Why do most think he going to ask for a trade?I think most of us think he will. Interested to see what picks we would get
I was about to write something similarNon of those are much good I reckon. We would be way better turning Himmelberg into a defender. He knows our systems and is a good kick.
Why do most think he going to ask for a trade?
There is no indication anywhere and has basically said he plans on being here forever.
I'm not saying he won't go, anyone could, but I think there is a bit of unsubstantiated group think going on

Scharenberg would be my pick from that lot, has shown the talent. With Corr leaving, do we purely rely on the draft for a young KPD and existing players (Stein, Keeffe, Idun & Buntine) for cover behind Davis and Taylor, or do we look at an interim KPD as well as a draftee?
There are not too many out there that we could look at, so it might not be worth it. Obviously, if they're avalable - they're not that good! But I'm not talking about getting someone as a first grader, rather an experienced backup player.
Jake Carlisle possibly one. He's never seemed settled at Saints, and possibly on the chopping block come end of season. I'm not a fan, and he's a bit of a dickhead from his drug video from 4/5 years ago. But could sub for Davis if he is out at a better level than Keeffe (although the latter seems very in favour with then match committee). Might cost a bit, although at 29 should not be more than Corr was costing. Might not want to come to NSW anyway.
Kyle Hartigan from Crows seems destined to depart and might be happy to come to NSW to hang oto a career. Also two years older than Corr and very much a whipping boy for Crows' fans - but incredibly similar stats to Corr and I think a similar type player. (In my view we probably didn't need to play 4 talls - Davis, Taylor or Corr and Haynes should have been the setup.) Hartigan would be cheap cover as a likely DFA.
I thought about Majak Daw also, but he's older, less experienced, and IMHO shitter than either of these so wouldn't like to consider.
Marcus Adams from Lions, ex-Bulldogs. A touch shorter at 192cms, only a touch older than Corr, & unable to get a spot in the Lions side - but that's why he's be gettable, and cheap to pay.
I thought about but wouldn't touch Harrison Macreadie from Carlton - the lure would be ex-GWS academy, but he's too injury prone.
Matt Scharenberg from Pies? The knock is his early injuries, but he seemed to get over those but can't break into the team with Darcy Moore moved down back. But showed what he can do with a decent 2018. More a third tall at 191 cms though, similar to Idun, but just would bring in greater experience.
And ... what about Jack Hombsch: ex-GWS, Port, now at Gold Coast and just a year older than Corr. He might be expendable with their current set-up, and offers broadly similar traits to Corr. IMHO we cut him too early and would have been a useful player had we kept him. Obviously he has since been cut by Port, too, so he has his limitations. But as a cheap, gettable backup I'd be willing to look at him.
Of course, we must go to the draft with whatever we get from departing players this year - Williams, Caldwell if they go and Corr should all bring in picks around that mid-first to second round - to seek a long-term KPD replacement for Davis. I'm just thinking about an interim fill-in for a few years.
Thoughts?
As an aside, a midfield of Green, Hopper, Taranto and Coniglio lacks some speed. Too many good inside players with not enough speed and kicking penetration.
Scharenberg would be very gettable, but 3/4 ACLs and a general lack of athleticism to begin with worry meScharenberg would be my pick from that lot, has shown the talent.
No idea how "gettable" he is, but I suspect he would only be interested in moving if he was playing best 22, so doesn't fit the backup player mold (for us) you describe
Mate Keefe has been fantastic this year. Key defenders don’t have to provide rebound 50’s to get a tick next to their name. He has proven more than handy and has probably had one of the best two seasons of his career. Ideally he is a back up but he has more than held his ownIf they were too good they wouldn't be available! I would have made the same suggestion about HH as you: until the last half of this season - how he's approached tall contests has not inspired me. Buckley more likely to be turned into a defender, hence a previous post of mine (after last week's game) along those lines.
I'm just unconvinced by Keeffe, Stein, Idun and Buntine as credible backups - especially over an extended period as occurred this year - and think a couple on that list might be better than what we've got at the moment. Backups yes, but able to slot into a spot for an extended period of injury/unavailability, while we develop a draftee or two for the long term.
I think we play much closer to the cats game plan. They changed their forward set up this year to isolate an in form Hawkins. But apart from that, they rely on contested ball, stoppages and territory football to winA good tactician would use it as a strength because most sides can't match those guys at what they do best. So rather than try to set up runners behind the ball qtr back style and handballing backwards perhaps we should be rushing it fwd. Would keep the fwds 1on1 as everytime we handball backwards and chip kick out to the wings opposition just drop back and fill the holes. To me we have tried to copy what WCE did to win a flag, chip kicks, lots of big fwds, defenders intercept marking rather than spoiling. It hasn't worked because it's a different playing list, we need a game plan for this playing list.
Injuries I agree on for sure and tbh I thought he was the same height as Corr, not 4cm shorter..Scharenberg would be very gettable, but 3/4 ACLs and a general lack of athleticism to begin with worry me
Role wise Scharenberg prospers more in a Haynes type of low accountability, I'm not sure I'd bring him in as a like for like lockdown type, but I'd definitley take a punt on Scharenberg over a guy like BuntineInjuries I agree on for sure and tbh I thought he was the same height as Corr, not 4cm shorter..
That said if he is fit he is a potentially cheap upgrade on Corr..
Footywire Comparison
I suppose it depends on what we see as the issue. Is it a KPD stopper? Is it a utility? A small? For me it is a distributor. We have the run and carry (ash). We have the interceptor and we have stoppers.Injuries I agree on for sure and tbh I thought he was the same height as Corr, not 4cm shorter..

