North, Demons deal for Brown helps Stephenson trade
By Michael Gleeson
North Melbourne and Melbourne are close to a deal to send Ben Brown to the Demons for an exchange of a suite of picks.
The deal, which is agreed in principal, cannot be lodged until later today after an AFL briefing.
The deal will centre on North giving up Brown and pick 28 and receive Melbourne’s pick 26 and either pick 31 or 33.
The clubs will also swap future late round picks.
North is confident the move strengthens their hand in negotiations for Collingwood’s Jaidyn Stephenson.
North sources believe they can secure Stephenson for a second round pick – possibly pick 26 from Melbourne - as they are prepared to take on all of Stephenson’s salary. The former rising star winner is contracted for almost $600,000 a year for the next three years.
Collingwood has argued they want pick 11 from North.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This is a crap deal for BB if true.
So in the context of JS as well it is Brown + 28 = JS + 31 (plus random pick upgrade in the 40s)
Not doing much for me, they should throw in 33 bare minimum.

Not if you look at as Brown for Stephenson swap.

They've lowballed us, and there's not much we can do about it given there are no other suitors.

Hope we pickup Stephenson for peanuts. Win some lose some.

We haven't accepted any of the previous 97 bullshit media scenarios before this so no reason to start now. Will wait until it is official before melting

If it's not the deal we want we should be saying we will walk him to the PSD and you can take your chances Melbourne

They'll get him in the PSD almost certainly. There's no real motivation for Melbourne to give up two picks given we don't want him.

The sooner people make peace with this and move on the better.

That's the key factor, that and the there's no other teams that are seemingly interested. I'd rather get something for a player we don't want that hold on to some moral victory of sending him to the PSD.

Agree. Save the PSD posturing for when a player is trying to leave and we don’t want them to go.

Points wise that puts Brown at 13.

If this is the case I hope the actual sticking point is having the dogs involved for their pick 14.

The core trade could be something like:

ClubIn Out
NorthPick 14Brown
MelbourneBrownI don't care
DogsI don't care14

there'd be finer details, it might be Brown + whateves.

but this can be the core.

BROWN DEAL READY TO BE SEALED
BEN BROWN will join Melbourne on Thursday.

A trade between the Demons and North Melbourne is understood to be in the final stages which will see the Kangaroos spearhead join Melbourne.

After some haggling over picks to get the deal done, the main action of the trade is expected in the second round, with one of the Dees' picks in the 30s understood to be heading to North and a slide of second-round picks likely as well.

No deals can be officially announced on Thursday until 3pm AEDT as the AFL backlogs trades for its prime time finish however Brown's move is expected to be formalised then.

North will have five picks inside the second round as they hit their rebuild under a new coach, while Melbourne has added important firepower to their forward line alongside youngsters Sam Weideman and Luke Jackson.

The Dees will leave the trade also with a strong hand with the ability to package their remaining two second-round picks and potentially push up the draft order.

The Roos face a busy final day of the trade period as they attempt to lure Collingwood goalkicker Jaidyn Stephenson to the club. - Callum Twomey

If you want to piss Cornes off call him Shane the Fireman.

Cornes' first day at an Adelaide Station the Chief introduced him in front of the crew as "Shane"
Cornes: Ah, Its Kane.
Cheif: So Shane tell us what you did before you joined the Firies.
Cornes: Ah, I played football.
Chief: Here that everyone, Shane played football.

Tweet him that sh*t.
