Not a fan of pick 30, but I get it. We don't expect him to be around when we're contending next and think losing him won't damage the culture much, if at all, but the player we get for pick 30 is every chance of being around.

We've been playing him out of position anyway, so if he stayed on would we still be doing that?

Is the development of our young players by Higgins more valuable than pick 30, that’s the question. Value using the usual age, stats etc doesn’t take this into account.

If Higgo can jag a premiership in the next couple of years (not likely IMHO, cos Geelong), good luck to him. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him back at North in an off field role once he's retried. He's a Shinboner.

i'm sure they're watching you with bated breath

I'm sure they don't give a **** about you, me or anyone else who posts here, outside of collecting our money.

Our last pick 30 was Trent Dumont. Before that, Rod Crowe, Sav Rocca and Paul McMahon.

Fair to say that's a 50% record.
Lol Paul McMahon, better known as Sharrelle McMahon’s brother. Big Blues family but they did come along and watch Paul play in the resies. Kicked 7 one day and thought he was a chance, but no.

I want the best for Shaun but I still don’t want Geelong winning a flag.

The reality is next year we wanted to go with Cunnington, LDU and Simpkin in the middle, Higgins isn't a wingman and our flank positions are already getting overwhelmed.
Exactly, combined with the fact he only had one more year with us and we won't be playing finals!!
Pick 30 is a decent result

if something happened like, dangerfield getting a long term injury in the prelim then i'd like to see it for the irony alone. the media would almost treat it like they hadn't won anything

30 will be seen as a win across the industry, we'll feel a bit sad because he's been so good for us but in fairness he only had one more year with us in all likelihood. It's a solid trade.
This is spot on. For all those calling this out as a shit trade, we told Higgo that we wouldn't renew his contract so to get pick 30 for a player with 1 year left is reasonable I think.

Like everyone else I am sad to see him go but we are going in a different direction now so why not get some currency for him whilst we can.

He meant more to us then 30, but when you factor in age and how these deals for older players normally go. 30 isn’t the worst result. Take it and do something with it now, either package it up and move up the order or potentially on trade it for Stephenson.

Fair outcome for both parties.

It's quite funny that people on here are laughing at the hypothetical trades Collingwood supporters are coming up with regarding Stephenson yet thought we would get a 1st rounder in return for Higgins.

Pick 30 is about right - happy with that.
The difference was in my opinion Higgins was a lot more important for us than what Stephenson is to the Magpies.

Final day trades guaranteed to go down to wire
JON RALPH

The AFL will not allow clubs to submit trades before 3pm on the last day of the trade period on Thursday to retain an element of suspense.

The league last year moved its trade period finish to prime time, with the trade period to finish at 7.30pm on Thursday.

Last year there was a rush of late trades but Tom Papley and Joe Daniher's deals did not go through.

To ensure there is enough trade discussion the league has told clubs they cannot lodge any deals until the afternoon.

Any deal involving Collingwood's Adam Treloar could go down to the wire given Collingwood's determination to get him off their books, with the Dogs the only suitor.

While there has been much speculation about whether the league might shorten the trade period, it has monetised it with its Trade Radio program.

Fox Footy also carries a nightly trade show Trading Day, with media across the spectrum reporting exceptional numbers for all trade-related product.

The league has always been open about its intention to someday introduce a mid-season trade period.

Next year it may introduce a floating mid-season draft that sees clubs able to elevate players from state leagues after Round 4, Round 8 and Round 12.

Good idea as I'm currently working on the much anticipated and under appreciated North Melb Shitmen team of the century. Here's a teaser, Daniel McConnell is in the side and could even be Captain. Yes he was that good

And I may have a spot available for Constable.

Anyway back to business.

Range of options open up with 25 and 30.

Presuming 26 and 31 comes to the party, one of those goes for Stephenson and we trade up with the rest?
Don't think 25 & 30 is enough of a points bonus to tempt Western. 14 is 1161 points. 25 + 30 is 1415. 25 + 26 is 1485.

25 & 26 for 14, knowing they'll be eaten up by the JUH bid. 30 for Stephenson because Collingwood are bound to be dicks about wanting to have the pick before us, keep 31.
