I see the media is looking at how teams are eyeing off there players , I wonder if they look how they quickly off load a player they don't want that is costing them money.
And how they can be gifted a end of first round pick and then offload as part of a salary dump.

It's time the AFL pack up the Gold Coast.

From the get go it's been a mess and one of the worst things was they recruited Hunt who it was later found out to be par taking in the white stuff with a few of the young lads , no wonder Bennell went off the rails and who el
I understand Veers point but we all know why he left , he thought he was never given a chance - the truth is he can only play in the inside mid position which is one of the most valued positions because they are needed to win the ball , which he can do but when you can't kick you basically can't play that position.
It's a shame because he dedicated his career to St Kilda and for it to end like this is never a good look.
I hope he shows how good he is for the Gold Coast Suns.

A lot of Saints have followed Luke through his career and never like it when a guy who's played well over a 100 games gets slagged by the supporters.
I’ll go a step further…. The fantastic draft crop we believed we were getting in 2013 & 2014 when we were bottom of the ladder are bloody shithouse.

Scary &when looking at it now…

Billings Dunstan Acres
McCartin Goddard McKenzie & Lonie

5 1st round draft picks & the best player from those 2 years is the bloke we took with Pick 1 in the bloody Rookie Draft!

Jack Sinclair

Honestly if you were a half decent player like Ross or Billings, but nowhere near best 22 in a tip 4 side wouldn’t you sign on with a bottom half team struggling to hit the salary cap like we were??
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
#bigfish
On what planet is Billings nowhere near best 22 in a top 4 side!?

Seb was also our best player across our two finals last year, including doing an excellent job on Bontempelli.

Hopefully if he stays this gives him the reality check he needs to get right back to his best- which was good enough to make an AA squad, finish top 10 in the coaches votes and win two B&F’s.

Wonder why Ross hasn’t signed yet.. is he upset with the way it was handled when he left to go home from the hub to be with his family. In the end of the day he has been offered a 3 year deal if he is good enough… has been payed well in the past. Geelong players just take this kind of deal .
I'm on record as being firmly in the Billings And Ross Out camp. At this stage it seems that they'll both continue to be at St Kilda. Bah.

The only way I can turn this into a positive in my head is hopefully they hit the next season with something to prove to not only the club and its fans but the greater AFL community, who damned them both with faint praise and lukewarm interest. Hopefully, they have now realised that two B&Fs in a crummy side and pick 3 in the National Draft mean nothing. And a strong pre-season on the track and good time trials are just the minimum of what's required.

These two players have to look at their hurt factor. For Seb, it's about execution. He'd be a good 3rd/4th option in the midfield for most clubs, why isn't anyone interested; that's what he has to ask himself and the answer is clear; disposal and leadership, two areas he has always lacked. We know that his kicks and handballs generally favour the opposing team. He's too nice, and having a shaved head and moustache couldn't hide the fact that he rarely flies the flag for his teammates. And that brings me to his equally placid teammate Billings.

This guy is still a kid despite being about to enter his 8th season. He picks and chooses his moments which are few and far between and is good for one or two games a season where he grabs a game by the scruff. His honours probably include a few BOGs and very low ranking in the B&F which tells the tale.

Footy clubs don't particularly rate either player and their careers both face ending with less than a whimper, more like fading out in a fog of indifference. They have the power to find something inside themselves that transform the last pages of the book of their playing years into something more compelling. I really hope that they do enough soul-searching to help them find and use that power.

Anyone considering trading Coffield is a idiot , 21yr old who can actually play and has massive scope - Parish and even Petracca only showed a flash of brilliance all until they were 24 and we are willing to offload a kid who could play a few more roles than a halfback flanker.
Back the kid in for christ's sake.
Agree +1, talking of trading Coff is the meaning of idiocy.

I hope he is a GC sun playing in the centre against us. Kick it all day luke, especially inside 50 please.

While I can understand why the club isn't keen to re-contract Luke, but to say that he is 'no good' is rubbish and unnecessary IMO… despite obvious limitations, he's polled brownlow votes in 6 of his only 12 games in two years… no need to give a really loyal saint a kick on the way out, all this sh*t about his character is really poor, maybe he was playing for himself in his last game… who could blame him.

