.
Also see below there are 3 names there that shouldn't be.
Gets worse when you take Elliott, Treloar and Wills out who are 24 and not meant to be in that bracket. The person I quoted from EBnW made a boo boo.

Clubs are allowed to retain depth players. All clubs have them we've got 8-10 and 4 at least will go at seasons end. Non issue, IMO.
What concerns me list wise from the profiling is the lack of 18-22 yo's that are in the top 25% of our list.
The EBnW post said "age profile for 2018" so they were correct on Wills, Treloar and Elliott, but missed WHE, Adams and Crisp. All six were born in 93 so will be 25 in 2018.
This is why we haven't started building again, our highly rated picks simply haven't come on as hoped. What concerns me list wise from the profiling is the lack of 18-22 yo's that are in the top 25% of our list.
WHE, Adams and Crisp are all born September or later, so it appears said poster is identifying age groups as at the start of the 2018 season. The EBnW post said "age profile for 2018" so they were correct on Wills, Treloar and Elliott, but missed WHE, Adams and Crisp. And how has that been working out the last 6 years?
