Let's not get too carried away - put Howe in the Crows system and he'd dominate.

Langdon would also make a pretty solid fist of it in their system I suspect.

I think it's stupid to be throwing everything at him right now tbh - yes he looks good at 21 but how much of that is Adelaide's highly drilled game plan and structures (and thus how much of his current form would translate to a different / lesser team) is the question I would have.

If all you can do as a 21 year old is be the best at a particular skill, you’re not doing too shabbily. I know that’s simplifying it a lot but that’s a standout feature.

Better than any 21 year old playing the game? Or better than anyone playing the game? Now your just taking the piss unless you're just talking as an intercept marking 3rd tall.

And we get both Langdon and Howe for pretty much the same money Lever is on I'd reckon, bargain with 1 costing a late pick and the other a packet of twisties and change, as opposed to 2x 1st round picks.

Yeah we are definitely discussing his intercept possessions here for which he is the youngest in the top 20+ and ranked 1 on average. That’s not taking the piss. That’s just where he is at right now. Obviously he’s no where near peaking yet unlike Rance and Howe etc.

That's a bit unfair in response to Loki. I don't remember him saying that Scharenberg's athleticism or power will improve. Like most of us I believe the thought process is that with time the confidence in his body will return not that he'll simply become a better athlete.

FWIW I'd say with that greater confidence he'll start taking on those harder kicks rather than the simple sideways option, present to more dangerous spots as an outlet and get better balance between defence and attack.

You're right. Apologies to Loki.

We all see players differently and not just at the fan level also at the club level. I'm sure some other clubs would feel that Melbourne have overpaid, whereas rumours suggest that we were willing to pay a similar price. To me, injuries aside, Lever is a sure thing to be a long term dominant presence, whereas to guys like you and Apex, he'll play more of a peripheral. On the other hand, most of this board see big things for Shaz. I want to and have tried to, but am really struggling to see it. Hopefully I am wrong on Shaz. Don't care if I am right or wrong on Lever, but only time will tell.

Personally, I think when trading out picks people get carried away with 'first rounder' and somewhat ignore where in the first round it fell. If Melbourne had have traded those picks to move up in the draft, and got back the one they got back what pick do you think it would have netted them?

Perhaps something circa 3-5. To me Lever the third tall defender isn't worth as much as one of the very best mids in this draft or the best KPP. If he goes on to impact in that manner as a KPD I'll be happy to change my tune, but for now he's a long way off that and until then I can't buy in.

Read Naughton is a chance at pick 6 for us on the phantom draft board, thoughts on that? Haven't heard much of him
Loki won’t be happy lol.

He’s definitely the best KPD in the draft and he’s had a very solid year, especially when he debut in the WAFL. Kicking needs some work so that’s why some won’t be happy but I personally don’t see it as a major issue because he has a good all round game of stopping and intercept marking.

Wouldn’t have thought so. Freo more likely given he’s a WA boy. Good defender but below average kick.

I'd be very happy with either Coffield, Stephenson or Fogarty at 6.
I'm hoping for Stephenson personally. Love his intent, speed and his willingness to break the lines and his fearlessness to not take the safe option and instead back himself and try to move the ball into dangerous positions.
I thought the same until i analysed his field kicking more closely. Turns it over regularly, which will be exposed at AFL level... & not what we need. Coffield is the opposite, beautiful delivery AND pace, and throw in leadership... & he's the one I reckon Derek will like.

Its just whether pick 6 for a HBF is the right thing right now, especially with Scharenberg & Langdon on the list at a similar height. But if Hine sees Coffield as a potential Pendles replacement - only quicker... pick 6 starts to sound like a bargain.

Fogarty could be v good, but could also turn out to be a bit of a manchild with not as much scope for improvement. & there's the go home factor, which seems to be more and more prevalent these days... despite our recent success with SA boys

Interesting. He wouldn’t be the worst choice. Highly rated young KPD from WA who has had a taste of senior football and tested very well at the recent combine.

Was also talk Freo were keen on Fogarty. Wonder if any interest by us in Naughton could be to get them to pull trigger on him at 5 thus allowing Fogarty to get to us at 6.

Pendlebury has a right side

Massive Collingwood supporter originally from Victoria so no go home factor, says it would be a dream to play for us but his kicking is a bit of a worry for mine, could be Lever if he cleans it up.

Non issue for me because he has the skill set to not need one with his pace and agility. In heavy traffic it could be a concern, but as a first receive in/ out mid that we had Aish pegged for he'll be fine without a left side.

The one that looks like he'll make a fantastic inside mid if he fills out is T Brown. With that step and those hands he's an intriguing later prospect.

Did North bid for Callum? Do you think they will bid for Tyler?

Tyler hasn't been as prominent at TAC level as Callum who was being tipped to go anywhere from 35 on in the phantom draft thingy's, Tyler much later.

Plus Callum was a All-Australian in the U-18 Champs

I’d imagine Tyler would be similar to Daicos in that he’ll be bid on very late or we’ll just take him with our last live selection.

interesting...

Heath Shaw doesnt have a left foot though. Didnt hurt him too much. If you've got the pace to get free, doesnt seem to hurt players with such a dominant preferred side
Can become a little predictable, it separates players at the top. I wouldnt rule him out because if it. Love seeing players adept on either side.

Plus a sentimental one, I love the F&S aspect of the game. My 8 yo wants 26 on his back, I think he hears me talking about Daicos SNR so much.
