Agreed.

This is the reality check for those SA kids.

Realistically, there are some late first and second round talents MAYBE, but nothing that should feature in the first half dozen selections, and that includes Phillipou.
Phillipou is top 10 talent without a single doubt and I'd think our likely 1st pick...hard to judge blokes like Keeler and Lemmey in today's conditions that didn't suit overhead marking.

Jhye Clark in the midfield and Aaron Cadman up forward on fire for Vic Country.

Don't be discounting Jhye Clark for us either, one of the better kicks of the mids in this draft.

I don't think Phillipou is top five, and I think our pick will be.

As a reminder on how forgettable Knightmare is a draft reporter, here's his video from a couple of months ago, when he says this will be a fantastic year for SA draftees and a really bad year for Victorian kids. Not sure he could have been more wrong.

Yep, reckon Hamish would love Clark
So he should, he's an exceptional midfield prospect, great inside the contest, has the ability to get on the outside as well and one of the best mids when it comes to kicking into the forward 50.

If we drafted yet another 180cm inside mid this board would implode.

180cm?

Maybe wait until the Draft Combine to get the official measurement.

Queenscliff midfielder Jhye Clark, one of the youngest players to make his Bellarine league debut, has been touted as Geelong Falcons’ top draft prospect next year.
Early indications are Clark will be a first-round contender and possibly as high as a top-10 selection.

Clark, the son of local coaching great Steve, announced himself to AFL recruiters by claiming the Bartram Medal as Vic Country’s best player at the under-17 national championshipsthis year.

The 183cm onballer was listed as Vic Country’s best player in both its games, also shining against men as a 16-year-old for Queenscliff in his three senior appearances for the Coutas.
Clark has established himself as an inside midfielder but Corrigan said he was also good above his head.

“His work ethic is terrific but his ability to not only win the ball, but his pressure side of things and his defensive side of things as well is really impressive,” he said.

“One thing that stands out a little bit more, especially at his size, is he’s so strong overhead.

“He’s got that string to his bow that can be added to his game pushing forward. He’s actually quite a hard match up because he really goes for his marks.”

His best case projection as a Bontempelli-type tall midfielder with the ability to go forward and kick goals will push him into the top 5 conversation IMO. Didn’t hurt his stock today.
Who wouldn’t want that?? I wanted him from early because unlike any midfielder we have, he can kick goals on a consistent basic and will play straight away as a forward

Our problem isn't that our mids are small (which they are), it's that we don't have enough mids that can exit the contest and hit targets inside 50.

Give me class over height any day, so long as they have a weapon to exit stoppages.

Gold Coast is a side that the league needed to be competitive, and other clubs were picking off players.

North is just another side who's chosen to go backwards by making deeps cuts to their list.

You can't compare how much more of a priority GC is for AFL House, in comparison to North Melbourne.

AFL house is actively invested in the success of Gold Coast

I’m not even sure they’re neutral on North, they’d happily **** them off if they could.

Who wouldn't want the best case projection?

I like that he's young and has great upside, but he's yet to really show a full, dominant game. Injury niggles have maybe prevented that, but you'd be guessing a bit with him (more than with other juniors who have actually given evidence of their dominance).

The thing that will stick in the craw is that it has the potential for phillipou to end up at port. Tsatsas might be too good to pass up for us and if port end up with pick 8 or 9, phillipou might be still there and they could get very lucky.

Wow

Best on for SA, I must have watched a different game.

Will Dowling, Adam D'Aloia, Jakob Ryan, Kobe Ryan and Harvey Peddler would have been my top 5.
Phillipou before he picked up a niggle was clearly SA's best.

eDPS you watched the game live who were your bests.

Pick 3 firmly ours with Hawks and Essendon winning. Probably pushed out to pick 4 if Ashcroft nominates for Brisbane

You'd think that is certain as he'll otherwise end up staying in Melbourne with LOLNorf, go to Perth or Adelaide. Top 4 team your father played for and warm winters seems a no brainer.

So much tempting SA talent will be gone by our second, we must find a way to get more picks by utilising 2023 picks, turbo charge the rebuild, strike now with SA talent.

Go to the game thread on phantom drafts board and you will find it

The difference between the NAB League as a development pathway compared to the other states on show at Simmonds Stadium today...

Combine the best of the VM and VC teams and no other state would get within 10 goals.
We really should replicate this in SA.

Scrap the Under-age zones for SANFL clubs, set up six or so u/18 teams. Fund it well, SANFL make enough via SMA.

Allows the kids to play all roles and not just peripheral roles, unless they are very good.

Far better for development. Moreso for the "average" kids. Guys like JHF will play proper roles in SANFL league sides. But guys in lower levels will benefit from better funded dedicated under age system.

After AFL draft, the SANFL has a draft for undrafted players. Or farmed out to SANFL clubs based on the old zond/residential address.

SANFL will never do this though.

A few reputations have taken a big hit amongst the SA boys at the Championships when pitted up against the two Victorian teams, especially yesterday with Vic Metro minus at least two top end lads Wardlaw and Tsatas.
I think probably the only 2 certain SA 1st rounders are Phillipou and Keeler now? Thoughts Jeffcrowe
