Why? Based on what? He’s 21 with huge upside. This is a last roll of the dice for Higgins. He’s one injury away from it all being over. Stephenson is without doubt worth more than Higgins.

Normally I may entertain the idea but I think in North's situation I'd be more than happy to get the development into a younger player than have another first round pick death train like we had with Melbourne.

I think Adelaide can/will offer better. They hold the trump card with pick 1.
A deal with us or suffer the consequences type situation.

It doesn’t diminish the pool we have to choose from if tied players go before our pick. We’ll still be picking from the same pool of players we always had access to and would factor that in.... Been said a few times I think.

Trades will still be done surely, they just won't be submitted to the AFL.

The JS trade would become clearer if we knew how much the pies were contributing to his contract over the next x amount of years.

If it’s nothing, then anyone on here mentioning pick 11 or pick 26 leaving us in a trade for him needs to remove them self from this thread. Any of our second round picks in this situation is a no deal from me.

If they are paying half and we are paying half or something similar, then yes one of our second rounders is fair, but I definitely wouldn’t be giving our first pick in the second round, let them have one of the ones that follows, preferably our last.

Pies would be sweating absolute bullets tonight. If it gets to tomorrow arvo and they still have Phillips, Cox, Treloar and JS on there books, it will be a fire sale. Perfect time to bend them over

Stephenson is a pretty good player. Prefer the 2nd Rd pick but I have no issue swapping 11 for 16 and some pick swaps to get him. Take the opportunities when they come, don’t muck around. Get it done.

I do think though there might be some 2021 pick action, whether in this deal or another. I have a feeling we will be mid table next year, I think we back in the team and use clubs thoughts of a top 3 draft pick in 2021 to our advantage.

We have put a line through the academy players a long time ago, there is still a lot of talent there, Twomey who has generally been good with his first round phantom drafts hasn't even got O'Driscoll in his top 25, still a lot of talent in this draft. We can't turn 2019 pick 8 into 2020 pick 11 into pick 2021 pick 14+ we are going backwards and have lost two development years. We could have got Serong with pick 8, we need to make this draft count. I am happy with who we got last year but we need as much talent as humanly possible and right now.

Stephenson was not even on the table 24 hours ago and we were happy to take our picks and trades received for Brown and Higgins to the draft, or to upgrade current picks.

This opportunity has simply dropped into our laps, in no way do I see us being desperate enough to overpay, we have read the situation and will walk away if the deal isn’t right.

Collingwood are not holding the cards here.

So not sure why everyone is getting so twisted about this.

We have done the right thing by Higgo, received fair compensation, and will do the Stephenson deal only if it works.

They are not related.

Otherwise we say thanks but no thanks, walk away and leave them holding the can.

Surely clubs understand that in trading a player, a good pick and a salary dump are incompatible concepts.

I suspect a lot of the media don't, which drives the ridiculous discussion.

Yeah correct Tas - time we selected a player and got some games into him.
Especially with covid around , who knows if there will be junior footy next year.