Considering ash perryman Shaw and Williams all played in the same team at some points in the year...I’m not sure they are “replacements” as such. To replace we need another body in.Well, my musings about possibly looking for an experienced KPD as backup was definitely aimed at a lockdown type rather than interceptor or a distributor type (the latter to me being a different question, a Heater-type replacement & not necessarily a tall).
And that was coming from a view that we were exposed this year when we lost both Davis & Taylor this season and had to rely on Corr & Keeffe, and even more exposed the last two weeks when it was Keeffe/Idun - which becomes the defacto starting point for next year if we lose David & Taylor. However, there doesn't seem to be any appetite amongst other fans for getting experience in. Therefore, in this year's draft we definitely need one, and I'd argue we should get two, tall defenders , and more in coming years. We have lost Corr, Davis presumably has only 2-3 years left, Keeffe himself is older than Phil so maybe only 1-2 years for him, and I think Buntine should be replaced soon as well. Stein and Idun are really the only two developing talls, so we need to draft some talented kids in.
Replacing Heater is a different question. We had suggestions around Perryman, Cumming & Whitfield (spending more time back) as taking Heater's role. Perryman is probably the closest in style to Heater - not that we have to replace Heater stylistically. Ash is not the Heater replacement to me; he's more of a Williams replacement IMHO. You could probably use Scharenburg for that distributor role - not that I was thinking of that in my original post. Davis - Taylor - Haynes - Sharenburg (as the distributor) - Ash - Cumming - Perryman would be how I'd see that set-up. I must admit I have not seen Scharenburg play that much due to his injuries, but in 2018 he was ranked 5th for effective disposals over a 17-game season so he possibly could. I'm just not sure his one-on-one defending would be up to that role; but then dlanod noted that Witherden lost his place this season to Birchall as the better one-on-one defender.
I had thought that O'Halloran might have stepped up into a backline role - he showed both speed and endurance during his draft year. But he's been a bit slow to come on, had a few injuries during the last two years, and we haven't really given him a good look at first grade. If we can hold onto him into next year, I wouldn't mind if he got more of a chance. But the same could be said of Cumming and Ash as well.
Questions, questions, questions.
It's a case of replacing the role Shaw has done - which can be an entirely new player or an existing player being re-roled. (Although I say that with the qualification that we don't necessarily have to find an exact like-for-like style player.) The latter would see a new player added doing something different to Shaw's role.Considering ash perryman Shaw and Williams all played in the same team at some points in the year...I’m not sure they are “replacements” as such. Hopefully we can fill the role with a 2014-18 Heath Shaw type who was an exceptional player. Sadly he hasn’t contributed the same confidence, run or aggressive and penetrating kicking the past couple of years. Has been a while since he had a defensive forward line up on him. It's a case of replacing the role Shaw has done - which can be an entirely new player or an existing player being re-roled. Given that we may be missing Corr, Shaw & Williams next year, there will need to be a significant rejig of the defence set-up.

Band 1 is immediately after our first round pick, or in this case where our first round pick would be if we had oneWhere will the compo pick land? Top 10?
I would say that is great trade ammunition, but based on our history, it is pretty clear that no one worth trading for would actually want to come.
