I think most just assume he'll be gone before our pick. What are people's thoughts on Philippou? Rarely see his name raised in this thread, but he has been the one I've wanted since I started taking notice of profiles. Size, speed, endurance, inside-outside, can tackle, win clearances and can play forward and kick goals. Also one of the youngest in the draft year. Probably won't make it to us but hoping he slides past a few bolters - think he would be perfect and could start on a wing/hff rotation before moving to into the midfield in later years...

And he's a big inside mid, which is not one of our needs. Huge talent but just can't see itI think most just assume he'll be gone before our pick.
Mattaes Phillipou is for mine the shining light in a relatively dull draft. There are a myriad of very decent players, but I see few with a point of difference. It is exceptionally hard to see Phillipou get past Port Adelaide’s pick. (Said earlier I see the only hope is if they reach for a key forward - their shakiest position. Jefferson) Phillipou is the one who could potentially reach Fyfe, Bontempelli type levels as a mid/forward).What are people's thoughts on Philippou? I guess I viewed him as more versatile than just an inside mid, can play inside or out and rest forward. He is probably out of our range anyway unless we trade up or get very luckyAnd he's a big inside mid, which is not one of our needs. Huge talent but just can't see it

Seems to be very mixed views on Holland's disposal, don't see we could go wrong with Jedd Busslinger if he makes it to our selection, onceMattaes Phillipou is for mine the shining light in a relatively dull draft. I have been spruiking Hollands a footballer, athlete, two way runner with decent disposal, but would take Phillipou over him in a heartbeat if he was to slide.
I think he has almost the highest ceiling in the draft. If he's there I think we need to take him. What are people's thoughts on Philippou? Fun fact - Carlton have only ever had 2x picks at #10:
2017 - LOB
2015 - McKay
I am perplexed at the number of posters spruiking Busslinger or even Hayes at our pick. I recognise a developing young key defender would be a good thing, but am astounded with Weitering and Young that posters think we need another high end key defender. Durdin is good short term depth, so we have time to develop someone. We have Marchbank, McGovern and Kemp as third talls, two of whom can pinch hit as undersized keys.Seems to be very mixed views on Holland's disposal, don't see we could go wrong with Jedd Busslinger if he makes it to our selection, once
he puts on a little size can see him being a 200 game key defender.
Phillipou looks a safe selection, it will be interesting to see if we look to trade up some spots if we have identified someone we really want.
i am still of the view with your 1st selection to take the best available, there are some key forwards in the mix if they make it our selection, l am more the view you can use other elements of trade/draft to look more for needs, but the focus should be best available at our 1st selection, whilst for example Humphrey looks to have some of our needs, he also has some question marks in some areas.I am perplexed at the number of posters spruiking Busslinger or even Hayes at our pick. Why commit our first pick on a admittedly a superb interceptor, who may make it as a genuine key?
We need forward connection, two way run, possibly x-factor forward types, and have a deeper list need for a developing key forward in my opinion.
So what your saying is it could go either way [emoji854]Fun fact - Carlton have only ever had 2x picks at #10:

Had us and hope we take him at pick 62 adds to KPP depth…Any VFL watchers out there?
Thoughts on Ethan Phillips from Port Melb as a mature-age defender?
23yo, 197cm, intercept marking machine. Avgd almost 20 touches and 10 marks a match this year. Just won the VFL best young player award.
I have only seen highlights, but looks to do his best work loose and intercepting. Not sure about speed on lead and one-on-one. Maybe needs a couple of pre-seasons in the gym?
Looks like he could provide cheap cover for Weiters and Young and in case Marchbank's body does not hold up.
In general, I think mature-age defenders on rookie/min wages is one of the best value plays out there.
Could support that. Young enough to have upside and comes cheap. In favour of drafting and doesn’t have to be an 18 yo.Had us and hope we take him at pick 62 adds to KPP depth…
Not sure what he does for us that Durdin wouldn't already do. I'd actually prefer Durdin due to him being reasonable in a contest, not just floating around.Any VFL watchers out there?

Hayes is definitely not where I'd be thinking, because I think he'd change as a player while he finds 15-20 kgs on his frame.I am perplexed at the number of posters spruiking Busslinger or even Hayes at our pick. Apparently Hudson O'Keefe (as per the sheet at the game) broke his nose running into that pack in the second half and kept playing. Tough as nails if thats the case. We could hear it from the other endToddled down to Docklands (Spiderpants Stadium) for a look at the game yesterday.
Hayden O'Keefe - Good project ruck who'll take 4-5 years of development. Good pace without looking like he's lumbering around, solid overhead and reasonable kick. Copped some massive hits during this game, one in which you could literally hear the smack of contact around the entire ground, but he just shook them off and got on with it. 4th Round or Rookie.
Would allow us to take best available balanced mid or KPF or forward at 10 & 28 & Jones Pick…Could support that. Young enough to have upside and comes cheap. In favour of drafting and doesn’t have to be an 18 yo.
(Only after we get a project forward though)

IMO, should consider with our 2nd pick if available. His marking leap reminded me of Bosustow, who was a gun for us in the 80's.I thought Max Gruzewski looked terrific. Even if he disappeared a lot - who didn't of the key forwards/backs?
A definite swingman, huge leap and takes a heck of a mark - Buzz like!
Kicks straight too.

It'll be pick 11 after Ashcroft is matched. But, yes. This will be our last top 10 pick for a long time we need to make it count.
