Say what? You speak like everyone wants to escape Tassie. This old Tasmanian, dragged out kicking and screaming in my youth, very much thinks otherwise. Yes employment opportunities are greater interstate, but I reckon most Tassie lads would embrace the opportunity to play for their state with the same, or even greater earning potential than elsewhere.

Circumstance put me out of the state I love and kept me out. I am really over the disrespect shown the state as the debate of a Tassie team continues. The rhetoric around sending struggling clubs to Tassie as opposed to a stand alone team is equally insulting. If there is a brain in the AFL management team, they would understand that a relocated team would get a degree of support, but not comparable to a state team. As an expat, I would not support a relocated team over my beloved Blues, but a stand alone team would challenge my one-eyed allegiance. A genuine Tasmanian entity will get support they could not imagine.

To suggest it would be hard to lure Tassie boys home from “the big smoke” is ludicrous.
Probably a bit of an overreaction there Coona - I'm definitely not have a crack. As a Tassie lad I agree the lure of coming back home is strong but plenty want to get out, experience life in Melb/Syd or further abroad, see the world and then return home when ready to settle.

Definitely my experience and many of my friends and family. The Tas lifestyle is amazing but definitely lacks a little excitement for the average 20y/o and there is a whole world out there to explore.

Yes, playing for a Tassie team would be a lure for some but how many players have we lost to WA, SA QLD or NSW recently? You can't rule out drafting talent in case they may go home - back in the culture and get into premiership contention. Success and team culture will be just as strong a motivator.

Win flags with the blues, take a big final paycheck at 30 to move home, play for Tassie and start a family - simple!

Thinking the player “exodus” to second tier state league teams is more about a path to the big time. It seems AFL recruiters continue to discount the merits of the local boys. A season in the SANFL or other is becoming a path to the big league for so many. I don’t believe it is about experiencing life in the fast lane.

Or is it the impending Tassie team is making recruiters think twice about losing players in their prime?

Kid going around called Harvey Gallagher. Small fwd moved to the backline. Has Caleb Daniel attributes including by foot. Any intel.

Overage. Played for our seconds early in year. Was as a forward. Moved back later in year with prolific results. Didn’t notice any elite traits, despite being a handy player. We only look like taking three picks and likely need a couple of talls in that. Not sure we have the scope to contemplate taking him.

If we are taking a budget defender could do worse than Heath Ramshaw who excelled in his three late games in the twos. (Not to mention Cincotta who is a bit older) Tyreece Leui and Ned Cahill would also be under consideration as late/rookie picks ifa couple more players leave.

Would Gallagher offer any more than Boyd, who is already on our list and fighting for a spot in most people's Best 22?

I noticed Gallagher as I was regularly confusing him with Honey. Has a lot of promise as an athletic general/small forward, so interested to see how he elevated his game as a defender.

What makes you think we are only taking 3 picks?

We currently have 4 picks, a pock hopefully coming for Jones and it seems we are happy to let Setters go. Unless we are looking to trade up, I woukd be disappointed with 3

We have to trade for Acres (unless Freo take a future), Owies must be upgraded. We must “lose” another main list player to take three picks, let alone four. (Might be done by shifting someone to the rookie list)

We might gain another pick by shifting someone to the rookie list

The downgraded to rookie list trick worked wonders for Kennedy and LOB!

Regardless of whether we want another pick, we should be doing this to an underperforming player every year!!!

:p :p :p

So I’ve decided on who I think we should get based on the picks we have. Lachlan Cowan from tassie is what I’d like us to get with our 2nd pick and Bailey Humphries with our 1st pick. We need leg speed, power and directness and these two offer that in abundance. Both are tough nuts. Both can put a shift in defensively as well but I think the fact that they can come in and put pressure on our senior team is exactly why they would be perfect. They also both have a bit of size to them and can play in the middle in the future as well. They possess leadership qualities as they captain their own sides. Now they aren’t the most skilled players in this draft but they are very self driven so I think the coaches don’t need to put too much time into them to see any progress.

A special shout out to Ollie hollands. He’s worth looking at but he is still quite light to have an immediate impact but his work rate is second to none. Wouldn’t mind picking him as well.

All have good to tremendous work rate and if we brought all three over somehow then that could have a major impact on what the club does in the near future.

After an afternoon of procrastinating at work and watching 50+ highlight videos I've come to decide on Elijah Hewett for our pick (assuming Busslinger and Clarke don't make it through to 10).

Don't really rate Sheezel, Humphrey McKenzie or Hustwaite.

Also Hollands is a likely type but may be a reach at our pick.

Isn’t Elijah Hewett an inside mid?

we don’t need another one of them.

Is this just Liam stocker 2.0?

Ive got no idea so feel free to correct me
