For what possible gain to the NMFC?

Another season, maybe two.

An awesome year of 22 disposals a game off a half back flank in a season in which we finish 17th? Then he retires?

You still haven't accepted the rebuild. Shades of Trump Snake.

Now you're being disingenuous also. You very well know that he was deliberately hobbled with regard to what he could actually do in 2020, all in order to facilitate the crap game plan. Do you think Geelong want him to play him like that?

Don't treat me like a ****ing idiot Pykie, or I'll reciprocate.

So how do people suggest we get extra picks in the coming drafts then if not trading out guys like Higgins and Brown?
So we should hold onto them forever and just take 4 picks every year? I don't get it. You must trade players to get extra picks.
Would you rather trade out Ziebell (unlikely you trade your captain), Atley and Anderson?
Tell me how you accelerate the rebuild?

I would have kept him rather than cop pick 30. It's as simple as that.

Keep this bullsh1t for the simpletons.

Your serial pontificating of late is beginning to reach annoying levels.
Club has been pretty public in saying that given the change in circumstances since Shaun signed his last contract that they would not stand in his way of getting a deal from another club that allows him to extend his career. Not sure why posters would be extremely surprised or disappointed with pick 30.
It is not a bad deal for a guy who had a maximum of one more year at our club and could be parlayed into a very good long term player in the draft.

Correct.

Or a 5-7 year player via trade.

Or not having him could mean the difference between pick 1 and pick 4 next year.

As much as sentiment says keep him and stuff Geelong and their flag hopes, this is business and we are clearly not in a competitive window.

Oh, the hypocrisy. And your serial lack of self awareness is far from a recent phenomenon.

The simpletons are the ones who think it would have been fair to keep Higgo rather than take pick 30. Holding out for what, 26?

All the experts had us taking 38 with gratitude - pick 30 is a 35% improvement on draft points.

Applying the method to BBB, we were told 26 was good for us and we should be grateful - a 35% improvement would be the equivalent of pick 18 - won't get that, but a combination of picks to that value should be a fair test of Brady's stamina

COULD MAGPIES POUNCE ON BLUE? - 3:45pm

Collingwood is looking at Carlton’s Lochie O’Brien as a potential Jaidyn Stephenson replacement, reports Seven.

If the former Rising Star winner Stephenson does head to North Melbourne, as has been mooted, the Magpies have O’Brien in their sights according to Tom Browne.

O’Brien was a Collingwood fan growing up and has played 36 games since being drafted with Pick 10 in the 2017 draft.

“They might have an ambudance of outside mids, wings right at the moment,” former Carlton list boss Stephen Silvagni said on Trade Radio.

“Whether they’re trying to free up some money in the cap, or if the players they’ve brought in have put on a bit of a squeeze for next year - that could be the situation.

“He played 35 games in his first two years. I haven’t been there for 12 months ... but the coaching staff might want a certain type of player.

“He’s an outside, hard-running player. There's some areas in his game he really needs to get better at, but he brings some real assets that can actually help a team play well and make the ground bigger with his run.

“Yes you can get your money out, but this is a third-year player - I write this year off for a lot of players, so it’s two years really.”

Agreed.

The issue with Melbourne vs Geelong, is that we are dealing with Mahoney vs Wells.

Wells is experienced, gets deals done and is widely respected in the industry as being a reasonable negotiator.

Mahoney is less experienced and a bit more of an unknown.

Wanted a little more for Higgo, but I just hope in 2 years time i can sit back and say what a smart decision it was to let him go.

There would want to be a trade in the pipeline to justify it.

I'm referring to a good outside running player/prospect.

We’d be raging if we gave up pick 30 for a 32 year old

Correct.

It's quite similar to the Dal Santo situation.

It was fine given he was a FA, but I'm sure there would have been more than a few melts if we gave up a top 30 pick for him at the time.

Collingwood board are adamant that Stephenson hasn’t even met with North and it’s completely fake news

They've got a friend of the Stephenson family (his dads best mate or something) on there who has been posting there since they drafted him who seems close that said this morning it was false but if something changed in the last day which it appears to have then you can't bank on everybody being ITK.

"Look, I'm not saying they have and I'm not saying they haven't but it would be huge if true"

If people are upset about Higgo for pick 30, stand by for some colossal melts when the BBB trade is done.

Rather than assessing in isolation whether this is a bad trade or otherwise, perhaps we should wait to see whether pick 30 is to be used as part of something bigger.

They just got a 3rd for Hannan, if we were to only receive 1x 2nd, I'd imagine we'll end up in mediation at which point, Melbourne will be ordered to hand over a 2021 R1.
