Yep. Happy with the pick. They don't always work out (Macreadie didn't) but there was a reason why Lemmey (and Macreadie) was rated so highly at one point or another pre-draft.

When they do work they change the entire fortune of a club.
Just saw that Rookie Central had Lemmey ranked at pick #9 as late as June.

Don’t see anything Macreadie about him at all, bizarre statement

At about the same time before their draft both Lemmey and Macreadie were rated as the top prospect in their respective draft class.

Both slid down to about the same point in the draft.

Very different players.

Dang - missed it - anything interesting?
Just spoke about how we really wanted to increase the running capacity of the team and think the first few picks + Acres will help with that. On Lemmey he said they liked him in defence during the season but focus will be on developing his forward game under Harry and Charlie

Is it though? Are we hoping to solve our midfield pressure with defensive players who don't solve the defensive shortcomings we had, such as defending against small forwards, and defending against quick leading types, oh and just generally letting the entire opposition midfield lope through the middle?

Hollands was the only one of those first three picks that genuinely solved that, just too high given the star power on the board that could have also made a massive impact. If it turns out we've grabbed Cowan to immediately send Docherty into the middle, I'm not going to enjoy white knuckling the consequences in open play. Docherty definitely added centre bounce pressure though.

Our biggest issue with letting opposition midfielders waltz through the middle was the lack of endurance from some of our players. We've certainly added endurance to our list so a lot more players are going to be getting back to help out a lot more often, if they can win the spots from the incumbents.

It would be nice to know that when the likes of Kennedy and Cripps have set up a lead, they can get more bench time because we have endurance beasts everywhere who do not need the same amount of rest.

I'll say it now Cowan will end up the best player we have taken in this years draft
I think Jack Sinclair is his ceiling, got a lot of tools

Newnes? Also, you're chatting to someone who never really liked Stocker as a defender, and believes he would have found out the required standard in midfield by getting to play there.

Look, coaches should get a say, but this loud mouth s**t was Voss' problem at Brisbane, and this boring s**t was Agresta's problem at Sydney. I understand that we have speed on the list if things go well with Cuningham, Honey, Philp, Williams and maybe Kemp go well... but historical evidence is very much not in our favour.

What's the point of getting better kicks if no one can separate from their opponents effectively? We hoping to leap over the top of everyone and get 40 contested marks a game?

This screams sabremetrics modelling, but what the * is the model and are they aware they accidentally used VFL data to make a determination?

I'm not willing to criticize Voss's game plan or his coaching group's thinking in terms of list requirements in their first year Jim.

I'm happy to see investment in draftees who can run, it is a good base to start their development and build on.

Looking forward, the Club needs to find a second young ruck/ forward to commence developing and also a proper KPD to start developing - I don't think all things can be done in one draft.

As for '23 : Cuningham/Honey should come good in '23 if they stay fit and on the park - that will go a long way to solving for the lack of factor X in the forward rotations I suspect. Durdin / Motlop haven't disappointed either really.

IMO we are still a couple of genuine mids short on the list - and the third tall position has to be sorted because Jack isn't a goal kicker.

We should play finals and find out more about who can and who cant in '23.

We've added endurance ot he list but how many of them will be replacing the incumbents? Guys like Cripps and Kennedy aren't going to be replaced by these runners.

I believe part of the endurance failure occured because our forward line had Fisher, Durdin, Motlop, and Owies operating simultaneously.

I think it could have been pretty strongly solved by addressing that. I also believe that Kennedy isn't really a physical midfielder when he needs to be, and Docherty showed him up in a couple of appearances in that respect. I think that we can also solve for this by having players who can not only identify how to win the football, but have the athletic tools to seize those moments more often.

I still have slim hopes for Dow being one of those players, but happily believe that Setterfield could have done it too if given licence. Clearly Essendon do, and clearly we went too far in giving Kennedy three years given a long, long, long history of lower leg issues.

We passed on our last pick, and are intending to use it on rookie’ing Ed.

Question. Is he worth it anymore? Would we have been better off going for more youth, another KPP?
We’ve just drafted two endurance beasts, we also traded in acres for the wing. Do we need Ed anymore? Endurance beast was his thing. What will he offer next year for us?