He bled for the club and didn't leave anything out on the park… I wish a few other more athletically gifted played and trained with the same intent and attitude.
He's no good

Interesting take. Half way through the second quarter we were destroying them. I remember thinking we could win the game by 100 points. Then they got on top of us. Not sure what happened but it was a major turning point for our season.
That’s how I saw it too
To be honest yes they improved but it looked like we simply ran out of gas
I put a lot of that game down to be a poor pre season
If that occurs again Ratten ought to be held accountable

The worst thing about Dunstan is not really about him - its about the fact that we had no one clearly better than him to fill his spot in the team.

Maybe so. Although, I would rather pump games into Bytel, then carry Dunstan for another season. One of them actually has a high ceiling and can play for us well into the future. It’ll be right 👍🏽

Back online watching my clubs 9th flag since 2004.

Mayo sadly had a quiet game but the conditions were slippery not rainy. He seemed to hit the packs hard and get his hands to the footy but not clunk them. It's a pity cause his last game against south was as dominant I've seen from a CHF at subi in a long long time. Leading up to this he was marking everything. Just a pity today they didn't stick.

The guy has it. Moves well. Isn't scared. Demands the footy. He looks in awesome nick. It's like Glen jackovich reincarnate.

Here's another name. Nick Martin. He has something.

The reserves were played earlier in the day. Johnsons game I feel isn't a good barometer. It looked like he was playing a pure shutdown role which was super frustrating. I wish he had a run at it. I am worried he has shades of acres though.

Borchet awesome in the reserves. I think 2nd game back after a leg injury saw him miss alot of the season. He would have probably played in Mayo's spot if he didn't get injured.

We ain't missing Parker. He's not a fwd. Not good enough in the midfield. Ball use poor.

So just to be clear instead of going for players like Brodie or Constable many prefer Naish because he is cheap and the coaches instructions would be pretty simple for him to understand?

I tell you what the subi senior coach is interesting. He's not an ex player. Only umpired. Took the colts to their first flag in a couple of decades. Then has developed those kids into good senior players.

Reason why I bring it up on here...

He seems to have taken a new philosophy to how he utilises players. He doesn't really use them in set positions or roles. He cycles them through pretty much every line. For example Mayo went to CHB for a portion. You have guys on the HBF running through the center.

It seems to have this strong philosophy of using literally everyone across all lines.

Tbh I think it works. They just seem to find sparks from unlikely positional changes. Players seem to really round their game out development wise.

I guess it similar to how ratten had used battle.

He is very strong on mids not floating back behind the play though for cheapies. Guys like seb ross and Dunstan would not last long there.

I'd rather have Naish because Constable and Brodie are slow accumulator types. We already have Steele, Crouch, Bytel and potentially Ross and Dunstan, we don't need more like them. Naish offers something else

I think the issue with brodie will be the salary. We just don't have the space in the cap or the appetite for longer term deals.

I thinks there's some ducks and drakes going on between us and essendon in that regard. I think essendon are trying to get us to commit more of our cap to depth. Hopefully we don't bite.

From 2013 and 2014 we have
Jack Billings
Zac Jones
Dan McKenzie
Jack Steele
Dougal Howard
Jack Sinclair

All first 22 players first and second in the B&F.
Was never a good crop compromised drafts. Our haul has turned out fine.

Constable is the same as many mids we have, Naish will slot straight into Ross' role and will cost little.
Why trade for a player we have an abundance of?

I would like to happily be wrong when it comes to Naish but i guess i don't see him like both of you do. Naish seems more like a Butler type then Ross and from what i have seen Bytel is the main person to play is roll with the hope of Allison coming through. For their size Constable and Brodie are actually quite adept at getting the ball from their limited game. Naish only seems to get a possession if it is given to him. This year we only had two players have over 90 tackles Melbourne had 6 and 2 players having over 150 contested possessions Melbourne had 9. With Dunstan gone who are our extractors? Hopefully Zak can stay injury free next year but right now its just Steele and Crouch. You can always find a kid with toe but those willing to get there head knocked off to get the ball are like hens teeth.

We’ve traded to get 3 of those 6 blokes

Goes back to what I said earlier in the week with our past drafting & poor development has meant we are never ahead of the curve & always overspending at the trade table because our past drafting is horrendous
