Are you now allowed to trade picks for a pick?
You've always been allowed to trade picks for picks. We traded 11, 31 and 49 to the Eagles for 6 and 44 in 2013.

I think Oscar Allen will be available in the second round. Words are that some of the recruiters don't see him being much more than he already is. Will never be a dominant KPF but will bob for a couple of goals a game. Not a bad player just probably not worth a first round pick.

In terms of Rayner, it'll depend on who the lions and suns take at 1. Word is that they've both cooled on Rayner due to fitness and go home factor, and this could change how the rest of the top 10 plays out. Carlton and North may take him if he's there (Carlton are reportedly big on LDU) and Freo will take a KPP (probably Nuaghton or Brander).

If he was on the boards when 6 rolls around would we want him over a KPP? If he and Brander are there who would we rather the club select?

That could be very interesting if come Pick 6 , both Rayner and Brander are there . I think we should take Brander ahead of Rayner . What are your thoughts ?

I still feel like he'll be gone, not sure really to which club, but I think one of the clubs will nab him before our pick, but let's just say if both were there at pick 6 the club would have to seriously consider Rayner. He's explosive and powerful and similar to Martin and the sort of guy that could be in the top couple of players in the league when he reaches his peak in a few years time.

That being said surely the club would have to take Brander. He's a promising tall who can play and develop at either end. We know that quality talls need to be taken early and midfielders can be found later in the draft or via different means.

If i was the club and 6 rolls around and they're both still there... Brander...just :p

If Rayner magically slips to 6 I would take him all day. Best kid in the draft to fall that far is highly unlikely though.

Chances are looking reasonably good that 1 of Brander or Fogarty will be there at 6.

Knightmare

Who would you prefer and your reasoning why?

Cheers!
I already asked this earlier in the thread and the tldr answer is 'I don't know'.

I'm undecided at 6 regardless of whether either/or/both of Fogarty and/or Brander are there at 6.

Fogarty has been poor this year and very poor during the U18 championships. No impact and struggled to get a touch. But he has played through injury, so his 2016 form is more relevant, where he was projected to be a top 1-3 pick.

Brander by contrast is this years most highly rated key position player. Has shown glimpses but hasn't dominated either as a key defender or key forward. Showing attributes but dropping marks he should be taking.

Neither have a clear best position.

There are still games to be played. There are some lower rated talents I'm still considering ahead of the pair.

How about Stephenson?

I don't think you rate him as high as others like Twomey but the bio that he provided seems impressive and he is an outside goal kicking mid/wing that would be of use also.

He's a big time finals performer and as an u16 he was playing TAC Cup and really stood up. That element is a tick. He's quick and can take on the game on the outside.

Ok, but not outstanding accumulator. Good athlete and can leap. Versatile and can play outside/inside mid or forward. Hands overhead inconsistent. Kicking inconsistent. Performances from week to week inconsistent.

Stephenson is probably a top 10 pick, but not one I would consider for pick 6, even if it's roughly around where he is expected to land.

Just a thought on pick 6 and our need for a quality tall to support Darcy Moore. Given that quality talls outside the top 10 are not that uncommon (Ben Brown, Kurt Tippett, Josh Jenkins, Tom Lynch (crows), Harry Taylor, Tom Lynch (suns) to name a few), could it not be an idea to go best available with our first pick and target key forwards with our next picks? It might require trading for a pick between 10-20 but you don't necessarily need to spend a top 10 pick on a good quality forward.

Obviously if the best prospect at 6 on the night is a tall forward then you take him, but it might not be unthinkable to address this need later in the draft.

I'd be addressing that need with Toby Wooler later in the draft around the 30-50 mark. He's consistent and a good all round forward.

Sorry if the topic of Tyler Brown has already been discussed but he has officially been invited to this years draft combine and is just eligible (in age) to be taken this year.

To those keen under age watchers where does he sit within this year's crop and has he shown enough for us to join him up with Cal. At 186cm he is a bit taller than his older brother.

Most of the speculation suggests we should be able to grab him with a late or rookie pick.

Weren't they looking at stopping clubs with academies such as Brisbane from stockpiling later picks to bid on players? Or something along those lines?

Isn't that more about restricting how they compile the points to match (ie: next available rather than a cluster of accumulated late picks) rather than the trade of picks?

You could be right. And hopefully you are right, because that would encourage them to give up their higher picks if the deal is enticing enough.

I get this gut feeling Brander is still going to be available at our pick 6 but one of the top 3 to 4 mids will slide and be too tempting not to pick.

Some OK timber later on, but we desperately need to trade back into the high 2nd round.

There's a bit posted about him in the future magpies thread.

Will probably feature later in the draft or in the rookie draft.

If we could get two second rounders and keep our first we can definitely get some good talls.
