Out of contract (15): Sam Alabakis, Jack Billings (RFA), Oscar Clavarino (UFA), Leo Connolly, Luke Dunstan (UFA), James Frawley (UFA), Jarryn Geary (UFA), Paul Hunter (UFA), Darragh Joyce (UFA), Dean Kent, Jack Lonie, Seb Ross (UFA), Paddy Ryder, Cooper Sharman, Mason Wood (UFA)

If it were up to me I’m recontracting Clav, Leo, Geary, Joyce, Kent Ryder, Sharman, Wood and 1-2 of Ross/dunny/Billings.

Most on 1 years dealing outside of Billings, Leo and maybe Sharman.

That gives us 6 list spots for draft and trade not including the free ones we didn’t use this year.

If a club poaches Sharman , I hope our recruiters poach Nths pick 1 from mid season draft.
And if Sharman goes could we get anything for him trade wise or is he free to walk.
I highly doubt he‘s going anywhere.

Ross, Dunstan and Billings. You'd love to know how much we actually want to keep these guys.

I'd imagine JB is the one we'd really want to keep. Has had a disappointing season but been injury-affected. At his best he can be very good.

Dunstan seems to be gone, he'll get a decent contract offer better than what we are offering, probably 3 years which is the main thing he'd be looking for.

Ross is an enigma. He seemed really pissed off with the Cairns aftermath. He's a good player but has had some shocking moments this season. If I'm honest I wouldn't be upset to see him leave even if we probably don't have a replacement. It would mean I don't have to facepalm every time he does a no-look snap kick out of defence for a turnover at least.

It will be an interesting trade period to see where these three end up.

WTF is Connelly doing on that list??

Every single other name I understand not having a contract sown up two weeks out from September. But seriously, someone get on their fu**ing bike and sign Leo before the fu**ing silly season starts. Does not belong in that group!

I'm looking forward to draft and trade period, the Cerra trade along with Billings , Ross , Dunstan , Mat Crouch and a few surprises.
Guys like Narkle , Ricarddi , Brander , Tom Green , Hopper are still not signed so its going to be good.
We lose Ross and Dunstan we could easily use the picks to upgrade because the Dogs and the Pies need the points for father son selections.
Tom Green is contracted for 2 more years.

Reece Conca is available now, is he worth a punt? Would prefer him to Talia personally, but I'm not against Talia. This is only on the presumption that Carlisle and Frawley are gone.
The Herald Sun has an article about Jake, but I can't read it. I gather he's been told he won't get a contract for next year.
Yes Carlisle has been told.

Prefer to keep Billings out of the three. At a salary the club is happy with.
Sounds a bit like a Mexican standoff at the moment.

Thats not how it works.

Adelaide last year lost both Crouch and Atkins to FA and got seperate picks for both.

SO if we lose all three, it will be the 3 individual picks no matter what band they are. They don't add 3 average picks together to become 1 good pick.

Ahhh, cheers for clearing that up. It's probably better that way for us this year as it saves us having to find clubs to split pick with, the job is already done for us.

If I'm reading this correctly (net loss): if we lose Dunstan, Billings and Ross, we could end up with one really high pick or even more?
It seems like they won't hand out three individual picks, but add up their total value and then dish out our picks.

Based on age and their next contract, let's say Dunstan is end of 2nd round pick, Billings 2nd, Ross 3rd. The net of that would be about pick 8.
So we could very well head to the draft with consecutive picks 7 and 8. Billings might net us more as he's in his "prime" and might receive the largest contract, in which case we might receive pick 8 plus a 3rd round.

If we get pick 8 (depending where we finish, lower is better), I think we'd split this one for two early 2nds, and keep 7. We need a stack of picks this year.

===========================================================

Compensation

A club that has a net loss of players transferring to/from other clubs as free agents in one transfer period is entitled to compensation via National Draft picks allocated by the AFL.

The compensation formula produces a points rating for players based on:

1. The new contract of the free agent;
2. The age of the free agent.

Draft picks are allocated to clubs based on the net total points for free agents lost and gained during the transfer period.

Draft picks will be allocated to one of five places:

• 1st round
• end of 1st round
• 2nd round
• end of 2nd round
• 3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.
If we get a first for those 3 you best believe we are giving it and ours to the Suns

We love Sydney players.
I'd be having a look at Stephens too. Pick five only two years ago, seems like a second rounder would get it done now. Only played 13 games (not including two sub games). Liked him in his draft year and while I'd like for us to focus on developing internally, Stephens is still very young and has high end talent.

Reads like a future 2nd special. Exactly the type I hope we are looking to trade in.

I read Collingwood were interested, but would they have the picks available since they are already in trouble finding points for Daicos? Or the SA clubs might be enquiring too.

I'd suspect that he's got something wrong with him to be offered up. His numbers look terrible. I'd rather develop our own.

I'd rather Lipinski or Brodie if we are losing 2 players.

The numbers don't concern me. His high production in the championships suggest he can find it, but it is strange that Sydney would happily part with him. Have seen some commentary about a lack of a hard edge, so it's not a sure thing. I do think that Sydney have very specific views about the types of players they need though. They've had a willingness over the years to let go of players that don't fit into their system, even though the player is individually able to fit in smoothly at another club. On the other hand, he might just not be up to it. I'd hope we have a look at least.
