We don't lose them. We just can't use them to pick up players if our list is full at the time they come up. They're still available for using in matching bids on Mead even if we only have 1 empty list spot at the time he is bid on.

I'm pretty sure you just lose them.

No more hidden picks: AFL alters the draft bidding system

Northern clubs will no longer be able to activate "hidden picks" during the draft in order to access academy players.

The AFL has ruled that the number of selections a club holds going into the national draft must match the number of vacant spots on their primary list.

The league hopes the change will create less incentive for clubs to trade down the draft in order to accumulate draft "points", as some did last year.

Clubs will still have a leeway of two picks, given they are allowed to finish the off-season with a primary list of 38-40 players.
Under the change, clubs that need to use multiple picks to match a bid for one of their players will be given a new pick or picks at the back of the draft.
That way, the extra selections will not impact on those of other clubs.

They start by making extremely exploitable loopholes for every rule they make, then after the “good” clubs get ahead they close those loopholes.

I think this is the fairest thats its ever been. Better than getting incumbent Pick 1 Tom Hawkins with a 3rd rounder, top 5 Travis Cloke with a 3rd rounder etc

Coming off a knee and may well go before pick 12, but if he slides, as often these types coming off injuries do, he might be a steal.

We've got a big hole in the key forwards area. Still waiting on if we sign a delisted free agent. If we get one there, then we probs still need a fwd/ruck too.

This is the issue. Clubs don’t have any incentive to bid since there is zero chance they actually get the player. This means that there is heaps of leeway depending on what clubs are willing to let others get away with.

They almost need to be done outside the ND or something. I just don’t see why the matching club is allowed to use all their picks but the bidding club can’t. It’s a ridiculous advantage towards clubs that finish higher up the ladder. At least they closed that loophole where clubs could hoard picks but that was such an easy exploit to notice and has given a handful of clubs huge benefits (Blakey is particularly infuriating).

Macca is right that it’s wayyyyy better than before, but it’s all just so avoidable.

Agree with the requirement for a goal kicking key forward. Some more pace in and around the midfield, to compliment our big body mids, would also be nice.

I think we need some KPPs, preferably a KPF, but not sure there are any high end talents this year, so a KPD would be high on the needs list. Would also need some outside speed and class.
