I'm largely of the view that Collingwood are wringing every ounce of blood out of this dead horse for as long as they can because they are going to be open to a s**t tonne of criticism for knifing a premiership coach out of fear that North were going to poach Buckley for a coaching gig.

I like how you're really trying to reach here and find holes. A bit like a dentist who's short of cash.

We need to ready our list for 2018 and 2019, and it doesn't really matter what year before then we add ready made midfielders. With a single pick at the end of 2016, you could draft a player that will probably be a quality young player with ~40 games by the end of 2018, or you can trade for a midfielder that will be quality in 2018. But if you spend two picks on one quality player for 2018, suddenly you're potentially one ~40 game young gun short. If you can't make the trade in 2016 without spending two picks, you're better off waiting and making similar or more aggressive moves in 2017. The closer you are to the list peaking, the less valuable draft picks become, and it's reasonable to think in 2017 that two first round draftees is worth less to us than in 2016 because a 2017 draftee is unlikely to be ready for 2018.

So in short, our time isn't now, but it isn't in the distant future either. There is no point trading Jenkins for a draft pick, with that draft pick then replacing Jenkins, because the new player won't be ready until after our list peaks. There is no point trading Jenkins for a midfielder as we have draft currency for midfielders. There is a point to trading in a midfielder, but there's no point overpaying several years away from the list peaking.

Funny how desperate the incoherent are to prove themselves consistent in spite of all evidence to the contrary

The bullies have a much much much better midfield than us. They don't have a bunch of HB flankers at all
They do have a bunch of smallish guys in there too bar Bont. Shows that having big, hulking midfielders isn't as important as some people would have us believe.

Their skill level is ridiculous.

Just curious if the womens Crows team wins today, does this end the Clubs drought?

I mean if Port pretends to count all their flags since Before Christ, is this our 3rd?
in my opinion definitely not.

its a club premiership, but it doesn't break the drought.

Not really sure how you are getting to that conclusion. Grundy smashed them in the ruck, which led to Collingwood smashing them in clearances and contested possessions. Collingwood lost and WB won it by efficiency differential in the forward 50, imagine if Collingwood had a decent forward line?
Wasn't Beveridge complains about no 3rd man up because they don't really have a specialised ruckman...

Never said they can't have good games but they don't flat out cause you to win games or make finals, look at Gawn last year and Minson a few years back both absolutely dominated seasons and there opponents & were named All-Australians but their teams didn't even make the finals, whilst statistically good they ultimately failed despite personally having many outstanding games, you're just as good of a chance of making finals without a A grade ruckman as you are with one.

I don't want to repeat myself yet again on this forum but my formula that I always bring up that caused my view point to skew this way, in the last 10 grand finals only two top grade ruckman have won flags -Ottens & Jolly, both never put in particular good games either. Very good midfields make good ruckman look good and very good midfields also make ordinary serviceable triers look very competitive and occasionally world beaters, especially in finals when they even manage to drag them along to become premiership players.

All ruckman are just dependents on the quality and strength of the midfield both rucks more than likely cancel each other out at times in a match so if that's the case that's why someone like a Bulldogs or maybe another forward progressive looking club could do well to go even further away from the traditional ruckman most clubs are still sticking with and look to put someone in there that can find ways to make a more meaningful contribution in another way. They could start by using the starting key position forward (Tippett/ Boyd type) to take centre bounces before going back forward and using an extra midfielder (modern day 190+cm mid like Cripps, Bont ect.) to take the around the ground work, with just the focus of competing in the duel making the taps more ineffective & looking to shark off the opposition tap, these are what's going to happen most times you come up against a Gawn or Sandilands even with a 200cm traditional ruckman so you're not going to lose out whilst looking to gain an even bigger advantage.

Clubs should start looking outside the box and look at ways to be game changers for the future, I see traditional ruckmen like dinosaurs & club's have the ability to bring a meteor down on them with the view that something new and better grows in their place, I know people will have a completely different view and think I'm totally wrong which is fine, I'm anti-ruckmen and proud of it.

What's this Himmelberg kid like.
Or Keith, Hunter?
Do we have someone that fits the bill. ?

Just tuned into fiveaa to check their coverage for the Port game and they are taking Croc Media's call.
Pretty poor decision by management if that's what they are doing for both Crows and Port games. Even if it's an away only arrangement.
