OK, i'll bite, I hate the way Crouch plays, I believe a large number of his possessions are utterly useless and have little impact. He makes our slow'ish midfield infinitely slower, cannot play anywhere but the middle and takes away opportunities for Clark, Gresh, Bytel and Byrnes to run through there. Don't want, even on a free.

I'd agree here. He might rack up the clearances, but his disposal seems absolutely blind.

Matt Crouch is 26 and is younger than Billings , he is already a All Australian and if not for this year has not missed to many games.
Over his career he has a average of 28 possessions a game which is incredible.
If he wants to join his brother no problems , makes up for losing Dunstan and is a upgrade.
Talia is another matter at nearly 30 I wouldn't be looking at him and hopefully we have learnt from Frawley.
Didn't Adeliade bugger up Brad Crouch'es groing as well? Seems to be going fine now he is out of there.

Over his career Crouch has been rather solid and not missed a great deal of football.
He is also a BnF winner and All Australian.

yeah his missed this year. But we don’t know how bad that groin is or if it was a case of I’m leaving and I’ll just take the year off and get myself cherry ripe for my new club.

Talia is an injury concern. But is a bonafide gun defender and we are lacking a genuine key back to go with Howard.

if both passed medicals. Why say no?

your talking substantial improvements on Carlisle/Frawley and Dunstan.
I suppose Hannebery passed a medical?

Yeah the same way Burgoyne did at Hawthorn when he completed his on crutches and they hoped he would give them 3-5 years max according to Dunstall.

half a century later and 3 flags he finally pulled the pin.

Steele had a broken foot when he came to the Saints. SHould have passed on him....................

That is what it says , they never offered him a contract - so he is de-listed which means we get nothing for him - strange if its true.

Are you sure.
To me he's un-contracted.
Do you have to have a contract on offer to be a "free agent"?
They are listed until they are de-listed. Listing is not a contract.

Come on, I doubt we keep Frawley AND pick up Talia. You think we'd do that?
McKernan gone, Roberton gone.
And we didn't fill our list spots, and were able to bring players in during the mid season draft. It's not like having those players hindered us. Not having a few of them did.
Seasons over and still have not made the call on Frawley - I thought Geary would retire but he signed another contract.
Being mates of Roughead and Ratten who knows.

Yeah, if he stays he stays. He actually looked good when fit early on.
But I don't think the Talia thing happens if Frawley stays, and if he replaces Frawley we try again. I don't think the strategy is a bad one at all for key positions. Kids just can't come in and do it, good players in their 20s don't come cheap. Taking a punt is OK.

Matt Crouch has already had his operation and was back playing VFL and talking about injuries Gresham would be classed far worse.
I'm not a fan of Matt Crouch but he is a by far a bigger upgrade on Dunstan and if one of Steele or Brad Crouch goes down we have experience to fill the void ,.

Ahahaha Billings. **** me. What shit show this has become.

Jack Billings has a multi-year deal in front of him but the free agent is unsure what he wants to do. It’s not about money, but more the opportunity to play in a flag for the left-footer. There’s a bit of change around at St Kilda. Jake Carlisle has called time on his career, while fellow defender James Frawley managed just two senior games this season amid injury setbacks and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen for him after coming on board at the end of last year. Foxfooty.com.au senior reporter Tom Morris explained earlier this month Seb Ross was testing the market, while Luke Dunstan was dropped for the final game of the season despite a stunning career resurgence, which suggests he’ll be playing elsewhere next year. The Gold Coast Suns are one of the clubs considering him. Injuries are wreaking havoc on Paddy Ryder, but his importance to the side suggests he at least gets one more year.

We've tried Sincs as a mid. He's way more effective in the role he is playing now. Why would we change it back?

He did ok when he was purely on the wing. Webster could also have a shot at that role, he'd be a good link up player with his pace and marking.
Even Paton was mentioned as potential midfield before he was drafted.

If Billings is leaving to "try to play in a flag" then that says all we need to know about him.

Doubt it's true though.

It'll be interesting to see what we do with the key defensive unit. We probably could still do with another genuine KPD so I don't hate the Talia idea. I'm not sold on it though, with his injuries.

Howard has done a solid job over the past two years, but he's not an elite key defender His defensive one on one loss rate isn't great at 28.1%. May, Andrews, Weitering and Aliir all under 21%. 16th for intercept marks, which is fine, but not elite. 46 intercept marks from Howard this year. Weitering, Aliir and Andrews are the benchmark for number one KPDs in this area - all above 70. Howard is high in spoils to his credit. He is strong at covering ground, coming over the top of a contest and thumping it out of play - a valuable asset.

Neither of those are bad numbers, but they don't put him in the mix for a top five or six KPD. I'd probably have him in the 7-13ish range. Got to work with what we have though, and he is an important player for us. He's prone to the occasional brain fade. We don't help ourselves by having him do so many kick outs. We started to spread the load in the back end of the season, but it dragged on for far too long with Howard taking the majority. It isn't good for the team and I don't think it's good for him. Simplify his role and let him focus on other things.

Wilkie does a bloody good job on the second or even first talls for someone of his size. He keeps it simple with positioning and has great defensive craft. Defensive one on one loss rate of 26% this year, which I think is pretty good considering he played on considerably better/bigger opponents than he has in previous years where he's been the third tall. Ideally, he would go back to taking the third tall/dangerous mid sizers, but Highmore must be prioritised. Highmore is the one who has genuinely elite potential with his intercepting ability.

If the midfield apply good pressure to the entries, I think those three as a tall defensive trio are sufficient and can get the job done. I do still have concerns that it lacks a bigger bodied lockdown defender type but as we saw with Frawley this year - that option isn't necessarily an easy one to find.

If Billings is more worried about winning a flag let him go , if he thinks we are not up to it - crap / its all about the money

Ryder is a bonus if he plays if he doesn't so be it - we know that - this is why we are looking at getting a ruck / forward but he is the mentor Marshall and know Heath need.

We lose Billings it just shows how money can effect a player , he was given a massive 800k a year for a couple years on basically potential but showed he was a good half forward and no club can pay a role player that.
No way he will get near that figure again and at best he might get offered 650k from a club.

Our currently list is just missing a few pieces and we will be set , the media never looks at St Kilda in a positive light.
Thank god we have Leathlean and Gags running the show otherwise we will end up like the Pies.

To be honest. They can all piss off.

Ross Dunstan Billings.

Let him go to port. I’ll take their first rounder and go complete Dodoro and Bell and push for pick swaps etc to go along with it.
