Autopsy 2022 Accountability and moving forward

Jonas, Motlop, Gray, Clurey, McKenzie, Frederick, Skinner, Mayes, McEntee and Williams at the very least.
I agree with Motlop, Mayes and McEntee. Williams hasn't gotten a go of it yet. Gray deserves to retire on his own terms. But you're also suggesting we go into a new season with 1 key defender.

I've happily come to the conclusion that making huge calls on our list while operating under the current coaching structure, with the current "game plan" is futile. Look at Marshall who flourished and finally took that net step once Charlie was injured and we stopped kicking it to his shadow earlier this year. The club will hang this season on those early injuries to blokes like Dixon and Allir, but really, that patch exposed our current coaching panel for the slow moving, uninspired potato that it is. Rozee also came into his own when he was forced to spend more time in the middle. These moves were basically made with a gun to the coaches head. It makes you wonder how many players we've hobbled over the years. If Ken's going to be there another 3 years, then sure, cut all you want, those players wont be the deciding factor anyway. If we're serious, and are looking at a change of coach, then I'd like to see some of these guys given another go around under a new regime.

Whilst this thread is built on a good premise and a good idea do you expect any accountability from our club at all for this year?

Hinkley said last year don't judge us until after the finals, then when the ass fell out in spectacular fashion quickly flipped it to don't judge as after one game, judge us for the season we had.

That's the level of accountability currently at Alberton. Where expectations are chopped & changed to suit the s**t they dish up. It happened this year with Hinkley saying we're coming for the flag, to sitting 0-5 to articles coming out weekly about how well we've done to get to 8-9 from 0-5. Forgetting Hinkley planted his flag by stating we were coming for the Premiership.

Cripes.

A gentle reminder that playing as a key defender in a very good side is really easy and that playing key forward in any side, especially an average one, is really hard.

Geelong would have Georgiades 10kg heavier, moving suspiciously well despite that and dining out as a 3rd banana developing key forward in a way not seen since Jono Brown in the early aughts.
And his hairline would have mysteriously moved a couple of inches back already. Weird.

A simple but critical sign of the club becoming accountable for those nonsensical coach extensions and the resultant utter failure of it, would be that Koch is removed via a board spill. I've been imagining it for this entire year after a particular person joined the board.

Don't forget the club sanctioned media telling us Hinkley has never coached better.

This is the guy who played Sam Mayes at full forward against the reigning premier, rushed in a mid-season draft pick after one sanfl game who then was duly injured, played Fanatasia as a medical sub with no games, takes key forwards out of the structure to play as rucks, continually coaches losses in crucial games becasue we can't score enough and then concede strings of 7-8 goals for leads which we are no chance of reeling in, continually picks promising young players as emergencies then sends them back to the sanfl to play gold carders who did something in the sanfl.

There's Port's response to accountability.

Yeah but apart from those small hiccups, he's coaching OK, right? :)

Objectively, you'd have to say that this is the worst season under Hinkley.
How can that possibly equate to him coaching at his best?

Because the guy who was coaching us for the first 5 weeks left poor Hinkers in a 0-5 hole, it's not his fault.

Nope, but it is definitely worth discussing though.

There will be no accountability - the style most of us want - until Hinkley is gone.

Then the next poor bastard who coaches Port, especially if its a new first time coach, will cop it from the board and admin.

What about the players who are now conditioned to mediocrity? Culture shock

I thought a little snippet of the Jack Cahill podcast this week was interesting. Jack said to Darren not to join the Port board because I think he said it wasn't worth it. Then didn't elaborate at all.
I get the feeling the ex-players know what a spud he is.
Jack is probably good friends with a few who have already been burnt out by Koch.

Have a listen to Jack on accountability.

You are so right here, that's why we need a tough strong new coach, someone capable of turning around the mindset of the players.

Clarkson would be my choice because of this reason, if we say get a Kingsley would he have what it takes to try and change a whole club culture?

I listen to this and think 10 year kenneth!

Richos appointment was not what we needed, we desperately need well credentialed outsiders to shake the place up. We've had way too many internally conducted reviews & appointed too many ex Port players. Everyone's priority is to protect their jobs rather than strive for ultimate team success. This mentality always leads to mediocrity.

Nobody can shake things up. Anyone who tries it will get fired. The board doesn't want to make changes. It's that simple.

you have to get rid of the losers on the board but how will that even happen? if our club is AFL controlled how do we possibly get the AFL, collingwood, west coast etc. people out of there?

Rooch has no shame. When he was at the Advertiser he would take down coaches for way less failure than Hinkley has dished up.

If Hinkley was at the crows instead of port, rooch would smash him. He already goes after Nicks.

If we could spill the board, it would absolutely already have been done. It sucks. Koch is accountable only to the AFL and his remit is to simply keep us a going concern.

Under the current system, the only way we have success is if we luck into the AFL appointing a chairman who is a ruthless winner.

From Mick McGuanes column today

"Since 2013 Gelling and Port Adelaide have not finished below 10th on the ladder"

That's as good as a premiership for our board.
Whereas Port boards of yesteryear would have been lamenting the fact that since 2007, the club hasn't finished above third.
